Hope she`s got a lot of good support and a good lawyer, and lets hope common sense rears its head in time.

 

Even if so, she's broke by now.

 

I got sort of interested in this one, just enough to google a bit. Not too thorough, but enough to know that a storm is brewing. Bet school admins are taking notice. I did google the 2 hairstyle websites: http://www.hair-styles.org and

Interestingly, few seem to fault the school administrators, but that is maybe changing. One shot across the bow of the school administration:

No mention of testimony from the children. That is to be expected, but I wonder what they said, if anything, about the incident.

 

My 2 cents: We should take extraordinary measures to protect children from themselves.

I'm not one to think you should sue over every little thing, but if I was this woman I would sue the hell out of whoever is in charge here.(the school system I guess) I wouldn't expect millions but I would get the lawyer fees and however much pay I would have gotten had I not been in jail.

 

The fact that the school hadn't kept up on licenses to their security/filtering software alone makes this case a joke.

I'm all for them filtering porn off of educational institution computers, but if they let the licenses expire, its their own fault.

 

This woman was 40 years old and even pregnant at the time. Does this sound like someone who is trying to show off porn to little kids?(granted there are some freaks out there, it just doesn't add up.)

Class action civil suit by the parents would get them moving , and also get plenty of attention on the situation. Maybe not as much as a 40 year criminal sentence, but plenty.

We live in a country where everything is SOMEONE ELSE'S fault. I do, however, think it is important to protect kids, at least until they develop some sense of their own. Wonder when that would be, maybe around 55 years old?

I don't believe the woman had any intention of corrupting schoolkids. it's just another "sue" case, media pressure and all that.

 

These days I feel sorry for kids who are always having to be "protected" in some cases so much they never have a chance to assess and learn how to deal with situations and danger. (I'm not talking about porn here, that goes without saying)

 

When I was at school, a long time ago I might add, when it was really cold and freezing, the teacher would throw buckets of water onto the playground so it would freeze and we could have fun at playtimes sliding in the school yard.

I can still slide with the best of them to this day!!

Can you imagine, doing someone a favor by babysitting their 12 year old, who was allowed to have a friend over, hearing a shot, finding one of the children dead from a gunshot wound, then being charged with endangering childrens' lives? Meanwhile, it's not your house, you had no idea there was a gun there at all nor whether it was stored properly or not. Only in America. I hope.

If the gun wasn't stored properly the parents are probably the one who got in trouble.(along with the kid, I don't care how dumb a 12 year old is, they've had enough time to learn you don't shoot people)

I was comparing to the case with the teacher using this analogy. The School board/Principal or whoever is not the one in trouble, it is the baby-sitter.

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO WERE BORN IN THE 1930's 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's !!

 

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they carried us.

 

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes.

 

Then after that trauma, our baby cribs were covered with bright colored lead-based paints.

 

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.

 

As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags.

 

Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.

 

We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle.

 

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and no one actually died from this.

 

We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank soda pop with sugar in it, but we weren't overweight because......we were always outside playing!!

 

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.

 

No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.

 

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.

 

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 99 channels on cable, no video tape movies, no surround sound, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet or Internet chat rooms..........WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

 

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.

 

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

 

We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.

 

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just yelled for them!

 

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!

 

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!

 

This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!

 

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas. We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!

 

You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated our lives for our own good. And while you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave their parents were.

 

Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it?!

The no bike helmets brings back my earliest days of head banging, well before I was into Metal music.

 

I'm just surprised with all the dangerous stuff we did we're still here, but then again we weren't sheltered from nearly as much as little ones nowadays.

So in other words you're crediting someone else who in turn probably got it for someone else, and that some probably also got it from someone else (if you're not understanding this it must be because of no bike helmets when I was growing up).

Yes, I agree. But. The only real change in your list is the internet and population density. At least in Canada.

It's a vicious circle. If one in a million is a serial killer, it stands to reason that the same city now expanded to 3 million people has 3 serial killers.

We want to hear the latest news, but on the other hand, I think some people get their ideas from the media.

Kids taking guns to schools and killing. Would they have thought to do that had they not heard about it?

Nothing seems to be done in moderation anymore. Everything is to the extreme. IMHO.
