No Firefox bookmarks

Recommended Posts

Installed the latest CC update, then opened my Firefox Mozilla browser but there are no bookmark. After investigation my pc I see message from FF that a security program on my pc is the cause of the problem. Then moved into Windows Explorer and attempted to delete/rename Firefox files and message appears that CCleaner is, in my words, “the culprit”

All advice/assistance will be warmly welcomed.

CCleaner does not clear Firefox bookmarks, I'm a Firefox user myself. (Neither is CCleaner a 'Security Program', it's a junk cleaner).

What investigations did you do?

What message is Firefox showing you? (Post a screenshot if possible).

What exact message is Windows Explorer Showing you? (Post a screenshot if possible).
(How would Windows Explorer know just what/who had deleted any files?)

Have you just updated Firefox to 77.0.1? Sometimes Firefox can lose bookmarks during an update.
Which is one reason Mozzilla have an article on how to recover lost bookmarks in Firefox, see this:

In that case also see this: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/fix-bookmarks-and-history-will-not-be-functional

Why have you assumed that this has any connection to CCleaner?

Strange, CCleaner should not be using those files at all.
(Can you screenshot that message?)

Let's look at fixing it.
Close Firefox if it's open.
Open Task Manager and look for anything CCleaner that may be running, and 'End Task' on it.
Then open Firefox and see if the bookmarks are back.

I cannot see CCleaner mentioned in your screenshot. It mentions 'some security software'

CCleaner is NOT security software.

What antivirus do you use and what other security software do you use e.g Malwarebytes.

OK that rules out CCleaner being the problem, if CCleaner is not running then it can't have any files open. (and nothing in that screenshot alert message even mentions CCleaner).

'Some security applications' tends to make me think that it may be your antivirus.

Restart your computer. Use the 'Restart' button not the 'Shut Down' button.

Once it's back up then try Firefox again.
