  1. So far nothing out of the ordinary since changing my email and password. I hope it doesn't happen again...
  2. Nope, nothing obvious. It was actually just a junk email account that I made up for it and not something anyone would guess. And the password was very random...just letters and numbers that didn't mean anything...so there's no way anyone could guess it. I've since created a new email and password though, just to be on the safe side.
  3. No grudges that I know of...especially with people in Canada. lol Email address has always been hidden, and I don't link to other services as far as I can tell. When the apps request access to my info I always click do not allow. I have my stuff pretty much on lock down for that very reason.
  4. Maybe someone here will have some guesses or something. Last night shortly after 1am, someone tried to gain access to my Facebook account...from Canada. There's one person who knows the email address I use for it, and she's in Ohio so I know it wasn't her. Apparently they never got in, which is good, but I changed my password anyway. Now I'm just wondering how someone could attempt to get in if they don't know my email address. Also, is there a way someone could gain access without me knowing and actually be viewing my account from time to time or anything? This is the first time this has happened so it's kind of weirded me out. Then I started thinking that maybe someone has a similar email address and typed mine by mistake. I'm sure that could happen. But I may change the email address associated with it just as an extra precaution... Any takers?
  5. He definitely was. Everyone loved him. I try. Sometimes I just don't have his patience. lol
  6. mjp - I'm sorry to hear about your dad and brother. But like you said, there are great memories so I'm sure that helps. Fluffy and Dennis - My dad was awesome, and definitely a kind man. Even the nurses taking care of him said he was such a sweetheart. He'd give you the shirt off his back if you needed it and would help whomever and however he could regardless of his disability. And he supported every one of my crazy ideas and even wanted in on some of them. My two best friends were treated as though they were his own, and they even called him daddy. That's something that doesn't happen everyday. He was loved by many, that's for sure. He truly was (still is) a good man.
  7. Thanks everyone. You all are too good to me. Dennis - you're right. These things are done to test us. The only problem is mom and I are getting really tired of all these damn tests! I'm still convinced we're just cursed. Andavari - nope he didn't suffer. He went quickly and quietly and that's a blessing right there. But I still say he was too young to go. He had so much more living to do. Fluffy suggested posting a pic of my dad, so I'll do that shortly.
  8. Thanks everyone. It's definitely been rough. And like I said, just when everything is going great, something goes and blows it all to hell. I swear, I don't know why this family is cursed. CT - It's definitely hard to lose family. My grandmother (who lived with us and who I took care of for 11 or so years) passed away in October of 2008. Now my dad. It's not fair, that's for sure. Ishi - no, my dad had NO problems at all until a couple of days before we sent him to the hospital. He complained of some back pain, but that was nothing out of the ordinary for him since he'd done some major damage to his back in his younger years, not to mention having polio and not being able to get around so much. But then he started turning yellow (jaundice) and that was when mom and I decided we needed to get him to the ER as soon as possible. He was ok Monday while he was there, and he was fine Tuesday morning when we saw him but then we left because they were supposed to take him for a liver biopsy. Just before they took him, that's when he started going downhill. His blood work was all over the charts, his breathing was becoming labored and his vitals were up and down. They rushed him to ICU instead of doing the biopsy and from there they intebated him (put him on a breathing machine) and ended up having to put him a dialysis machine because he went into renal failure and his body had gone septic (blood poisoning). The day after, we found out that his cancer was terminal and that due to being in liver failure, there wasn't even a remote chance of saving him. So mom left him on the life support machines so my brothers could get here and two days later, we had to say goodbye. It was very hard to watch him go. But at least we were with him and we were able to say goodbye. And to be honest with you, even if he had symptoms early on, he never would have gone through any kind of treatment. He wouldn't put us or himself through that, especially if the end result would be the same (meaning terminal cancer). So he would have just lived until it was time for him to go. He always told me he never wanted to know if anything was wrong with him. I can sort of understand why now.
  9. Hey everybody. Been a while since I was around. Had lots going on. You all knew we had to move, and we did. April 18th was the big day. The place is nice, neighborhood is quiet and the neighbors are friendly. But it seems to be that with all good things that come, something bad follows shortly after. Just this past week, not even a month after moving, my father had to be taken to the hospital. He went down hill very quickly and on Friday, he took his last breath. He was 69 years old, with a birthday just a month and a half away. He'd gone into acute liver failure, followed quickly by kidney failure. It turned out that he had liver cancer (no active liver tissue left at all), a small 2.5cm tumor on his left lung and possibly had colon cancer. Mom is having him autopsied to get a full report...why did he show no signs of anything till a week before dying, exactly what kind of cancer was it, etc. I offered up every organ I could possibly give him, but the doctors said that there was just no way to save him. So he left peacefully just after 6pm on Friday, surrounded by his family. Even my two best friends came to say goodbye to him. He was a good man who is loved by many. He'll definitely be missed. So now mom and I are trying to pick up the pieces, so to speak. My brothers and my cousin are still here, so that's helping. But it's definitely not easy. I can't imagine what it's going to be like when they leave and it's just me and mom. But anyway, I just wanted to give you all and update and let you know what's been going on since I had so many PM's waiting for me in my inbox.

    Laptop question

Got the internet figured out...sort of. It's a problem with my neighbor's router. I tried pinging it again and it said "media disconnected". Went to a different part of the house and ended up being able to connect to another neighbor's connection with no problem. So it's not my laptop, thank goodness. lol Now to tackle McAfee...

    Laptop question

Thanks for the McAfee tools! I'll be using them as soon as I get that sucker to actually get on the 'net. lol

    Laptop question

I tried the ping option. 4 packets sent, 4 packets received. When I tried to access the router through IE, it still wouldn't actually connect. I'm stumped.

    Laptop question

LOL I did that (i'm not *that dumb lol). And it kept telling me that Virus Scan was still running and to shut it down to continue with the uninstall. Problem is I can't seem to shut it down completely. I rebooted then killed it in the task manager only and it STILL said it was running. Just one more reason why I hate McAfee. Ok I'll give that a go. Thanks!!! Yeah I meant pointer. Sorry, my brain is gone lately. haha But it seems to be ok now that I've rebooted again so I won't mess with anything unless it happens again.
  16. So I finally got my hands on a laptop thanks to a girl I used to work with. It's a 2006 (I think) Gateway running XP. Got a couple questions because I'm having issues now that I've actually got it home. Why do things always work elsewhere? lol 1. How do I kill McAfee so I can uninstall it? I shut it down thru the taskbar and it still tells me Virus Scan is running even though when I hit Ctrl Alt Del it doesn't show up. 2. The wireless stuff was working at her house. I brought it home and connected to my neighbor's wireless like I do with my iPod (yes, she knows I do this) and even though I'm "connected", it doesn't let me on the web. I can't figure out why?? 3. The cursor doesn't want to work with the touchpad now. It was fine, then I turned it off since I had to take my mom to work and when I booted it back up, the cursor went all wonky when I touched the touchpad. It even moves on it's own...like down the screen. Did I already break it?? I swear, electronics and I are never on good terms. lol

    Free DVD ripper?

    Awesome. Thank you!
  18. CaAnybody know of a good, free DVD ripper?
  19. Yeah ebay is hit or miss. I had an ebay business at one time quite a few years ago and I did pretty good. I have been wanting to get back into it, but since I don't have the start up capital anymore (to buy inventory and whatnot), it's on hold. But thanks guys. I really do appreciate the advice and all you've given. Like I said, something will work out.
  20. Yeah I run across the internet jobs all the time...but like you said, you don't know if they're scams or not. And unfortunately, most I've found probably are. I did apply for all that Mystery Shopping stuff not too long ago, but was told they currently didn't need anyone in my area and would contact me should a position become available. We are definitely thrifty, but we've always been like that. We don't buy something unless it's on sale or clearance or if it's from a discount store. Oh well. Something will work out for us, I'm sure. Just another test from God to prove how strong we are as a family.
  21. Well, I won't go into detail so I'll just say this much. His daughter wants him to sell our house, her house (which he pays for) and his house to buy a million dollar home down in Sanibel and a new boat (which I think he has already purchased) and she's tired of waiting. There's more to it than that, but basically it boils down to her selfishness and her unrelenting need for him to pay for her every want and desire even though she's in her 40's and has a full time job. I wish I had stuff to sell on ebay otherwise that would be my first choice. But we don't have anything that's rare or a collectible or anything.
  22. Yeah they frown upon that here...going as far as issuing tickets to people for doing it. And I can't afford to pay a fine for washing windows. lol I never gave the Salvation Army a thought, but will look into that. Thanks for the suggestion. As for my uncle...I've already told him where we stand on everything. What he chooses to do about it is up to him. But since we have been here for over 20 years, by law we're required to have no less than 60 (or was it 90?) days notice to move out when the time comes. And we can even appeal that if we need more time. And with the info I we have on him, he won't want to attempt anything stupid.
