I'm also unsure how wise it is to remove the windows help
I agree, definitely should not be added IMO (plus that folder also contains Nvidia help files here)

[Audacity Autosave*] LangSecRef=3023 Detect=HKCU\Software\Audacity Default=False FileKey1=%AppData%\Audacity\AutoSave|*.autosave
new ^^
Does that need an entry, it deletes on closing the program doesn't it (mine's empty), and you wouldn't want to delete it whilst working on a project?
-
@JDPower: Mine is not located in PC Starters, its just Performance Maintainer.
@Winapp2: No. There are txt files and .ini files that shouldn't be removed. Those 3 directories don't have any of those. In case your wondering, the backup files are in .xml document format, not in any .reg format or anything.
I installed it to test and that's where it installed by default, that was all I was saying. And making only those changes the entry worked so there's nothing wrong with the rest of the entry and it should work if those are you directory paths.

New:
[Performance Maintainer*]
LangSecRef=3024
DetectFile=%ProgramFiles%\Performance Maintainer
Default=False
FileKey1=%ProgramFiles%\Performance Maintainer\Backups|*.*|RECURSE
FileKey2=%ProgramFiles%\Performance Maintainer\log|*.*|RECURSE
FileKey3=%ProgramFiles%\Performance Maintainer\Logs|*.*|RECURSE
I can't get this one to work on my system. I need someones help, again.
I don't see anything syntactically wrong with this at first glance, is the path correct?
The path appears to be wrong, default install path would make the entry the following:
[Performance Maintainer*] LangSecRef=3024 DetectFile=%ProgramFiles%\PC Starters\Performance Maintainer Default=False FileKey1=%ProgramFiles%\PC Starters\Performance Maintainer\Backups|*.*|RECURSE FileKey2=%ProgramFiles%\PC Starters\Performance Maintainer\log|*.*|RECURSE FileKey3=%ProgramFiles%\PC Starters\Performance Maintainer\Logs|*.*|RECURSE
Of course filekey1 shouldn't be included as we don't delete cleaner program backups do we

FWIW Australis is now in BETA and HOLLY (the australis free builds) have been discontinued. Australis is currently on track for release with Firefox 29
What's the betting it gets held back for the nice round number of 30

Updated the Mozilla Firefox 'Adblock Backups' cleaner since Adblock Plus has started creating a new naming structure for some backups which I noticed within the last week such as: patterns-1.iniI've tested it and it will cover all of the backups it creates; patterns-#.ini, patterns-backup.ini, etc.Before update:FileKey1=%AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\*\adblock*|patterns-backup*.iniAfter update:FileKey1=%AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\*\adblock*|patterns-*.ini
[Adblock Backups*] LangSecRef=3026 SpecialDetect=DET_MOZILLA Default=False FileKey1=%AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\*\adblock*|patterns-*.ini
I'm hoping that patterns-1.ini was indeed a true backup because it hadn't updated in a long time on my system which had me thinking it was just another backup copy.
Not present on mine, only the patterns-backup files and patterns.ini, no patterns-1 etc

Big thumbs up for posting the changelog as a reply here, saves seeing an "updated" message, then clicking back to page one, then clicking on changelog

Good news that you are fixed
Apparently you use the solution you used for when the Windows file system transaction log is corrupted. The Windows file system uses the transaction log to recover system transactions when a file error occurs.
By putting ''setautoreset true'' the Transaction Resource Manager cleans the transactional metadata on the next mount, by default.
Cool, thanks for the info

SUCCESS
There was another bunch of updates today and all but the malicious software removal tool failed. They gave the same error I was getting previously, but ALSO a second error code - 80071A91. Searching for solutions to that second error code found the following suggested fix (posting for anyone that stumbles across this whilst searching) which WORKED and was able to successfully install all todays updates AND the original troublesome updateReset the File System Resource Manager if you receive error 0x80071A91 1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as administrator. 2. In the Command Prompt window you will need to type the following, and press ENTER: fsutil resource setautoreset true C:\ 3. Note: You will need to replace the C:\ with the drive letter that Windows is installed on. 4. Restart your computer, and then attempt to install the failed update(s).
Would be curious to know what the above actually fixes, and how it got messed up in the first place, but guessing it'll be one of those wonders of Windows that defy logical explanation

It may be easier to add a ;voldemort user in need of help? Visit the Ministry of Magic: line to the top section
Yeah that'd work too
-
There's a link to this thread at the top of winapp2.ini, so it's possible people who download the file with voldemort and then seek assistance follow that link in lieu of going back to the ministry of magic
So it would be an easy fix then to stop those users coming here - either they remove the link address when using it, or you can remove it, after all most users who have it from here got it from this thread so probably know exactly where to come.
Edit: Actually, having just read the first section of winapp2 for the first time, I didn't realise "they who shall not be named" were named in the file, let alone so prominently. So we can host, and promote download of, a file with 'their' website, Twitter, Facebook, donate links, yet we can't mention the website on the forum thread all that is hosted? What, briefly, are the licensing issues Nergal mentioned? (feel free to pm me if stating that is also too sensitive to post)
-
If there are other links it's just cause they were missed by moderation staff, not for lack of consistency. The developers are (currently) tolerant of the existence of enhancing product but have ask it not be mentioned, promoted or aided openly on the forum as it slightly fractures the program's license. On a personal note, it is unwise to argue with moderation especially when said moderator is working on a 15 total-sleep-hour week (insert stupid winky face here)
No one's arguing (seriously), so personal note not necessary.
If that's the rule though it may be an idea for a mod to do a forum search for the program at some point and remove links to it as that's what I did to make sure I was ok to link to it's site. Perhaps a forum sticky could be made at some point stating that it can't be discussed and why (I presumed it was the same reason as why we don't discuss or help with rival cleaners, was totally unaware of licensing issues)
-
(MODERATOR EDIT: LINKING TO SITE ALSO NOT SUPPORTED, IF USER HAS IT, THEY KNOW WHERE TO GO).
You wanna have some consistency then as there are several posts suggesting, and linking to, the CCEnhancer site here previously (that's where I got the link from ). And they clearly don't know where to go or they wouldn't keep turning up here, so I don't see any problem pointing them in the right direction, after all the purpose of this forum is to help people isn't it

How to make CCleaner start after downloading new winapi.ini with CCEnhancer-3.9 ?
I'm sure a very old version i used to have ,would start ccleaner after the new winapi.ini had downloaded.
All i can see in the options is to start ccleaner silently,but i want ccleaner to start normally and automatically after the new winapi.ini has finished downloading.
I always have to physically click on ccleaner.exe to start it and that way doesn't seem to load the CCEnhancer ini entries.
This started happening after i updated to the 3 versions of CCEnhancer (a while ago now),and i've never been able to get that function back,where ccleaner just opens up after running CCEnhancer.
I'm sure it used to work with the old v2 of CCEnhancer.
p.s..i tried editing portable location,but it doesn't make any difference.
it seems to happen on installed and portable versions of ccleaner.
EDIT::it's the same on win7 and win xp.
CCEnhancer is not a supported Piriform product so questions about it won't/can't be answered here I'm afraid, try the CCEnhancer site
(MODERATOR EDIT: LINKING TO SITE ALSO NOT SUPPORTED, IF USER HAS IT, THEY KNOW WHERE TO GO).

You aren't the only on having an issue with that update JD.
By the way what did the error code say as the reason for the fail besides giving you the error code?
If you look here there are two listings of your error code plus the different messages and how to fix.
Thanks Hazel. He seems to be having a slightly different problem as his won't download, mine downloads fine but refuses to install (shows how much use those error codes are don't it!). And it gives no more information other than saying installation failed and that error code (the "get help with this error" link doesn't even take you to the right error code help page)
Oh and having not googled for a few days I tried googling the error code and update number - only got my own post

There is a Microsoft .NET Framework Repair Tool, but I have no idea if Microsoft are still maintaining it.
Already suggested, and tried, but thanks for the suggestion.
-
Same problem here, I've tried just about every solution I could find but nothing works.
Thanks, at least I know it's not JUST me then.
-
JD I forget to get back to you on this one.
I installed that update on my Win7 64 bit machine and it went in no bother.
Sorry
Ok, thanks
-
It's here, a last resort though but it did work for me when I was having update issues caused by .NET Framework:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/08/28/8904493.aspx
Yup, as said, I tried that. I'm just glad it's not a security update or something more important as it seems the update is just gonna have to stay uninstalled
-
Try this: Download "Windows Repair" and run it.
There's also a ".Net removal tool" available but I haven't got a clue where to find it. Find it and re-install .net. Or if you don't like .Net then don't re-install it.
Thanks for the suggestion, didn't work. And as already said, used the .net removal tool and tried installing the update without .net installed and after reinstalling. I think the .net think might be a red herring but it seems no one else is having a problem with this update
-
I used that .net tool Hazel, it was one of the suggested fixes on the MS site, and did the last suggested step in the MS page of removing all versions of .net and reinstalling, then trying to install the update, didn't work (even tried installing the update with .net removed, just on the off chance it might work)

Am I the only one that can't install todays Windows update - kb2923545? It's supposed to be a fix for potential update errors yet, ironically, I keep getting an error when trying to install (Win Update gives an 80070643 error code).
Have followed all the suggestions MS gives for that error code HERE, and downloaded the hotfix to install manually, but still no go.
Is it just me? And anyone any other suggestions? -
Are those backups safe to remove?
Registry backups in a .reg file.
That'll be a no then.
