He wrote that program himself. It still impresses the hell out of me too.
Look here for more info:

Did we fix your problem?
-
Tell us if it works. If not we will see what else we can do.
-
No, you dont use regedit you use hijack this. select what Tarun said in hijack this (check box beside it) then click fix checked. Boot to safe mode first though.
-
Tarun what do you think the problem could be then? He dosent have malware and his pc is up to date?
-
Download This program and update it then scan and remove whatever it finds.

Then get this program and when you open it choose scan and save log file. then cut and paste the log here so we can look at it.

Disable zone alram and connect to the internet. Then disconnect and then reconnect. If it works than its zone alarms fault and we can go from their if not than somethings wrong with your pc. Also try to scan with spybot search and destroy and post a Hijack this log.

I think I must have my stupid head on tonight, beacause I cannot see the connection between all the posts in here and the two by Eldmannen.
Where did the bragging bit about how long you have been using computers fit in Eldmannen?
Just for the record, the first computer I ever used, was a BBC micro, back in 1981, remember them, and the first computer I ever owned was a ZX81, I think I got that in 1982, this I did lots of programming on, mainly games, all of which I submitted to magazines, but only one of them was ever published, for which I did receive payment, and I still have the magazine to this day.
Even though I have been using computers all that time, I am forever learning.
I am considered quite knowledgeable where computer use is concerned by friends and family, but I have only a fraction of the knowledge of some of the guys in here, who do not even need mentioning, we all know who they are.
None of his posts fit. On one topic where someone was trying to get thunderbird to work he told them to upgrade windows! I saw another where he told someone with ms office to use open office instead. He's gotten a little better but he still has no clue what he's talking about.
Oh you do seem to know what your talking about though. Also what was the game you made? Sounds cool.

DAMN! How did you know that?

Where I live is a closely guarded secret.

I dont think theirs anything else I can say to deter you from the windows firewall, but I can solve your first gripe with zone alarm just go to alerts and logs and turn them off then it blocks the bad stuff automatically and no more annoying pop ups.
As far as sygate and kerio go I have tryed them but only for about an hour a piece before I would switch back to ZA. But to be honest most of the time I hear that software firewalls arent the greatest anyway. I have a linksys router with a built in firewall that I got from staples on sale for about $50(802.11G and a firewall.)
-
It's probably the Windows firewall.
-
So you dont think it's a problem that the windows firewall dosent scan out going traffic? So what if you download a program that connects to the internet without your knowledge and downloads a virus? With zone alarm all I have to is click deny access and problem solved, not so with the windows firewall. Also right when sp2 first came out wasnt their a problem with certain viruses and worms that could actually shut it down? I have no clue if this was fixed.
What problems did you have with zone alarm? I have been using it for about two years and it has never crashed or anything. Once I allowed firefox and thunderbird and my games access to the internet and turned off the notifications I dont even know its running. I just click allow when a program wants access and thats it.
Look at this (look under other firewalls)as well. Zone Alarm recommended on a microsoft site? Sounds like the windows firewall is a stinker to me.
-
Has anyone ever tried a program called Previx before? I saw it at download.com and it sounds interesting its like an additional firewall but you keep the one your using. Look at it HERE. It got good reviews from cnet but the people who left reviews said it wasnt good but most of them sounded kind of dumb though.
-
It should install like an extension. Try to download it from here:
http://cdn.mozdev.org/chromedit/
Then go to Taruns website and cut and paste the optimizations.
-
Taruns right I just tried this program and it is slower than the chrom edit tweaks. I already had chromedit and installed this program and I could see it get significantly slower.
-
Do not use the windows firewall it is very bad at stopping anything. Get this its called zone alarm and its free. Go through its configurations and you wont even know its running (turn off notifications).

No one has mentioned the folder that has the windows logo and the other has a wmp icon as well. If he was on a mac why would he use those icons?
-
Read his first post he already has firefox. It's fine to give suggestions but at least read their entire problem first, so you dont make things worse
-
what kind of pages are you trying to open? Also are you on dial up or broadband? Try running other anti spyware tools like spybot search and destroy or Microsoft anispyware beta (win xp only)
-
It's fixed now. It was down for about 10 minutes and I thought my internet was broken. Damn I'm changing my homepage back to yahoo (No chance in hell )
-
Try to go to google, it isnt working for me. Neither is yahoo mail.
-
I think I have found a temporary solution to this problem try this program:
http://downloads.theregister.co.uk/Windows...la_cleaner.html
It cleans the cache, history, ect. for firefox, mozilla, and thunderbird.
What Icons do you have on your desktop?

The calender is a widget. They have lots of them like weather, clocks, media player controlers, and picture frames. I'm not sure what the best program to do this with is but heres one that has free edition but is limited in what you can do.
