CCleaner wipes, but missreports file size wiped

CCleaner 3.14.1616 (I have Windows XP SP3) seems to be having trouble reporting files in the Recycle Bin larger than 2 GB wiped. During the analysis it will show the correct size of all the files in the Recycle Bin and I will see it wipe it. However, when the final report is shown, the file size wiped for the Recycle Bin will be smaller. Checking My Computer shows the file had been wiped or at least deleted and I regained the space.

open up a run box (Start menu Run)

type

 
"C:\Program Files\CCleaner\ccleaner.exe" /debug

Be sure to include the quote marks

Replace c:\program files\ccleaner with the location of you ccleaner.exe if it is different

replace ccleaner.exe with ccleaner64.exe if your system is 64bit instead of 32bit

Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark)

Ok, I've run the debug mode three times and nothing is happening, except for a "No Update Availible" when CCleaner starts up. I don't see a debug log being created or if it was where it would be located. Exactly what should be happening when I perform this?

 

Also, I noticed when I did a second attempt and when I ran in normal mode that CCleaner didn't wipe Run in the Start Menu.

 

Any additional help would be appreciated

see this is what I get when I I don't read an entire thread and only see that debugf was asked for

 

There is no need for a debug in this case, IMHO.

 

Yes there is a recycle bin issue with same name and same type (I think) issues and showing the current amount.

While it was improved in the latest version (Improved Recycle Bin cleaning and duplicated filenames.) I don't believe the issue is completly fixed

 

however (for further reference) the log for the debug can be found in the same folder that your ccleaner.exe is found

That's odd ccleaner should have asked for the UAC it's very good at that

I was expecting to see 2 GB available "to be removed" and subsequently an announcement of only "1 GB removed"

 

Is the debug under reporting size by a factor of 1000 ?

 

It does appear to me to have cleaned the exact amount that was approximately estimated.

Were you actually seeing totally different numbers on the GUI Windows display ?

Sorry, I forgot to delete two files to push the Recycle Bin total over 2GB. CCleaner seems to be working now for over 2 GB files, as came be seen by the log. Although "Run (In Start Menu)" isn't being deleted. The only thing different between the activity in this log and when I noticed the error in the new CCleaner is I had started the previous CCleaner, updated to the new version and then used it. Before doing this log, I had shutdown for several hours and started my computer. I don't know if that had anything to do with it.

 

Here's a log for over 3 GB, which are "MoscuvyEdit" (2GB) and "32611Edit" (1GB), for you.

 

If I may ask, what is the branding.dll error? Could that have been part of the problem?

When you launched CCleaner it probably got copied to RAM,

and almost certainly loaded its settings - presumably from the registry.

 

When you updated that would have replaced the previous CCleaner.exe, and maybe done new stuff in the registry.

 

If you failed to close the old CCleaner.exe before using the new version, all bets are off and chaos may rule supreme :)

I think you will see this in every /DEBUG file that is posted.

 

I see it on mine.

 

I believe the error is of no consequence,

and probably refers to the identification in the top left corner of the Window frame which states

Piriform CCleaner.

 

If your ISP supplies a CD to install broadband capability,

you will probably find it includes Internet Explorer etc "Branded" with the ISP name - I remember AOL did this to my daughter.
