  1. I wonder what the specifications are. Well it's probably better than my old Win98 PC which is pathetically slow compared to my WinXP PC. This deal may actually be worth checking out just for a somewhat "good" second PC for backup purposes.

The stats are here, funny how I didn't notice the link the first time when I read the article.

  2. You can also create a boot log using the built into Windows tool called msconfig, although what useful information it will create for an end-user I don't know.

    1. Here's how:
    2. Click Start->Run->Type in: msconfig
    3. Go to the tab BOOT.INI
    4. Select /BOOTLOG
    5. Click Apply, then restart Windows.
The boot log should be located in C:\Windows\ntbtlog.txt

If you don't want a boot log created at each startup you have to disable it in msconfig. Note: If CCleaner is set to automatically clean on Window startup and if you have it configured to delete Windows logs it will remove the boot log.

Edit: Updated the msconfig information since I had never used it before.

  3. i'm talking about when you open the folder and set it so that it views as thumbnails.

When you enter a folder and select Thumbnails view it doesn't show the icons when there's .ico files, and maybe image files too?

That sounds like an issue in the Windows registry - where exactly I don't have the slightest ideal but it does sound like you've got some digging to do in order to correct it.

That's good info to know, which I didn't know.

  4. Whoever the f'n weirdo is that's trying to sell that must know that some sicko is willing to pay $5,100 for s**t. Actually for $5,100 there's allot of other s**t I'd spend the money on; new Wide-Screen T.V., new Home Theatre, Super Charger for the car, a PS3 and a bunch of games when it's released, etc.

  5. Anyone else watch the MTV awards? I watched it because I heard axl was going to do an interview(he was on for about 15sec.) I can't believe the shambles music is in right now. Rock is dead(all the bands look like freaks) and rap is no better. Of course this is MTV I'm talking about which has never been the forefront of quality music but now is even worse then ever.

Looks like I don't need to attempt to watch a replay then since when I flipped to the channel when I woke up was all the time Axl got.

Rock will never be dead, it does however matter where you look for music. For instance those into metal would get the Century Media catalog which is almost as thick as my telephone book, it has Century Media label artists as well as some smaller unheard of by the masses record labels, there's probably a Rock equivalent out there somewhere.

MTV is nothing more than a reality show/soap opera channel now and has been for many years. I don't expect things to get any better with it, only worse. And they should remove the M from MTV and come up with a different tagline because it's no longer "Music" Television.

  6. I have registered for five AOL av codes using my own yahoo account which I have used on friends and neighbours computers.

Nothing untoward has happened as yet.

Any eula is rendered null and void by my own eula.

Being - "Any software on my pc will be used the way that suits me" :)

 Until they send you 100 emails stating you must uninstall all AOL software. :P

  7. *Windows Scripting Host ;)

Yeah I almost wrote it as that, however after viewing the download site MS has changed the name of it because Windows Scripting Host is "supposedly" only a sub-component of the now Windows Script. Anyways regardless of what MS name it we know what it is.

  8. so what you're saying is that you use Windows Media Player 10. allrighty then; i got it.

Actually I rarely use it, the FhG Pro encoder if taken from the setup file can be used outside of WMP, it's more of one of those quirky ideals of I think I'll conduct a listening test. I however never rip anything with it because EAC is king!

  9. I just went through a problem with .ico files not being shown.

Basically I just went through the registry until I found

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\icofile

and set the default icon to: %1

Rather this is the same on your system I don't know, and would suggest you manually change it in RegEdit:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\icofile\DefaultIcon]@="%1"

Then in Tweak UI click Repair->Rebuild Icons

"Maybe this is what you need" at http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm then download #4 on the left called "Repairs the Icon View"

  10. why use the Fraunhofer MP3 Encoder? LAME ,i believe, is better.

Of course LAME is better, well lame.exe is anyways

Just wanted a newer Windows MP3 Codec, that's all, and the one in WMP 11 Beta fixes an old quality bug from the FhG encoder that WMP 10 has, e.g.; J-Stereo ("Joint Stereo") not being used at certain bitrates with the High Quality switch enabled. Although to use it, it has to be renamed to l3codeca.acm and registered with regsvr32.

  11. The interface is not too bad though.

 And I thought it looked aweful.

Although the WMP Pro encoder did sound good at lower bitrates when I did some encodes with it, and I **cough, cough** grabbed the Fraunhofer Pro MP3 encoder from the installer to use outside fo WMP.

WMP 11 Beta is just too dark/black for me and I couldn't stand it when I tried it out. I also didn't like the fact that they changed so much that parts of it had to be re-learnt all over again, and not being a fan of previous versions like 9 and 10 I sure as hell wasn't going to take the time to figure out where everything was. I disliked it so much I'll never update to WMP 11 when it's final, the same goes for Vista to hell with it as well.

  12. Tried cancel your AOL account?

Try that sometime, just try. I dare ya!

I did that years ago via the telephone and the customer support rep kept trying to sell it to me over and over of why I didn't want to cancel - until I became an a**hole on the phone and only then did he comply. At least I don't get those damned free unsolicated AOL CDs in the mailbox anymore which I used to use for coasters that I'd place a glass of water on.

  13. It's easy for a PC manufacturer to have older/out-dated versions of allot stuff on the PC, hence the reason to update many things as soon as you start using your new PC.

The MS VB Runtime files dated on Microsoft's download site from 2004 work fine with CCleaner. And since they're required by so many freeware applications and commercial applications it never hurts to keep them up-to-date.

  14. Search for: C:\Windows\System32\MSVBVM60.DLL

Version should be at least: 6.0.97.82

    ----------

Full list of minimum versions that should be installed:

    FILENAME: | VERSION: | SIZE: | DATE:----------------------------------------------------------------------------------comcat.dll | 4.71.1460.1 | 21.7 KB (22,288 bytes)	| May 08, 2002----------------------------------------------------------------------------------msvbvm60.dll	| 6.0.97.82 | 1.32 MB (1,386,496 bytes) | Feb 23, 2004----------------------------------------------------------------------------------oleaut32.dll	| 2.40.4275.1 | 584 KB (598,288 bytes)	| April 12, 2000----------------------------------------------------------------------------------olepro32.dll	| 5.0.4275.1	| 160 KB (164,112 bytes)	| May 08, 2002----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  15. There's also rumors going around that soon some PC makers will be offering coupons for free upgrades to Vista if you buy a PC before it's released. They don't say which version the upgrade will be, however.

Vista E.C.E. which stands for Vista Extra Crappy Edition.

Rather buy handcuffs than Vista. ;)

They're both designed to restrict me, but the handcuffs are cheaper.

    :lol::lol::lol: ROFLMAO :lol::lol::lol:

  16. aols cheap.

Since when? They've always been overpriced if you ask me, and for what shi**y software.

Don't get me started on their ISP software I remember a long time ago when just installing a certain version of it had people formatting hard disks left and right, and I was one of those people.
