  21. What is Resource Hacker? Resource HackerTM is a freeware utility to view, modify, rename, add, delete and extract resources in 32bit Windows executables and resource files (*.res). It incorporates an internal resource script compiler and decompiler and works on Win95, Win98, WinME, WinNT, Win2000 and WinXP operating systems. Viewing Resources: Cursor, Icon, Bitmap, GIF, AVI, and JPG resource images can be viewed. WAV and MIDI audio resources can be played. Menus, Dialogs, MessageTables, StringTables, Accelerators, Delphi Forms, and VersionInfo resources can be viewed as decompiled resource scripts. Menus and Dialogs can also be viewed as they would appear in a running application. Saving Resources: Resources can be saved as image files (*.ico, *.bmp etc), as script files (*.rc), as binary resource files (*.res), or as untyped binary files (*.bin). Modifying Resources: Resources can be modified by replacing the resource with a resource located in another file (*.ico, *.bmp, *.res etc) or by using the internal resource script compiler (for menus, dialogs etc). Dialog controls can also be visually moved and/or resized by clicking and dragging the respective dialog controls prior to recompiling with the internal compiler. Adding Resources: Resources can be added to an application by copying them from external resource files (*.res). Deleting Resources: Most compilers add resources into applications which are never used by the application. Removing unused resources can reduce an application's size. This will be great for designers and GUI Modders like me .. http://www.angusj.com/resourcehacker/
  22. Halo 3, exclusive the Xbox 360 video game console, obliterated the old record by making $170 million dollars in the first 24 hours of release. It set a new record for all of entertainment, even besting out Spiderman 3 and the last Harry Potter book. The third game in the Halo series was confirmed by Microsoft to have grossed that huge of an amount on Thursday, four days after its launch in the United States. Van Baker, a Gartner analyst, says,"Everybody that plays it says it is just a kick-ass game". He predicts that 500,000 to 1,000,000 more 360s will sell the following year than normal because of Halo 3. "And 170 million bucks in the first 24 hours is pretty impressive. It wouldn't surprise me to see Xbox 360 spank (Nintendo's) Wii in unit volume in October and November," he adds.Halo 3 is the third, and last, installment in a trilogy following Master Chief, a futuristic warrior, fight an alien organization called Covenant. Jill Hamburger, vice president of movies and games at Best Buy, said, "The initial demand we've seen for 'Halo 3' has been astounding, and the game is on track to become the number one gaming title of all time."
  23. SAN JOSE, California (AP) -- A New York woman is so angry at Apple Inc. for lopping $200 off the price of the iPhone that she's filed a lawsuit seeking $1 million in damages. http://i.l.cnn.net/cnn/2007/TECH/10/02/app...hand.afp.gi.jpg Dongmei Li of Queens, New York, claimed the company violated price discrimination laws when it slashed the price of the 8-gigabyte iPhone by a third, from $599 to $399, within two months of the gadget's June debut. Apple lowered the iPhone's price on September 5 and also said it would stop selling the $499 4-gigabyte model. Hundreds of early customers who paid full price didn't expect a reduction so soon and complained. Apple issued an apology the next day. Under its return policy, Apple refunded the $200 difference for those who bought the phone within 14 days of the reduction. And in a move to make peace with those who purchased the higher-priced phone before that period, the company offered a $100 credit at Apple stores. According to Li's lawsuit, filed on September 24 in the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of New York, the price reduction injured early purchasers like herself because they cannot resell the product for the same profit as those who bought the cell phone following the price cut. Li purchased a 4GB iPhone for $499 and alleged that owners of the 4GB model were given less favorable terms than those who bought the 8GB model at the premium price, according to the lawsuit. Apple spokeswoman Susan Lundgren declined to comment, citing the company's policy to not discuss pending litigation. The lawsuit also named AT&T Inc., the exclusive carrier in the U.S. for the iPhone, and alleged the two companies' required two-year service contract for the iPhone constituted unfair business practices. Mark Siegel, an AT&T spokesman, declined to comment, saying he had not yet seen the lawsuit.
  24. A two-year-old Nano, the most popular edition of the iPod, caught on fire in Danny William's pocket. He was working at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, according to a telephone interview with his mother Elaine, when a fire broke out in his pocket. In the fifteen seconds it was smoldering, the flames got up to his chest. Danny thinks that some glossy paper in his pocket protected the flames from burning him. Apple has sent a packet to him to return his Nano. Representatives were not immediately available for comment. Lithium-Ion batteries are contained in iPod models, which were a problem earlier this year. Laptops from brands such as Apple, Dell, and Lenovo, had a recall placed on them because there were reports of their batteries catching on fire.
