Paige1979
I have just downloaded and installed Speccy. Everything seems okay, but on the hard drive view, it shows : Status : Warning and below that the temperature 40C which it says is okay. What does the warning mean? My laptop is a Toshiba, 7 years old. I'm not new to computers, but very new to speccy, so thank you in advance for any information! Paige
Moderators Andavari Posted March 11, 2014 Moderators Share Posted March 11, 2014 A temp warning would be for it being hot. However 40C is 104 Farenheit, but I don't know if that's considered very hot for a laptop or not.
Paige1979
This is the hdd report. The temp seems ok, so perhaps someone may be able to check the report and tell me if the warning is serious? Derek891
Hello Paige and welcome to the forum. From what I can see, the warning stems from three items. The first is 05-Reallocated Sectors Count-raw value 8, the second is C4-Reallocation Event Count-raw value 8, and the third is C5-Current Pending Sector Count-raw value 1. What this means is that you have 8 sectors that are viewed as undependable by S.M.A.R.T. analysis and a ninth that is on the fence. It's not the end of the world, especially when you take into account you've used the drive for seven years. Just keep an eye on it and see if these values increase over time. Another one to watch is C6-Uncorrectable Sectors Count, that will indicate any sectors that have been taken out of service completely. Start every day with a smile and get it over with. - W.C. Derek891
Hello Asuna_Yuuki and welcome to the forum. The ones to watch for are 05, C4, C5, and C6. It looks like you do have some values>0 present, but I'm terrible at hexadecimal conversions. In light of the fact that it's a Seagate drive, I think you should download and run Seatools, the manufacturer's analysis software. I always try to use the manufacturer's software rather than third party software, provided it's available. The link is here: http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/item/seatools-win-master/ Start every day with a smile and get it over with. - W.C. JohnnyRingo
Would someone please advise me on my report? I just had to reinstall Windows because of unending boot errors and I think the hdd might be the culprit, but these numbers are like a foreign language to me. http://imgur.com/kOlvzMy This is my main hard drive. I'm downloading the Seatools software that was suggested in the previous post as well. Update: my computer, again, "recovered from a serious error" last night. Guest johnccleaner
I suspect it's giving the warning because of that Spin-Up Time, as that would be suggesting that, as a rolling average, it's taking the hard drive about 3 hours, 20 minutes (!!!!) to come up to operational status from being told to start up. (Odd that it's willing to accept this as 'good', though, for a status.) Now, naturally, I assume that is inaccurate, as that would almost certainly make the computer unusable. More concerning, though, is if that means that the S.M.A.R.T. values for that drive are unreliable. It might be a good idea to see what diagnostic tools your hard drive's manufacturer has available and try running them, see if they show different data or if they also show cause for concern, and take steps accordingly.
