  1. In a recent bad move from the developers of the Crap Cleaner (CCleaner) software they have started to bundle Yahoo! Toolbar. Many long time users, pc technicians, and even new users have been complaining about the recent addition of the Yahoo! Toolbar. With the inclusion of the toolbar the download size has more than doubled.

But this is not going without notice. Earlier today Softpedia revoked CCleaner's 100% Clean (No Spyware, No Adware, No Viruses) award. The Softpedia staff explain the reason for the removal of the award in clear red letters to warn users who may wish to download the software.

CCleaner now contains Yahoo! toolbar, therefore the award has been removed and the program marked as adware.

Perhaps the loss of the Softpedia award and the outcries of the users will help the developers of CCleaner to remove the toolbar and better listen to their users. Do you think the developers of CCleaner will listen? No. After taking over three months to solve a simple bug that was wiping out settings for MSN Messenger despite a solution being posted on their forums, the removal of the toolbar more than likely won't be a top priority on their list either.

  2. Many users agree with you, especially techs. Crap Cleaner now comes with crap.

They have builds they are without the toolbar; but that took "hours" to deploy and is rather hidden.

My Anti-Malware packages do not have the toolbar, and any time I link to CCleaner it will be for the version without the toolbar.

  3. It's registry based, unfortunately. All of the OCX are Visual Basic files, thus making CCleaner dependant on them. CCleaner could be a lot better as a Delphi application and strictly using *.ini settings; this could maximize portability. With the addition of the toolbar, CCleaner is going downhill.

Here's the key to export for the settings.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VB and VBA Program Settings\CCleaner

  4. And before you ask the alternative builds will be out in a few hours time... ;)

And just why does it take "a few hours"?

Should take a matter of minutes. I've compiled many setup applications and they take minutes to do. Hours is a rather lame excuse to get people to download a version with a toolbar to make a few bucks.

Better yet, remove the toolbar completely.

  5. Tarun - Keep your chin up, and your health good to defeat something else from entering the picture. I feel sure that my past habits contributes to my condition. The best to you.

Thank you, and same to you. :D

I've noticed that I am terrible in math. I can quickly learn English and am as picky as DjLizard about things of that nature. Give me a computer and I feel like I can do anything. :D

  6. Metallica got worse instead of better, but people still paid scads of $$$ to see them live. What a rip-off. I think it should be called price gouging, :P

The only thing getting worse is your constant posts. I believe Forum Nuisance is a nice title for you. Resurrecting old threads, not taking the hints from mods, flaming members, not taking the hint from plain english messages that tell you what to avoid doing.

  7. Tarum you must be young, or maybe just younger! I'm a senior Senior, and about two years ago I had a stroke that impaired my "short term memory" which is a real bummer. It's very difficult for me to learn anything new as I have trouble retaining what I've learned.

If this makes no sense, ask someone with a knowledge of Strokes to tell you how a Short Term Memory Lose affect a person. Should you have wondered, I'm pushing 72.

25 years of age, 26 a little later this year. I have ADHD and a few memory issues myself due to a birth trauma and the ADHD.

  8. The best thing to do would be to offer the main download without the toolbar, and the secondary as one with the optional toolbar if you must have it.

If you want browser integration, why not just make it so you can add a small button to IE instead of this bloated toolbar? Could even make a CCleaner *.xpi for Firefox and Mozilla browsers.

  9. Thanks for the reply. I think the answer to your question, "Why didn't you Like----," is that I'm an Old Coot that has used IE for so long that something new like FF is another learning experience that I don't wish to take. I've used IE since the Win 95 days, finally learned it.

Don't be mistaken by my comment. I've used FF and am sure it's a good browser. This old brain is trained to IE and FF is different I think you would agree.

I tried IE 7 Beta to see how it worked. It will be fine I think when they get the bugs out.

    Again, thanks for the reply.

Would you believe Firefox is easier to learn than IE?
