Vanguard382
hey! well right now i use Avast Pro edition and i really like it... The only probelm i have with it is that it sometimes has problems removing the virus.... What i am lookinf for is a anti-v that is easy on the resources and has a super database of viruses. another thing i need the anti-v to have is a really good realtime protection like the one avast has. It does not have to be free, and itcan't be an anti-virus and firewall combined. Thanks Vanguard382

Moderators rridgely Posted October 22, 2005 Moderators Share Posted October 22, 2005 Read what I just posted in response to your other post: http://forum.CCleaner.com/index.php?showto...t=0entry20328 I have had a big problem with avast not removing what it finds. In the more recent when I go to clean someones pc I take avg and stinger with me(stinger is a stand alone virus tool not a full av).

Vanguard382
If i buy the etrust anti-virus should i buy just the regular homeuser edition or some other one? I want to get the best security possible.
Moderators rridgely Posted October 22, 2005 Moderators Share Posted October 22, 2005 They only offer one version and its the same for home and business users(the business one just costs more). Get the one year trial and I promise that once its over you will want to pay for it the next year.

Vanguard382
hey you know of any way i could test the real time protection of this anti-virus. So far so good and your right very little resources use.
slowday444
I use nod32. It is fast, has the best track record from the virus bulletin and continuously updates incrementally all day/week long. I'd also read it was light on resources!
Vanguard382
how is its realtime protection like if you got to a page with a virus or trojan will it block it?
slowday444
I've had it for almost a year (11+ months). I can remember getting the big red eye ball warning on either three or four emails (probably would have to rate my email activity as light though compared to many) and either once or twice I was software searching and was falsely directed to porn sites and received the nod32 eyeball warning. I'll look the virus bulletin tests up and link it! Oh, one other thing. I have Spyware Doctor, MS Anti Spyware, Adaware and SpybotS&D and one time I ran a 32 scan and it found an ad or spyware. Vanguard382
oh wow thats does sounds pretty good if i don't like e-trust anti-virus i got to give nod32 a try!! Thanks for your help
slowday444
Vanguard, you have to register now to view the results (which I did) but I could only find that it 100% passed the latest testing for each operating system. There used to be a chart that showed all the anti virus progs and how they did protecting all different systems for different test periods. All I can tell you is that nod32 holds some kind of record so that is why I chose it. I'm not trying to say it is the best. I do use cable access, however, I would really recommend it to someone on dial up because its updates are so small and numerous. Here is the VB link! Good Luck with your choice. Just found the chart, its called the comparative review. http://www.virusbtn.com/support/welcome
Ultimate Predator
Man this subject just goes on... Etrust rules, firewall wise, I use Sygate, but I might get a new one...
Vanguard382
Predator for firewall you should get outpost pro. I think if you seach fileforum they have a free version still. You can also get the new version for a 30 day trial Main page http://www.agnitum.com/products/outpost/ Free version http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Agnit...ll/1009877103/1 30 day free trial http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Agnit...ro/1009876979/1 Really nice and easy on the resources
Vanguard382
this is going to be hard i really like the looks of nod32 but etrust looks great to... Ahh this is so hard. Any one know a site that both are listed and review both just so i can get an idea of what other people like.
Moderators Andavari Posted October 23, 2005 Moderators Share Posted October 23, 2005 Another way to find out how security software stacks up against its competition is via ICSA Labs at https://www.icsalabs.com. They have lists of certified antivirus, firewall, etc., software. --- Edit More importantly when you view how your antivirus stacks up it's important that it be listed in both of the following catagories (for home PC users): * Products certified under Anti-Virus Cleaning Criteria * Products certified under Desktop/Server Anti-Virus Detection Note: Currently the fully featured (with resident shield) freeware antivirus solutions aren't even listed in the cleaning criteria, only commercial software has been certified for cleaning. Therefore if you want to detect viruses, and "possibly clean" infected files, then a paid commercial antivirus product is most probably needed. The true lightweight antivirus software that is certified in both catagories is eTrust EZ Antivirus. Lightweight meaning: Smallest download size, smallest installed size, not a resource hog, and quick full system scanning.
Vanguard382
thanks for all that info Andavari, i guess i will have to go with ez antivirus just becuase of all the great things backing it up! So it is completly free for one year then after tha i can buy it and have it for another year or would i just renew lisnese? Also does ez antivirus do any email scanning if it does not i don't mind just wondering? Thanks for all the help from every one that posted in this topic
Moderators Andavari Posted October 23, 2005 Moderators Share Posted October 23, 2005 So it is completly free for one year then after tha i can buy it and have it for another year or would i just renew lisnese? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It is free for the one year. When it is expiring the built in License and Registration tool will allow you to buy a new license for one or more years, it's up to you how long the renewal period will be according to how much you want to spend. Also does ez antivirus do any email scanning if it does not i don't mind just wondering? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Email scanning is built in for email software. If you're using a webmail account via a web browser such as Hotmail, GMail, Yahoo! Mail, etc., the resident shield will protect you.
Moderators rridgely Posted October 23, 2005 Moderators Share Posted October 23, 2005 etrust monitors inbound emails not outbound ones.(you cant see the scanner though like avg).

Vanguard382
so far ez antiirus is working very nicely. the only problem i find with it is when i start my computer up for the longest time there is an red X on the system tray icon for EZ. i click update and it says everything is up to date but then the red X goes away. I am guessing this is not a problem just checking
