  1. When you open the task manager craig there is a help option on the top line which, if you click on, you can choose the help topics. There's quite a lot of task manager info in that, worth a read anyway.

  2. Did you install those apps on Returnil by the way?

Cannot remember if you have vista Dennis, but if you do you can do a system restore in safe mode and you may not get that "settings not changed" then. (I've been reading again!)

You can also use safe mode in xp as well for sys restore.

  3. Have you installed any new codec packs or anything like that?

The error message didn't mention data execution prevention did it?

As Firery pointed out though, not playing on the computer but playing on another device could be a hardware problem.

  4. Well, I just ran Zsoft Uninstaller and started to install the latest build of CCleaner. Suddenly, I saw the Yahoo Toolbar notice in the license agreement, stopped the install, and realized I had to go get the other build (No toolbar - English only) here:

Yes that is the only build I use, and why I posted the new link in my post above.

I know you can choose not to install the toolbar, but like you I prefer the slim. :)

  5. How would this be done? (I right clicked on the CCleaner icon on my desktop (in WinXP) and saw 'compatibility,' but didn't see "run this program as an administrator."

    Thank you.

This only applies for vista Alice, which was what you asked about in your original post.

  6. Were you able to do a system restore to just before this happened? I know that will not give an answer but it may help with the sluggishness until you find out more.

If you go start, run, services.msc what does your indexing services show, enabled, disabled or auto?

Also have you enough disc space and memory?

  7. I actually think Norton could be very useful.

They could use it in computer night class training. You are given a computer loaded with all Norton software and AOL, the lot, and then told to get rid of it off the computer.

If you manage it you pass, if not, they cart you off to hospital suffering from severe stress.
