  2. I'm playing on Yahoo Sports and they offered one to run on the bottom of the screen. -------------- And how about Mexico shutting out France! And good for Greece winning, the African nation teams not doing too well, I'm surprised....pressure to win?
  3. Any 2010 World Cup gurus out there? I got into my first ever WC Soccer Fantasy Tournaments this year, not doing too bad, I'm 5-3, 11 points....woulda' been 6-2 if it weren't for the "generous" UK goalie vs the USA. But I'm tied for 1st out of 10 so far -and- I love competition!

Very good ishan, I see you "get it"! And all of us, get off the computer and do something else once in a while.... ....in fact I'm going out on the deck and watch a game on TV and have a few good cigars.
  5. Wow, over 50,000 views and counting.

I had zero computers in my undergrad, major Ind. Mgt, minor Econ When I went for my MBA in 1979 I needed one prereq, I needed a computer class, I had to take FORTRAN IV, you know that card punching, I hated it! Buying huge stacks of cards, sitting there punching them out one card at a time, feeding them in, if you had even ONE bad card it kicked out your project. Sure makes today's computers really easy to use!
  7. OMG, this is, well different? .....For an initial layout of 2,000 or 4,000 pounds, the prospective "bondholders" can expect an annual yield of 6.72 percent or 7.29 percent respectively on the three-year bonds based on the value of the boxes of confectionery..... BUT a not bad and tasty ROI.
  8. Well a change of pace...... It's only rock 'n' roll, but I like it -- by the Rolling Stones If everyone demanded peace instead of another television set, then there'd be peace. -- John Lennon Mick Jagger is the perfect rock star. There's nobody more perfect than Jagger. He's rude, he's ugly-attractive, he's brilliant. The Rolling Stones are the perfect rock group -- they don't give a ****. -- Elton John Rock is so much fun. That's what it's all about -- filling up the chest cavities and empty kneecaps and elbows. -- Jim Hendrix Ours is the folk music of the technological age. -- Jimmy Page

Girls, oh yeah. Plus another thing, 50 years ago they invented "the pill", just in time for "My Generation", The Who, Rolling Stones, Beatles, Hendrix, it was fun. (plus no HIV and all that stuff to worry about) I had a few motorcycles, some screamin' cars I wouldn't trade it for all the gigabytes in the whole world. But hey, every generation has it's music, trends, fads enjoy it all while you can.

Well since I graduated high school in 1968 B.C. (Before Computers) undergrad in 1975 B.C.,even grad school in 1985 B.95 (well 10 years before W95) I can tell you..... .....it was GREAT!! We had a ball. We actually PLAYED baseball, football, basketball (not on a little screen). We actually did things together not virtually, went to concerts, ballgames (without interuptions galore), peace, love, rock and roll, Woodstock, real fast cars -and- plenty of cheap gas...it was really nice. Went places without annoying texters, cell phones going off everywhere, stuffed in boxes, spam, viruses. .....but I still do love my computer.
  11. Sorry to hear about your loss LuLu, hang in there and take it one day at a time. It will get a bit better over time, you'll always have the great memories. I lost my dad in 2001 and a brother in 2008, always remembered. Take care....Michael "mjp"
  12. Yeah, that about sums it up.
  13. Hey Mudd, getting old is not for sissies, lol. Enjoy everything you can (or want to)! mjp
  14. Thanks, he was quite a guy, a really nice hard working, kind caring person, like a lot of WWII vets they just did their jobs and came home rarely talking about it. My father-in-law was also a very similar guy who also was highly decorated master seargent who went through a bunch of real hell holes in the Pacific....very similar to HBO's "The Pacific" which is running now and very realistic. A great "Thought of the Day", thank Goodness for men like them.
  15. 'Any ship can be a minesweeper. Once.' - Naval Ops Manual - That's a good thought. My dad started out on a minesweeper at the beginning of WWII, a real "interesting" job during the invasions in N. Africa and Italy. Before the troops in the landing craft, the bigger ships, the brass come wading ashore with all the newsreels running someone had to go out and cut and destroy all those mines....in a small wooden ship (so you wouldn't detonate the magnetic mines) with a lot of horsepower and a bunch of .50 cal machine guns to blow up the mines when they came up to the surface. They had long cables with steel fins to flare out and cut the mine cables, when they popped up you got on the .50 cals and fired away. All this while you were dodging German fighters trying to strafe your ship. Some way to become decorated for bravery! But he did move up the ranks becoming a CPO on the battleship New Jersey in the WestPac.....which led him to be called back up to the Korean War.
  16. ~A few thoughts about....money~ (hey, I'm an MBA type guy) Robert Frost A bank is a place where they lend you an umbrella in fair weather and ask for it back when it begins to rain. Samuel Butler Friendship is like money, easier made than kept. Norman Vincent Peale Empty pockets never held anyone back. Only empty heads and empty hearts can do that. Chester L. Karrass In business, you don't get what you deserve, you get what you negotiate.
  17. Since I'm getting ready to watch favored DUKE play big underdog BUTLER for the NCAA title, a few basketball quotes, pro and con the game: The invention of basketball was not an accident. It was developed to meet a need. Those boys simply would not play "Drop the Handkerchief." ~James Naismith This is the second most exciting indoor sport, and the other one shouldn't have spectators. ~D. Vertleib Any American boy can be a basketball star if he grows up, up, up. ~Bill Vaughn If the NBA were on channel 5 and a bunch of frogs making love was on channel 4, I'd watch the frogs even if they were coming in fuzzy. ~Bobby Knight I haven't been able to slam-dunk the basketball for the past five years. Or, for the thirty-eight years before that, either. ~Dave Barry I liked the choreography, but I didn't care for the costumes. ~Tommy Tune, on why he never considered playing basketball What is so fascinating about sitting around watching a bunch of pituitary cases stuff a ball through a hoop? ~Woody Allen, Annie Hall The idea is not to block every shot. The idea is to make your opponent believe that you might block every shot. ~Bill Russell (ONE OF MY FAVORITE ALL TIME PLAYERS)
  18. Peace. (and then money, "you've just won", love and hey let's not forget "friends" )
  19. That's what my wife does on our oven clock with the cracked button, just drives me nuts for a few months. BUT it's OK now.
  20. Well since it's Spring here's a few thoughts about Spring cleaning......and men. I wonder if women think this way about us? Do men just play dumb when it comes to cleaning? Is this an obvious attempt to avoid any sort of housework? Maybe it may have something to do with a testosterone brain block or something. Well..... Broom (brum) - a long handled brush used for sweeping (also doubles as a mode of transportation for your mother) Vacuum (vak' u em) - much like the leaf blower except it sucks in, instead of blowing out. Don't let this alarm you. It isn't broken and doesn't need more torque, speed, RAM or whatever it is you did to the dishwasher. Dust pan (DUH) - Contrary to popular belief, this is where you sweep the dirt, not under the hallway area rug. Dust Cloth (dust kloth) - A cloth designated for removing tiny particles of dirt from every flat surface of the house. Hint: look for your old "lucky shirt". Bucket (buk' it)- Cylindric container used for holding soapy water when mopping the floor. Also known as your mid-evil knight helmet when you're playing with our seven-year-old Mop - (mop) a bundle of coarse yarn, rags or cloth fastened at the end of a stick. You'll remember this as your dance partner at the New Year's Eve party last year. Toilet Brush (toi' lit brush) - Used for scrubbing the inside of the toilet bowl. I don't care what this looks like, you may NOT use my shower luffa again! Oven Cleaner (uv' en Klen' er) - No, not the teenager. This is an actually product that you buy, spray in the oven and wipe out two hours later. You won't need your welder's mask for this task, but if it makes you feel more dangerous, go ahead. Sponge (spunj) - used to gently wash away food particles from dinnerware. It won't be necessary to use your 300psi Power wash set. That was given to you in hopes of cleaning the EXTERIOR of the house (hint hint). Squeegee (skwe' je) - Same principle as washing the car windshield, and yes, real men DO squeegee! Final Note: While Duct tape may be a wonderful plumbers aid, it's really not the best solution for keeping the bathroom towels in place, and Jamie's teacher is still asking why his homework was stuck to his forehead last week. For these reasons, I have hidden the duct tape and distributed your picture to the local hardware stores. Don't make me call Duct Tape Anonymous again.

    Laptop question

The guys look right on with #1 and 2, if you're still having problems with #3 try this: (I'm on Vista now but if I remember my old, and beloved XP it should be similar) Go to your Control Panel, type mouse or pointer in the search box (the easy way to look for anything CP related) Go over and reset your mouse settings, not a bad idea even if you got it working already to get a nice customized feel and look you like. I always try simple first....amazingly it most often works! Good luck...mjp
  22. Funny stuff. (with a few grains of truth) Gee, no cell phones, internet, WiFi, Blackberrys, iPhones, 3G, 4G, email, electronic money transfers, AAAAAHHHHH.... What would we do, what would we call it? .....how about the fun, swingin' 1960s

    Free DVD ripper?

Hey surfer girl, how've you been? When I'm looking for any programs, downloads I like to go to this site: http://filehippo.com/ Check it out, it's great! mjp (and I just recently watched the T.A.M.I. concert on PBS, loads of the 1960s oldies like the Beach Boys, "Little Surfer Girl" and others plus some great early Rolling Stones and a dozen other goodies)
  24. I dream of a better tomorrow... where chickens can cross roads and not have their motives questioned ********************** Old aunts used to come up to me at weddings, poke me in the ribs and cackle, telling me, "You're next." They stopped after I started doing the same thing to them at funerals. ********************* I wanted to become an atheist but I gave it up. They have no holidays. - Henny Youngman
  25. Any birthdays coming up? We can't let this old thread sit too long.
