Back in 1971, when Decimal currency was introduced in the UK, one of the clerks at my place of work used to work out the guys wages on a mechanical adding machine.

And if you don't know, before decimalisation, there were 12 shillings to a pound, and 240 pennies to a pound.

The day the new currency came into effect, that amazing little box of tricks was obsolete.

And here it is sitting on my desk 26 years later, still in perfect working order.

These are quite high definition pics, so you can see the detail on the back.

Nice keepsake.

Seeing that video reminded me it was there.

Tell the truth that's your keyboard, it's in front of your monitor and all!:P

Not bad for a wireless keyboard. You should see the mouse!

Dennis they are called comptometers

Lots of info here

also a "pocket size" one near the bottom

Found mine Hazel.

Nice to see it with the cover off. I've been tempted to take a peek inside, but I had visions of cogs and levers suddenly flying all over the place.

Thanks for the link.
