TODAY,

I, Checked CCleaner Professional to See if there were ANY Updates (usually I, Have it on Automatic Updates..) BUT, Today I, Checked Manually.

It, Show that there is a Update, However, when I, Cleck on *UPDATE NOW, from within the Software, I, get this Error (See, Attached Screenshot..)

Can Someone Tell, me WHY, I, can't Update & How to Find the Most Recent Updates for CCleaner.

Thanks..

Try using the 'Slim' installer from here, it's the 3rd one down, https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds

(Bookmark that link, it's where advanced users get the latest installers).

Just double click ccsetup618_slim.exe once downloaded and it should install the update over the existing CCleaner.

I've just this minute done it here with no problem.

'0x6 The handle is invalid' is a common Windows error code. Something is stopping Windows from fetching/applying the update.
Just what it is that is stopping it could be any of a thousand causes.

Windows Updates, such as the monthly Patch Tuesday updates, are often known to be a cause 0x6 errors.
It was Patch Tuesday this week.

We find that when it happens with CCleaner then using the slim installer usually gets around the blockage.

  • 4 weeks later...

I have been using microsoft and ccleaner for a long time and never had this same issue that happened to me today. I tried updating and got the error but ccleaner updated after like the fifth try without the slim installer.  I will believe that it's either something within the ccleaner software or the two not playing well together before I think it's microsoft's issue alone but I will keep the slim installer idea in mind should this happen again and I can't get ccleaner to update since it worked for Banballow.

Many of us don't use the update within CCleaner itself but always use the Slim installer as the 'go-to' for updating.

As noted above though about Windows Updates, it's was December's Patch Tuesday this week and I suspect that was the cause of your issue today.

You literally reposted what you posted above which is unnecessary and redundant. You may "suspect" all you like but I didn't need to download the slim version because it updated as per usual, updating within the ccleaner (as people should if they do not have auto update on) you may be incorrect, but then you may be right. No need to reply.

Actually if you look at the dates of the posts you will see that they refer to different months and so two different Patch Tuesdays.

As long as you are happy with your CCleaner update now then fair enough.
