CCleaner does not respect my choice

... You can spot it by that Orange, sometimes Green, 'Get Pro' button being there instead of the Grey 'Upgrade' that everyone else sees.

(and of course by the fact that it doesn't work properly).

A changed “Upgrade” button can always occur after the installation of version 6.24 and is therefore not a reliable indication of a locked “Custom Clean”.

I suspect this is probably a test to see which color/label combination most users click on.

Please see my reply in the other thread.

It is not the colour per-se, it's the different wording.

Worried about 'Tracking Files'? Worried about why some files come back after cleaning? See this link:

No, as written in the other thread, the labeling has nothing to do with it either. Color and labeling is just randomly selected.

It's funny, this back and forth between the two threads. 😄

For the cookies:

Go to Options>Cookies and right click anywhere in the 'cookies to keep' list.
'Export' them to a text file.
After the reinstall do the same and 'Import' them.

What a great tip again!

I did see ‘Save all settings to INI file’ earlier.

Place this INI file in the Data folder after reinstallation, I assume?

By the way, I also see an .ini in the main folder.

I will have a try!

Yes/No - it's in the main CCleaner folder that you want the .ini file.

The .ini holds all of your CCleaner settings, includes/excludes, etc. (But not the cookies to keep).

I keep a backup of my own CCleaner.ini in a different place than the CCleaner folder.

That way if/when I've been changing settings when answering on here, or following a complete uninstall/reinstall,  I can just copy it back into the CCleaner folder to restore my own settings as they were.

The CCleaner is working again.

All settings are back in order.

The cookies to keep were successfully imported but after a restart, they were gone! And the text file was also gone!

Strange enough, some cookies to be retained were still present despite a ‘deep delete’ with the Geek Uninstaller.

The most important cookie was also gone: browser code for bank login for my girlfriend and myself.

Much effort to restore that again.

Fortunately, I had taken a screenshot of the cookies to be retained.

If you have read the just posted important announcement at the top of the forum it looks like it may all have been a test in order to make custom clean a Pro feature only.

The last sentence closes the door: "By regularly reviewing the CCleaner feature set we can ensure the continued evolution of CCleaner and bring even greater value to our customers".

Nice manager speak! 🙂
