Moderators Andavari Posted May 1, 2017 Moderators Share Posted May 1, 2017 More info is needed: * Your operating system. * Which version of CCleaner.
Moderators hazelnut Posted May 1, 2017 Moderators Share Posted May 1, 2017 Not sure why you decided to run CCleaner with all the advanced options ticked, was there a reason you did this? Have you re-started machine? If all else fails you could just reinstall Win 10. Moderators hazelnut Posted May 1, 2017 Moderators Share Posted May 1, 2017 What do you see after a restart... just the grey screen? No icons at all ? You can download the Win 10 iso file from Microsoft and install it. If you already had Windows 10 it will activate automatically. https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10 Support contact https://support.ccleaner.com/s/contact-form?language=en_US&form=general or support@ccleaner.com

Moderators mta Posted May 1, 2017 Moderators Share Posted May 1, 2017 shouldn't need to re-download WIn10, it should have created a Recovery partition on your hard drive. you may be able to 'reset' Windows 10. when you shut the PC down, hold down the Shift key and select the Restart option (instead of Shutdown). when it reboots, it'll show the Advanced Startup Options, click Troubleshoot. Moderators mta Posted May 2, 2017 Moderators Share Posted May 2, 2017 in that case, Plan B time Aileen. the other way to get to the Advanced Startup Options is to start the PC, when you see Windows trying to load (spinning white circle) hold down the power button for 3 seconds. that'll shutdown the PC. repeat 2 or 3 times and eventually the PC will start with a prompt "Diagnosing PC, Please wait" (or words to that effect) and take you to the ASO screen. Moderators mta Posted May 3, 2017 Moderators Share Posted May 3, 2017 OK, way to go... now options abound. you can click Troubleshoot, Advanced options, Startup settings, hit Restart, and when it restarts, hit 4) for Safe Mode. this is the 'safest' approach so far, we want to see if the PC at least can start in good 'ol Safe Mode. if not, next I would try, Troubleshoot, Advanced options, System Restore, and try the first restore point shown. this process can take quite a few minutes, and in my experience, fails more often than not, so if the first one you select fails, try the next, and repeat 2 or so more times. fingers crossed as this is the preferred option to take. failing that, and assuming you have no image backup of your PC, the last option is Troubleshoot, Advanced options. Reset this PC. after that choice, you should have the options to either Reset everything from scratch or Reset Windows 10 leaving my files intact. aileen rodvelt
okay first suggestion worked up until the "safe mode" (#4) was chosen; when i tapped the 4 it went to a dark blue screen
aileen rodvelt
if nothing else happens with my blue screen, should i repeat the process again of power key hold for three seconds when starting up and start over with your number 2 suggestion? Moderators mta Posted May 3, 2017 Moderators Share Posted May 3, 2017 bugger. well, I wasn't too surprised, that's why a added the extra options. it was at best a final clutch at the straw. whatever has happened to get your grey screen, is still 'broken', hence the blue screen in Safe Mode. if Windows can't even boot into Safe Mode, then it's broken. So yes, redo the power button trick and try option 2. Backup now & backup often. It's your digital life - protect it with a backup.Three things are certain; Birth, Death and loss of data. aileen rodvelt
okay i went through the power trick and straight to option system restore; they tell me there is no system restore point on my driver and if i want to create a restore point to go to system protection. aileen rodvelt
might be time for option 3?
Moderators mta Posted May 3, 2017 Moderators Share Posted May 3, 2017 yep, running out of choices. do it all again and pick the Reset option. choose the 'leave my files alone' option. if you are in any way concerned about your data, for the extra warm fuzzy feeling, it would be nice to backup your data. but that would entail removing your hard drive and either putting it into another PC or into an external enclosure. the effort of that would be directly proportional to the importance and amount of data. and of course, even though not helpful in this instance, it should go without saying that you should setup some sort of backup process after this. Windows 10 has a decent built-in file backup and system imaging software, all you need is an external drive. Moderators mta Posted May 3, 2017 Moderators Share Posted May 3, 2017 glad to hear it. although no idea how you got into this predicament, or CC's rule in it, at least make sure you use the default settings for CC in future and especially not selecting all options in Advanced. just use the default.
