  1. Mostly web browsing, and gaming.
  2. No, I did not already buy it. I'm getting a Dell Inspiron 1501. However depending if I choose "Home and Home Office" or "Small Business" I then have the choice to chose AMD or Intel. For the one under Home and Home Office it came up to $1060 with AMD. Intel seems to be a lot more money.. but from all I have researched, AMD seems to have a better "bang for the buck". EDIT: If I were to get Intel, I would spend the extra money and get the highest upgrade they offer (2.0GHz) as I am with the AMD.
  3. The sad thing is the laptop I am getting comes with an ATI video card.
  4. Wow, I really thought more people would say AMD.
  5. I'm finally getting my new laptop (within 2 weeks or so). Another issue I came across was should I get AMD or Intel? Comments and views on the topic are greatly appreciated.
  6. I've seen that page before, and it doesn't help. Like you should be able to uncheck the box in add/remove components after you unhide it, but it won't let me for some reason.
  7. Hey everyone. I just got a new hd, and I had to format. I forgot how to remove and disable messenger. I then remembered to unhide all folders, then go to c:windows\inf then open sysoc.inf and change it from "msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,HIDE,7" to "msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,,7", which allows you to see messenger in add/remove components. However it will not let me uncheck the box, any suggestions?
  8. Well I guess I heard wrong then.. which is good in this case. Yes I am aware that they sell select Dell systems with XP, however I have the disk.. so I might as well give Vista a try. Thanks for the information though guys.
  9. Wow, tons of good points brought up. I'm sure I will not like Vista though. I do have a copy of XP Home on hand too. I heard that within this year (before 2008) they will totally stop updating XP.. which leads me to think I should stick with Vista, as it will be more secure if they decide to stop updating XP.
  10. Yeah, I'm sure it comes with Vista Home (I do have the choice to get Premium though, or Business). I just have heard some bad things about Vista. However, I never use all that extra junk (as I call it) Microsoft adds. I will try Vista Home to see if I like it though.
  11. It's actually somewhat high end. It has 2GB of RAM, dual core AMD processor and 120GB HD. I could upgrade the Vista, however why would I upgrade it if I hate it as it is. Yeah, I was thinking try it, and if I don't like it buy XP Home. Thanks for the input though.
  12. Hey everyone, I'm going to order a laptop.. and however (as I'm sure you all know by now), you can't really buy a computer without Vista. Right now I have XP Home because I like it a lot more than any of the other XP's. The laptop I'm getting has Vista Home Basic. I was told by my friend that it is basically like XP Home, but a little more RAM usage. Part of the reason I don't like Vista is the fact that there is so much stuff that's on it that I will not use. I like XP Home because on a fresh install, It literally has nothing.. which I like (as well as the low RAM usage). I was told that even Vista Home is loaded with useless junk. What are your opinions on this topic?
  13. I just scanned, and having the short attention span that I have.. I clicked out of what I wanted to see (and I don't feel like running another scan to find it), but when I scanned with AVG Anti-Virus it said that two .dll files were changed. I think it was like user.dll and system32.dll? These could be wrong.. but that really isn't the point. It was two system .dll files that had been "changed" according to AVG. I could not quarantine them however.. so I don't know what I should do. This has never happened before, and as I'm pretty sure this is not a threat I would like to know if anyone has an explanation. Thanks!
  14. I have been using Ad-Aware and Spybot for quite some time now (along with SpywareBlaster). I have AVG for my anti-virus, and then the Windows firewall.. along with my router's firewall. With these programs I have never had any problems. I can almost 100% assure I will not have anything go wrong. Watch what websites you surf, and what you download.. and I can promise you will not need any new fancy anti-spyware programs. These have done me fine for some years now.. and I don't intend on changing anytime soon.
  15. Ugh, call me stupid.. but I'm not seeing the .exe file download.
  16. I was wondering if inside my case.. 91 degrees fahrenheit would be too hot. Also here is my fan setup.. I have a fan on the side pushing air in.. and a fan on the top taking air out (of the case). Also I have an exhaust fan in the back taking air out (inside of the case in the back). My power supply also has 3 fans on it.. one in the back, one on the bottom, and one on the front. I know the back one pushes out air (working like an exhaust) but I don't know about the other two. My processor is to the right of the fan blowing in air (on the side of the case).. so it should be cool. My question is why would my computer be this hot? EDIT: This should be in hardware, excuse my stupidity.
  17. It's an Emachines.. I think the model is the Eview1734, or something like that. I don't see the model on it, so I'm going by memory.
  18. Ah yes.. went into the BIOS and changed my AGP setting from 8x, to 4x.. and the problem was solved.
  19. I just had to turn my AGP slot to 4x instead of 8x.
