  1. You can try to spin or justify your decisions like McDonald Trump would do, that's obviously your choice given it's your software but it's going backwards and counter-intuitive not to allow users the freedom and choice to decide from themselves before it is installed. I think your logic/rationale/thinking is backwards. Let the user decide to update WHEN they want, IF they want. CCLEANER is NOT anti-virus software. We need to be clear on that. Having a background updater or process running in the background is pure nonsense on a "junk utility" application.
  2. Yup. Reminds of the crap they pulled two years ago and their excuse was they thought there were "helping" us. Here' s my thread on the topic. Let's hope they don't get it deleted, if it is below is the content DEJA VU? Wow. Reading the release notes ー not impressed, reminds me of how a couple of years ago Pirform did the unthinkable and made SYSTEM MONITORING permanent and couldn't be disabled. Now, we have the current issues where updates are applied automatically on the free version. The version info contains clickbait phrases like "This version comes jam-packed full of exciting improvements for all our users!"Then it's implied you can review and update your preferences. And they go on to say OPTIONS have been simplified. Granted, the OPTIONS was always a PIA, but after that incident from two years ago coupled with how they're forcing themselves onto the users to do "automatic" this or that plus the bugs posted so far causes me to remain highly skeptical. The response provided doesn't give me any confidence either. My v5.73.8130 (26 Oct 2020) will be my last version I'll update in a while. Besides, if it ain't broken, I'm not going to update. I shall monitor the forums and comments here, but I won't hold my breath for a positive outcome.

  4. Come on folks. The answer is simple, it's absolute. It's either yes or no. Is it so hard to answer?
  5. I experienced this on my laptop. I even restored the factory image and the drive no longer has the speeds it once did. I also experienced the same on my desktop on one my other drives as well. Perhaps it's a coincidence?
  6. It looks like I may have worded my question poorly. What I meant was does three pass wiping cause the drive to slow down after completion.
  7. I noticed a considerable slow down in speed using defraggler benchmarks. Is this normal with wiping free space and if so, why does this happen?
  8. This time it's in quasi-stealth mode. If you check your process explorer, you will see several CCLEANER64.exe files despite not having active monitoring or scheduling enabled.
  9. I'm staying with 5.44.6575 probably until 2019. I just don't trust Piriform.
  10. Last known good non invasive version 5.44.6577 is here: https://filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/
  11. The best and only solution aside from a full uninstall is using the last known good version: https://filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/ EDIT: 5.45 has been pulled and now you can download the previous version normally.
  12. You have every reason to be cynical. Facebook got away with it, and for the most part, most people are fine with their invasion of privacy....until it adversely affects them. Eventually, government will step in, but that likely won't be in North America for a few more decades.
  13. Glad this works for you, but it doesn't help those who don't know how to create a firewall rule with your script.
  14. CCleaner could've easily posted the previous version as a download for those wanting it. One would have to very naive or a T rump supporter not to believe they have something up their sleeves.
  15. OMG. The post sounds like it was written by bots or lawyers not actual people. You're thought and analytical processes are deficient. Bye bye Ccleaner. You lost my trust.
  16. Too little too late. The trust factor is gone. Whomever (manager) agreed to implement such a feature should be fired.
  17. I agree, this is BS. I am now using an old version. The automatic and unable to disable the continuous monitoring is nothing less than intrusive and malicious. This was such a great product until the last update.
  18. Sometimes the scan itself (stage 1 to 3) can take a very long, long time. It would be prudent to have the ability to pause and save the scan process. While I understand their likely is a reason (there is a reason for everything, right?) not many average folk like to keep their computers running 24/7 and I found the scanning can slow down your PC as well. Heck, even cancelling a scan can take a while unless you use the task manager to kill the application.
  19. For whatever reason, only on my desktop running Windows 7 x64, CCleaner leaves a few cookies which I don't use. The most baffled is the whatsapp cookie (web.whatsapp.com) where I only used it once but it keeps coming back. Has anyone else experienced this issue?
  20. I dunno why this has been happening but it never was the case before. Perhaps it was a Windows update, perhaps a CCleaner update? In any event, it takes significantly and noticeably longer to clean the Windows Log directly these days. Running Windows Chkdsk and Smart check for the the HD shows no issues. There's ample of storage space as well: 700 GB/1000 GB.
  21. I have the same problem of late. I have been using CCleaner ever since it came out a long time ago. At first, it started suddenly with taking a long time to clean my WINDOWS LOG files/folder, then just today it progressed to my browsers cache (IE, Chrome, Opera, etc). I am running Win 7 X64. No issues reported with disk diagnostic software.
  22. There is an option to move files to the end of the drive during the defrag process (it doesn' work very well mind you), so it only makes sense to have an option to move particular files to the beginning of the drive. I know Norton had this (when I had a subscription with them many years ago).
