Very good topic . ( for Me anyway.) I just swithched ISP,s. & am eveidently stuck with outlook express. & its causing Me a lot of grief. I cant send email to My Sis , without replying to one of Hers. But I receive Hers Ok,. also I belong to some kustom auto painting boards. & tryed to update My profile with the new email addy. Now I cant get in them cuz I never received the verification #,s . & when I try to open a new account it says my email is allready being used. I,ve used hotmail before but had problems with them. I have no Idea what gmail is, but have been offered to be listed or something any ideas. I,m not trying to change this thread by any means. it just seemed like a good place to post this. Thanks. Just when I thought I couldn,t POSSIBLY be any dumber. I proved myself wrong again. I have to assume the @vcmails I put in was just a sample address. I deleted it & added myname@cpu-net.net & Walla. it works. Now I can tell the old ISP how I really feel. Thanks again to all. I think I,m down to one more stupid question. I will post a new topic. I only used firefox ( I assume kinda like opera )for a short time & had to open My favorites from IE to add them to firefox. theres probably an easier way but I just opened the links one by one & added them to firefox favorites. Anyway I guess You allready figured that out. lol . Cowboy

Hey hazelnut. I was looking under all I guess. 4 of them are under directory service. #1 active directory. #2 Bigfoot internet. #3 verisign internet. #4 whowhere internet . All show local internet network. & I have never used any of these. any idea what or where They came from & if I can remove them ? The only mail I have now is. listed as. vcmails.com - mail (default ) using dialer. As far as I know I dont even have a dialer. also when My ISP sent Me my user name, password, & email addy. it says myname@cpu-net.net. When I got to there sight They say to use vcmails.com. at least thats whats in those pics. Also I cant find the exact little setup windows like they say outlook express is supposed to have. I have windows home xp sp2. I have never used outlook express before but it shows 4 different & 5 of the same carriers in that box . Should and can I delete those & start over. thanks. Cowboy

Hey sniper, its cpu-net.net. I think I did what you said and evrything seems to be set right. but it shows like 8 different providers in there . should I just delete all those & start over. Ok All. I am not sure what i did or how to fix it. I,m perty rattle brained ( as ussuall ). Bottom line. Netzero was the ONLY problem I had. I,m only keeping it because it,s the only chance for Me to get email out. & the puter only freezes when I have netzero enabled. My new ISP ( which I love allready ) has set its mail to outlook express, I can receive email, but cannot send it. it says My user name or password is invalid.error 619) . When I try to email there tech support from net zero to resolve the matter. It refuses to send the mail. Go Figure. I phoned the tech support & They helped Me set up the connection, yesterday without downloading anything but there accelerator. But I cant get everything connected to the same place. as in when I get a connection. I have to go to start & click on internet. It just shows a blue screen with a error sign on the bottom. Thats no problem. I can click on My favorites. or do a google search very quickly. Then to open email I have to click on outlook express. It brings up the log on square which is set up exactly like they show on theyre website. I click OK & it continually keeps popping back up until it shows the error. Then I can read the mail. but can,t send it. I have used hotmail before & dont like it. but I really need to be able to mail out without using netzero. Is there any safe options that could make things much simpler ? I,m not trying to write a book, just providing as much info as possible. There phone tech support is tollfree. but closed on the weekends. Thanks again for any suggestions And Your time. But mostly I cant beleive this is how a computer is supposed to work, & I,ve been fighting it for SO long thinking it was this or that. I know have all My protection enabled & windows updates turned back on, & even though the connection speed is not a whole lot faster. It sure seems like it to Me. Thanks again. Cowboy. P.S I have also got involved in a class action suit against The old ISP , as of yesterday along with what appears to be 1000,s of others. Not to worry Mike, its a false positive. if you installed it with the yahoo toolbar that might be what redlighted it. But i doubt it. & Mrg Is aware of the problem. & am perty sure contacted the people at spydocter to resolve the problem. good luck . Cowboy

Ok, once again thanks to all. But , once again I,m going to consider this particular problem resolved. & I will start a new topic in the lounge area. if thats OK. It appears to be fixed. But I,m really going to need some help setting up new Email, & figuring away to make things seem more normal to Me. I got tech support from cpu-net, & They showed Me how to set up a network, with NO software. Like You said before Andavari. Plus i was able to run HD Tune.& No problems. Thankyou. & iffen it wasn,t for Hazelnut, s links I wouldn,t have found the new provider I have, Thankyou so Much. You All have been very helpfull & I cant tell You how much I appreaciate it, krit86lr,Tarq57,rigeley, Res45, Mike, woody, Glenn, & Andy. & . Oh yea. Hey All. its been a rough morning, going on My 30th crash in 8 hours. netzeros bombarding with movie type adds everytime I try to connect. Yes Krit86lr. I signed up for cpu-net. this morning. its supposed to be much faster & a very small download, After I paid for it online. the puter crashed before I could download it. so here I am again. But at least They have free tech advise & hopefully will send what I need to My email. I,ll let Ya,ll know. & thanks hazelnut, very nice read. makes me feel much better to know I,m not crazy, alsi it linked Me to where I could see what was much better. thanks to all. & Andavari Quit Yer wining. hehe We had thunder snow yesterday. 3 inches per hour, 50 mph north winds, with thunder & lightning. OK , Andavari, I know Youre more familiar with My problem then most. & thanks for all of your help & suggestions. But, I have done everything Everyone has suggested. ran every test I can think of. & nothing shows any hardware problems, virus, spyware or anything else. This puter is about a year or 2 old. The only reason I had a problem to begin with, was The Guy put a pirated copy of windows XP Pro, on it. I never hada freeze. & only had virus or spyware problems. at the begining because I . was EVEN dumber than I am now. & purchased No-Adware, online. which was full of trojans , dialers, & spyware. Thanks to Andy Manchesta, I was able to resolve those problems. THEN. I tryed to do windows updates, & within a matter of a few hours I got the blue screen of death. & was perty much called a liar, when I explained what caused it. ( Thanks Tarun & Bill Gates, AKA , windows genuine authentication update. ) I then bought windows home XP, SP2, Did a clean install, then put my netzero disk in so I could update windows, & have had freezing problems ever since. I have disabled net zeros turbocache. & found a way to block there ads, that constantly disconneceted Me when They wanted to force feed them to Me. Then They called Me at home , computer generated ads to do this or that. I have since changed My phone #, & now receive 2 or 3 emails daily from them , ( early morning only ) which I never open just delete. This starts the crashes. Mostley if I do anything with My mail. Like when I get a ccleaner notifacation, someone responded, I click to open that & instant freeze. So I guess My point is Why everybody is discounting the fact, THIS could be My ONLY problem. I know it sucks, but at this point I have no other options but net *****************. I,m sorry I,m rambling, venting or whatever. but It really sucks when Your paying 14.95 a month for the worse virus & spyware. I couldn,t catch on purpose if I wanted to. Anyway, I appologise thanks for letting Me vent, & hopefully this piece of chit will crash before I get this sent. Thanks to all for Your help. Sincerely Cowboy.

Allrighty then,Krit86lr & All . I ran the memory test ( around 150 passes or so. then rebooted & did the more complex one. ( For lack of a better word ) total around 5 hours. with both. NO errors found. Do I need to do it for the full 8 hours?( cuz i sit here babysitting thru the whole test) . Just so I could see what it did , Or found. Anyway, once again I,m lost. what else could it be ? other than doing the clean install. ( which I,m holding off on,) till I get something other than Netzero. Because I want NO trace of it on the puter ,if I have to go thru all the windows updates again. Thanks for your help once again. Cowboy

OK, 3 freezes in 15 minutes again this morning. & Krit Your right I,ve never run that type of memory test. # 1 I,m to friggen stupid, #2 I cant keep the damn thing from freezing when I get in the middle of something like that. I click on the link You provided & it freezes. Ok, Now heres what it shows. Total page file size. 336MB. virtual memory, C-336-672 , Space available, 74571 MB , Custom size is checked with a green dot, Initial 336MB, Maximum, 672 MB, Total minimum 2MB, recomended, 333MB, currently, 336MB, & I have not added more memory, But it came with 512 ram, What next & thanks For trying to help, ALL of You, Cowboy

Hey Krit86lr, I,ve allready run every test possible. No problems anywhere. I see pagefile in TM but dont know where to look for how or where its set. But no more freezes since I made that last change. Just waiting to see. Thanks. I,ll do some more looking. Cowboy

Hey Tarq57. Thanks I,m trying what you suggested. I have 512mb memory I believe. but it only shows 222mb, not really sure why, but pcpitstop tests said it wasn,t a problem. & intel celeron 3.06GHs. in task mgr it shows ( physical memory 227760- kernel memory 42592 ) & cpu usage runs about 6% unless netzero is doing its thing. Is this the info You wanted ? I had 3 freezes in 15 minutes, very unusuall & since I disabled VRDB & No problems as of yet, But But I thought it was fixed several hundred times so we,ll see. thanks again & I,ll let You know. I,ve got the older version. (Thanks Res45) & after a few days and a little help EVEN I was able to back up all My stuff to CD-R,s, took Me awhile cuz I kept trying to burn DVD,S . Duh . Anyway I think it,s great but never used anything else. Cowboy

Andavari, I assume when You say standard that means the level of security which is set all the way to the left ( Normal ) thats where I left it, & is the only kinda setting I can find. Tarq57, Yes windows is validated, no problem getting the updates , I just do them manually. The freezing problem is very random . And is more than likely caused by NetZero, My Isp. I opened task mgr & watch it constantly. about 15 minutes out of every hour netzero uses 100% memory or whatever the hell it is. & if it happens to happen at the same time Avasts little ball is spinning at the bottom instant freeze. Theres 24 startup items All necesary . I had the experts from this site ( Thanks Andy )look at the pcpitstop tests & all was fine exept connection speed . I have superantispyware, spywareblaster, Ccleaner, Avast , & windows firewall, So I dont beleive I have to much. All are updated & ran daily If needed I have all kinds of store bought security apps i can use by installing the disk,s & updating , But I wont do it till needed. OK all, I still have very seldom freezing problems. after reading a few comments from Riggely & Andavari about disabling some of the less needed scanners. & setting it to standard scanning. I have disabled all but standard, I now only have 1 scanner running out of 7 , Am I still protected ? with just the standard scans. Or am I all confused as of what was meant. I just did this and not sure if its cured my problem , But want to make sure i,m covered. Also the few times it froze it did it during the little blue ball in the bottom tray started spinning. I hope this makes sence & appreaciate any advise. Thanks to All. Cowboy

OK ALL, thanks for your replys, just wanted to update you. But first off as I said in several posts before , I,ve ran every possible test, including memory, hardrives & everything else I can think of. At first I thought AVG was causing it because it conficted with My ISP, allthough it did help some when I changed to AVAST , the freezing continued. I have allways thought it was WGA connected somehow, And Am now convinced it was. As I said the only thing that showed in My error logs at the exact time of freezes was windows security related, I beleive it was calling home. I completely shutoff windows auto updates. Then went to tools, then internet options, then advanced, scrolled down to security & unchecked ( enable windows authentication ) & have not had a freeze in 3 days. Just thought I,d let You know, That I wasn,t crazy & it is now fixed without having to do a clean install. Thanks again. Cowboy. Once again ThankYou Andavari & All others for Your advice. & no I cant do a repair install , cuz it keeps freezing in the middle of trying. Now I cant even run the windows live onecare that some has suggested. Because the site is blocked From My Windows security, Yea figure that one out. The only thing that shows up in My error logs are to do with auto notification to do with WGA, I know I said that was My original problem when I had a pirated version ( by no fault of mine ) But it will not leave Me alone. At least this time I can have, Antivirus & antispyware protection before I even try to update there C##p again. Thanks To Res45, that helped me burn the cd,s, . So hopefully this will do it. I just wanted to make sure a clean install meant exactly that. Cuz I,m sick of this & sick of WGA, & if it happens again I,ll go back to using snail mail for My family contacts & use this for target practice, I,m sorry but I,m really frustated But once again thanks for everyone on this site that has been patient with my stupid questions. I need some advice again. still having freezing problems. so I,m gonna start from scratch. Do I need to uninstall everything in My install control panel ? or will a clean install automaticly blank out the hardrive. I have all of My AVg,s & anti spyware stuff burnt to cd,s so hopefully nothing can sneak in when I have to reupdate windows. Am I making any sense ? Thanks for any advise. Cowboy. P.S at the time of freezes the ONLY thing that shows in the error logs are windows security issues . reading. An Authentication package has been loaded by the local security authority. Ok , thanks again. I uninstalled AVG, & installed Avast, & all seems fine. I just wanted to mention , I dont think theres anything wrong with AVG 7.5, it just appears to have a confict with My ISP, ( netzero ), As it,s even working properly now.
