  1. @hazelnut That's going to start some conversations and work arounds. Even if their intentions are good, they're clearly the benefactors. Thanks for the good information.
  2. @Andavari I've been using SumatraPDF Portable for about a week now myself. It's perfect as a reader including all you mentioned. My lady friend likes it too.
  3. @hazelnut It sounds nice and easy for updating. I'm willing to educated her on what she needs to do. Besides the default method you mentioned, I also use right clicking on a file > open with and choose app once or always. The latter has changed a little from Windows 10 to 11 but still works.
  4. @nukecad I just discovered a few days ago that browsers can open PDF'S. At this time, I just read PDF'S and don't do any creating or editing. Using a browser is definitely something to consider as a read only app. I have a friend that wants something other than using a browser which is what started my pursuit for an alternative. @hazelnut I used Windows sandbox to test out Sumatra and it does what its intended to do. I see that both versions have a check for updates under the help tab. What's the update process like? Meaning is it downloaded and updated or is it done manually by visiting the site and downloading then installing. My friend is not tech Savey at all, and this would matter to her.
  5. @hazelnut I did see Sumatra as a good alternative. It's good to know that someone I trust uses it. I don't have great confidence in using a disconnected or unsupported piece of software anymore. Trackers new software is much more than I need. Along with the limited maintenance period of updates, without registering it. Trackers viewer has been good to me, but I think I'll give Sumatra a try.
  6. I'm good here with this topic. Google is my friend.
  7. Is it safe to use the last unsupported version of PDF-XChange Viewer? If not, any suggestions for a free no hassles safe alternative. Thanks
  8. This worked as the files were hidden and protected system files. File explorer > view > options > view > show hidden files folders and drive > untick hide protected system files. I won't leave it like that since these are important files and the drive partition is visible. Thanks
  9. Hi Hazelnut, I think I found the solution but I need to get back home first. File explorer > view > options > view > untick hide protected system files.
  10. I don't use Bitlocker myself. I use 7zip to archive in zip archive format with AES-256 encryption method for tax docs etc... The rest I could care less about. After reading all the posts here, it doesn't look like for security reasons, I really needed to go through all the trouble and risk to resize the partition so MS could install the update. I have a question or two if you don't mind. In the recovery system, should I be able to see files if I allow view hidden items? Or is the space used just reserved? The only thing I see is what Andavari stated.
  11. Yes, the recovery partition is the last partition on the drive. The drive was not auto resized unless they switched it back to 546 MB after the update. I clone my primary drive using AOMEI once a month and they do clone the OEM recovery partition as far as I can tell.
  12. Hi everyone. I was about to resize the Recovery Partition of 546 MB on my fresh install of Windows 10 Pro. (Shout out to Hazel for the installation tutorial you posted for me) I was going to use AOMEI Partition Assistant to perform the task. There was an issue after resizing the Recovery Partition using the app as shown in the link below. Included was a fix for the issue. I decided to wait until AOMEI came out with a fix of their own. As you can see in the changelog, they did this on 03/14/2024. Here's the kicker. I checked for MS updates before and KB5034441 installed successfully without resizing. What's up with that and am I the only one. Issue after resizing Recovery Partition — AOMEI Forum (aomeitech.com) AOMEI Partition Assistant Changelog (diskpart.com)
  13. I could see and open .jpg and .png for example in Windows 10. But when I opened MS Photos, no thumbnails would show and I couldn't open them. I did search the internet and tried all recommended solutions with no success. I then remembered when I set up Windows 10, I went through privacy settings and under pictures disabled "allow access to pictures library on this device". After allowing access again, the thumbnails would show and open. I hope this information will help those with this issue.
  14. I can't think of anything else for now. Please wait for others to chime in here.
  15. Try uninstalling then download a fresh copy of CC for new install. CCleaner has debug capability with the support team. I believe this is reserved for Pro version only.
  16. Did you wait long enough for CC to finish cleaning before trying to click on interface? If you can then use the program I would temporarily disable, Options > Updates > Keep CCleaner updated automatically. It may be hanging trying to update. You could also try the portable version of CC. Please provide the download link you are using to ensure safe download.
  17. What version of CCleaner are you using? Older versions may cause issues. Any other firewall like windows running that could be making it hang? Try double clicking on the flashing tray icon while auto cleaning to see if the program responds.
  18. Hi everyone, have a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Peace and Love to all!
  19. A simple reset firewall to defaults fixed it.
  20. Anyone observe this after opening the updater?
  21. Did you see the CC program folder in program files before it "disappeared"? If you have an icon on desktop, where is it pointing to? Search the system for the CC program folder using a good file search program.
  22. If I put a copy of the .ini configuration file from my fully configured version of CC into a new installation folder of CC, will it remove registry entries and only use the .ini file. Or, would it be best to change the new installation of CC setting to use the .ini file only before dropping the .ini config file in the new CC folder.
  23. Connected to the internet, registry entries and host files sounds like remote access on/off switch.
  24. I think the corrupted .ini file only pertained to me (I hope). It went into the trash. Still don't know why Easy Clean only shows up when CCleaner is "run as administrator". Is that a me too only thing?
