kodak123
Hi, I've set up my old computer because I can't gain access to the internet. I noticed Cleaner wasn't opening as usual some 2 weeks ago and thought it was just a minor blip. After 2 hours today, unable to access the internet (the service provider ran diagnostic checks), I attempted to open Ccleaner - no luck, or it opened minutes after I double clicked and refused to work. I decided to remove it (uninstall) - won't budge - 50% into the removal bar it stops - tried it many times and no luck. I've never had a problem with Ccleaner since I started using it many years ago - not one problem. My computer Is effectively down. Is there a possibility that v4.19 has a hidden bug in the software? I'm lost.
Moderators Nergal Posted January 30, 2015 Moderators Share Posted January 30, 2015 Let's start with some basics Windows Version? Anti-Malware Software brand and version? Anything else different on the machine coinciding with this issue. Can you not get on to the internet for a known reason, or could this be related? Moderators Andavari Posted January 30, 2015 Moderators Share Posted January 30, 2015 If that were my computer I'd download a couple of antivirus rescue disks/CDs to boot from and rule out possible malware: http://www.softpedia.com/hubs/Rescue-Disks
kodak123
Windows 8.1, Avast, and nothing beyond that. As I said, I'm unable to connect to the internet on my main computer. I can't remove Ccleaner v4.19 and it hasn't opened (or refused to open) lately.
login123
+1 to Andavari's suggestion. Also, there is a list of free malware removal sites here, in item 10 http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showannouncement=15&f=4: quoting: "...unable to access the internet (the service provider ran diagnostic checks)..." Was your internet service provider able to say why you couldn't access the 'net? The CCleaner SLIM version is always released a bit after any new version; when it is it will be HERE :-) Pssssst: ... It isn't really a cloud. Its a bunch of big, giant servers.
kodak123
Thanks for the replies, but why can't I remove Ccleaner and why has it not been opening normally? Never had a problem with older versions in the last 7 year. Is it possible there's a bug in v4.19? Why can't I uninstall it?
kodak123
Hi, login 123, I'm connected via my old computer to the same service provider.
kodak123
Hi Andavari, I don't understand why Ccleaner is the only program I've lost control of - it doesn't respond and I can't uninstall it. Everything else works, apart from web connectivity.

login123
Was your internet service provider able to say why you couldn't access the 'net with your other computer? Edit: OK, never mind, nergal is probably right. If you go to any of those sites they will work it out for you. I was thinking about some sort of router issue, or maybe a deeper issue with your non-functioning computer, but they will find it for you. Good luck. Let us know what you find. kodak123
Hi, I understand, but I removed Defraggler and other programs without any difficulty. Why did a virus/malware stop Ccleaner from being uninstalled?

kodak123
Hi, I will try that. Damn annoying, I've set-up my old computer in front of my new one - plugs, cables and interconnects - have to rejig them again - and I'm moving in a weeks time. I've got to say, I'm still puzzled on the Ccleaner's lack of operation, and my inability to remove v4.19 from my main computer. Moderators Andavari Posted January 31, 2015 Moderators Share Posted January 31, 2015 I'm still puzzled on the Ccleaner's lack of operation, and my inability to remove v4.19 from my main computer. Could be that the uninstaller for it is corrupted or missing, you can re-download that older version here to re-install it which would fix the uninstaller. But with your Internet connection not working on that computer it does sound like a malware infection, but then again sometimes that's not the case as it could be a hardware issue too like the network card could've died in the machine - something which I had happen to me just last year. Moderators mta Posted January 31, 2015 Moderators Share Posted January 31, 2015 or it could even be as simple as the proxy box got ticked somehow. go to Control Panel, Internet Options, Connections Tab, LAN Settings button, make sure NO boxes (in any of the fields) are ticked.
