  1. Okay Culla, lets get things sorted here :)

I have no idea why your original link wasn't posted, or if it was removed.

From your first post in this thread it wasn't clear that you were asking for reassurance that it was a legit download from that site.

My post was just to keep you, and others, informed as to where CCleaner's own download site was.

I am not sure as to what pinned message you are referring to, what site is it on Culla?

I'm sure rdsok wasn't being overly critical, perhaps just making a remark based on the amount of info he had from this thread.

  2. Just in case you have, can you check and make sure you don't have 'Close program after cleaning' ticked in options>advanced.

If not what version are you running and are you xp or vista.

  3. Incidentally, as an alternative, you can download Doug Knox' script here

Save the vbs or exefile (your choice) to your hard drive, then create a shortcut to it on the Desktop or in Quick Launch, and you'll have that System Restore point at the press of a button. ;)

    Great idea Tony. :)

  4. Hello Steve and welcome to the forum. :)

I think for CCleaner to go the full distance and act as a system restore would be asking a lot of a free small program.

However just in case you didn't realise, when you do an 'issues' clean you are offered the choice of making a backup of the registry entries you have cleaned.

This is saved by default in 'my documents' and the entries can be restored to the registry by right-clicking on the backup and choosing merge.

In case you haven't seen the beginners guide, here it is

  5. If you have plugged in your monitor to another computer and everything is fine, it's not the monitor.

If you have plugged in another working monitor to your computer and it doesn't work, it's the computer.

If you can boot into safe mode and reach the desktop then that's something stopping you in normal startup such as malware, drivers, software conflict.

I had a strange problem a year or so ago where my computer wouldn't load properly and although it may sound strange this worked straight away and now I do this a couple of times a year.

Pull the plug for the computer from the wall, press and hold in the tower start button for over a minute, then plug the computer back to the wall socket and try again.

What this does is when you push in the start button it uses the static electric inside the tower to try and start the machine as there is no direct power. My computer had a build up of static inside which was causing havoc to the machine.

Of course this may not be the case for you, but I am sure you are willing to try most ideas at the moment to try and narrow things down.
