You use Firefox, no need for the popup blocker. Plus IE 6 has one built in with SP2.

Have you considered getting Thunderbird for your email client? Blocks spam and more so you can get rid of that Spamihilator.

  2. cheers i have already got that anti malware package, and i found a program to customize firefox cant remember what it is. just does all the pipelining stuff and things like that

also what are wrong with these...

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinPatrol] "C:\PROGRA~1\BILLPS~1\WINPAT~1\WinPatrol.exe"

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvCplDaemon] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup

WinPatrol is junk, poorly put together and more. I looked at it a while back and it doesn't do half that it advertises.

NvCplDaemon isn't needed to game or anything, so you can remove it.

  3. Microsoft has alerted consumers that Netscape's latest browser appears to break the XML rendering capabilities in Microsoft Internet Explorer. Dave Massy, a senior program manager for IE, warned users in a blog posting that after installing Netscape 8, IE will render XML files as a blank page, including XML files that have an XSLT transformation.

Microsoft did not make clear what versions of IE were affected, but a user of the DeveloperDex forum said he experienced the problem on version 6 of IE, which had been patched with Windows Service Pack 2. Microsoft said it is investigating the problem and will work with Netscape to resolve it. It advised a "workaround" of uninstalling Netscape 8 and editing the registry settings.

One reader of the blog said the rendering problem could be a problem with IE, rather than Netscape. He suggested that such a feature could be useful for Microsoft as it would deter users considering a migration from IE to Netscape.

But another reader, Chris Beach, came to Microsoft's defense. "Cue endless conspiracy theories about Microsoft's 'dirty tactics.' Honestly, the rubbish you (Microsoft) have to put up with...my heart goes out to you guys. Keep up the good work with IE 7," he said.

This issue could be another blow to Netscape, which released Netscape 8 only two weeks ago. Just a day after launching Netscape 8 and touting the browser's security features, the company released an update to fix several serious flaws.

We?ve just confirmed an issue that has started to be reported on newsgroups and forums that after installing Netscape 8 the XML rendering capabilities of Internet Explorer no longer work. That means that if you navigate in IE to an XML file such as an RSS feed http://msdn.microsoft.com/xml/rss.xml or an XML file with an XSLT transformation applied then rather than seeing the data you are presented with a blank page.

We currently have the following work around for people that are hitting this issue:

    - Uninstall Netscape 8

    - START->RUN

    - Type: regedit

    - Hit ENTER

    Navigate to the following:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Plugins\Extension

Highlight and right-click the node titled "xml" and select delete.

    Restart Internet Explorer

Unfortunately if Netscape 8 remains installed then the registry key is continually rewritten so this is an essential step if you are to be able to view XML content in IE. We are currently continuing our investigation and are looking forward to working with Netscape to resolve this issue.

Seems to me Netscape is still a pretty bad browser. At least Firefox works well! :D

  4. I have been looking for a good reg cleaner and am new to CCleaner.  How often do you suggest running CCleaner?  I noticed that I clicked analyze and it found and cleaned 16 MB of crap.  Then I surfed the internet for like 15 minutes and scanned again and it was already back up to 12 MB.  So how useful is this program if all those unwanted files build back up so quickly?

Also, are there any things I should consider NOT analyzing and cleaning?  I really would like to save my passwords and autoform entries, but is that safe?

I run right before I defrag usually.

  5. Go to your firefox program folder and look for a folder called search plugins deleate the ones you dont want.

I believe you can put the ones you want into a folder within the searchplugin's folder. That way when you do a new install, you can delete everything but the folder. ;)

  6. All of these are totally optional.

Firefox is a highly recommended browser. My website has tweaks for it and an Anti-Malware package as well.

Since you have Firefox, I suppose you use it more than IE. Spyware Blaster is the best companion for these browsers.

You can uninstall the LeechGet, Clocx and Yahoo Companion. Download accelerators don't work and often are loaded with malware.

  7. I use CCleaner like any other average user, I "run cleaner" in

all three tabs and backup the issue deletes.  Perhaps that is the

problem, since this newer version does more than my year

old version used to do..  Obviously something important to Net2phone

is being deleted that the old version did not remove, in time I will

    figure it out.

Running my new copy of CCleaner in the analyze mode,  the only

references I see in the logs to Net2phone are some stored cookies.

The removal of which you wouldn't think would prevent a program

from opening.  I also notice this newer version has a check offs for

"old prefetch data' and "reg edit", which my old version did not have

    and maybe a clue...

who knows, I just keep reinstalling Net2phone after CCleaner

    disables it....

    Thanks for your consideration!

Try running it without doing the Issues tab. See if it makes any difference.

  8. I believe the use something called "Auto-Pruning" (at least that's what my forums call it) where after a preset amount of time the posts are deleted, but the number of posts remains.

  9. Actually, ignore that setup, I spoke to some people and they helped me pick out better parts...Here is the new setup, with water cooled case :D!

I still need to calculate how much it will run me...But its a good setup...Can anyone recommend a good sound card, also should I upgrade to a 500watt PSU? Since I'm adding some pci stuff, (e.g TV tuner, and sound card..).

Not much information on the motherboard.. I wonder what Dj would have to say about this.

  10. I have deleted unused file extensions many times and its always worked great. So I think it is very safe.

And as gunner mentioned, you can always do a backup of the registry first if you wish or have doubts.

Andavari and DjLizard, hehe that is silly.

Not silly, it's fact. DjLizard is definitely the best expert on computers and technology I've ever known.
