  1. davy, this is something that annoys me as well and can only be displayed when you begin to type something into the Address field in IE and all previous typed entries appear as an aid to help you in selecting old entries.

I just ignore the advice and just keep typing the URL I want.

If it annoys you, just turn it off like tnfarmer did. ;)

  2. I've tried Microsoft and the file appears to be corrupt.

I've also tried Download.com but that appears to be corrupt as well.

If you are saying they appear to be corrupt because the installation fails, maybe this is the reason.

This is only recommended if the installation fails.

Although disabling your antivirus software is not usually recommended, some antivirus software prevents certain system files from being changed. This may cause the Windows XP SP3 installation to fail. To make sure that you can successfully install Windows XP SP3, temporarily disable your antivirus software including any antispyware and third-party firewall programs.
  3. What tool bars are you using ? Google? Yahoo?

Do these tools or gadgets plug in suggested addresses ?

Could this be where they're coming from?

Toolbars save information like history, autofill, bookmarks.

Even if you do use a toolbar, I can't see it effecting the IE address bar.

  4. I didn't think you had anything to hide. ;) We all have sensitive data that needs to be gone.

Yes, this is a nice place with smart and fun people. :D

I'm glad you feel like coming back!

  5. Here's a post that explains what the difference is.

    Gutman: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gutmann_method

It sounds logical that the more you overwrite, the less of a chance there is to recover some data.

I personally think 35 passes is overkill. A simple overwrite is sufficient.

Overwriting once should stop regular forensic examinations. TLA agencies can examine drives with electron microscopes but unless its a case of national security, an individual would get a regular old forensic examination.

When your done with your hard drive you could do this: :lol:http://driveslag.eecue.com/

  6. CCleaner does its job cleaning Recently Typed URLs in Internet Explorer 7.

The only addresses showing on the IE address bar when certain letters are entered are in my favorites.

If you have many favorites, you can right click on anyone and click sort by name.

Find the ones you don't want, right click and delete them.

You can turn off Auto Complete by doing the following.

Open IE click on Tools > Internet options > Content > Auto complete Settings

De-select Web addresses only, or all of them if you want then click OK.

    Good Luck!

  8. Hello afguy, and welcome to the forum.

I can't replicate this on my Vista Home Premium 32-bit System.

CCleaner has recently become fully compatible with 64-bit versions of XP and Vista.

The following questions come to mind.

    1) Have you run your Anti-Malware and Anti-Virus scans?

    2) Did you run any bat file or script that could have corrupted the registry?

    I Hope this helps! :)

  9. Hello Mildpigeon, and welcome to the forum.

Click on "yes" to save a backup of the changes to the registry. (Recommended)

The default location the .reg file (backup) will be saved is my documents.

Read the CCleaner guide to familiarize yourself with the program. See the link below.

Let us know if you have any more questions.

  10. Jamin4u.

Nice postit on your side bar. I find the clock and the calendar to be unnecessary. I found a better CPU monitor, which I can link you two if you want it.

    AJ

That would be great if you gave me the link AJ.

I was just filling the side bar with gadgets from MS.

I'm up for suggestions on side bar gadgets.

    Thanks B)
