Moderators Nergal Posted May 7, 2021 Moderators Share Posted May 7, 2021 wait you're saying a developer can't tell you to update before filing a bug/complaint. That can't be true, i've NEVER met a developer who didn't say that. Including right here on ccleaner, even if the bug isn't fixed in a version if they accepted logs from an old version they'd have to wade through manure that they'd already taken care of in upgrades. ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark) ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T. Willy2
- Of course, one should always update whenever possible. Because otherwise users can report bugs that already have been fixed in the new update. - I always keep copies of previous versions of OEC, It allows me to go back to a previous version when something in OEC doesn't work. Before a new update is installed the new update is downloaded and stored in one of the sub-directories under "C:\users\<--user-->\appdata\local\Oeclassic\..... ". Before allowing OEC to update the program I always copy the new update to another folder. - In general OEC now has all the basic features an emailprogram should have. For now I can't think of any MAJOR feature that should be added to the program. Perhaps other readers of this thread still have wishes for the current version of OEC ? - The existing program code and the the existing features still need to be improved/expanded. The program code also needs A LOT OF more - what I would call - "polishing". System setup: http://speccy.piriform.com/results/gcNzIPEjEb0B2khOOBVCHPc A discussion always stimulates the braincells !!! Airwolf4
You missed my point . . . I was asking about current features . . . not reporting a bug . . . big difference. Edited June 17, 2021 by Airwolf4
Willy2
- There is a program released that will help users of OEC to back up the user data files. This program is NOT developed by the developers of OEC and that's why the developers of OEC don't take any responsiblity if / when something goes wrong as a result of using the program. https://oldnesjunkie.com/oeclassic.php System setup: http://speccy.piriform.com/results/gcNzIPEjEb0B2khOOBVCHPc A discussion always stimulates the braincells !!! Willy2
- The program that was mentioned in my previous post is (to put it friendly) not (yet) "free of bugs". And the developer has already fixed one issue. If you have a problem with the program then you send them a message through the contact form on their website (also fixed). Willy2
- The author of the OEC backup program (see my post of august 7, 2021) has the intention/has plans of making a multi language version of the program. If you are someone who has a non-english Windows OS and wants to translate the program into your language then send the author a message you want to help him out. Willy2
- There have been several updates for Outlook Express Classic (OEC) this year. The latest Beta version was released today (november 3, 2021). All new versions are for the PRO version of the program. In all of these versions small bugs have been fixed and small improvements have been introduced. Some of these bugfixes & improvements are listed at https://www.oeclassic.com/news - The developers also have made A LOT OF changes "deep under bonnet" that gave the developers (among others) more freedom to introduce (more) features. Below some relevant quotes (in italics) taken from OEC's Facebook page (Date: june 13, 2021): "We've had it! For years we've been using a third party component for displaying or editing HTML messages. While the component did work it also had presented us with a number of limitations such as inability to customize it according to your feature requests, memory leaks (memory being allocated but never released), inability to move to newer compiler and much more. So we decided - it is time to bite the bullet and create our own implementation. It took us weeks of painstaking work. What we have at the moment as a result is an alpha version available to download on the page https://www.oeclassic.com/user" "A lot of code has been changed internally in the program itself. Good news though is that the functions which are responsible for reading or writing data to disk haven't been touched, so data loss should not occur. It may even work well, but it still requires more testing, which is why it is an alpha release. It is not offered in the built in automatic updater, only on the above web page." - The developers have said that OEC version v4.0 will be released in the (near ?) future. (My personal opinion is and remains that OEC should have released a new FREE version of OEC after the MAPI capability was added.(see a previous post in this thread.)) Willy2
- New version of OEC PRO (v3.2.47) released. See my reply here: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/oe-classic-discussions-and-updates.393261/page-21#post-3064973 The information below comes from OEC's Facebook page when OEC version v3.2.44 was released: "This update is a huge milestone for us - we've finished updating the program for a new compiler which brings us more modern features support which we'll be adding into OE Classic. Last compiler we were using was from 2010, so it is a huge step forward. This also took us a lot of time to make all the adjustments and tests to ensure everything works well. The update to the new compiler has revealed one major bug which could cause crash when exiting the program, which was completely hidden with the previous compiler even though the bug existed then as well. Another update is the support for High DPI monitors but this time - per monitor. Meaning - if you use 2 monitors and one of them is using lower DPI like 96 DPI, and another one higher DPI, when dragging the program from one to another monitor it will automatically readjust itself to higher or lower DPI, which wasn't the case previously. So it will make working with dual (or triple) monitors more comfortable. Some built in components were updated as well which again we couldn't do with the older compiler, so you'll notice some changes when dragging and dropping messages, more contrast for selected message in the list when message list is out of focus and more." Willy2
- Does anyone know who has thourough knowledge of the danish language and wants to become a translator for the OEC emailprogram ? - Outlook Express Classic has advanced to version v3.2.74. Based on what I read on Facebook the developers are in the final stages of preparing the next OEC FREE version. Willy2
- The company that develops OEC now has a YouTube channel with currently 2 instruction videos for OEC. Willy2
The following text (in italics) was taken from OEC's Facebook feed: "We are looking for translators of OE Classic user interface into the following languages (in the order of priority for OE Classic development): - Finnish - Portuguese (European variant only) - Danish - Japanese - Chinese (Traditional) - Chinese (Simplified) - Hebrew - Arabic We are only looking for one translator for each language. Translators should be native speakers of the above languages and decently fluent in English and should have familiarity using Windows programs in those languages (to recognize the appropriate translation commonly used in the language)." (It looks like that the next FREE version of OEC (v3.3.xx ? or v4.0 ? ) will be released this or next week. Fingers crossed). - Doesn't the CCleaner forum allow to "hotlink" to a YouTube video/channel (see my previous post) ? Is there a reason for that ? Willy2
- The users of OE Classic who have installed version v4.5 should remove that version (with the "removal tool" that comes with the program) and go back to version v4.2. There were still too much bugs in the program code of version v4.5. In v4.5 the user can choose which rendering engine is to be used, like e.g. the MS Edge rendering engine (recommended). - Version v4.2 still has some "stability issues" that need to be resolved in a future new version of OEC. When this issue wil be resolved depends on the decisions made by the developers of OEC. It seems that these issues can be avoided by unticking the box called "Minimize program to system tray". - The developers are still looking for translators for a few languages (see the information provided in a previous post in this thread).
