Thanks for the explanation. I'm seeing no problem with the free version, so I'll leave 6.18 installed.

I downloaded & installed 6.18 on Nov. 15. Is there a problem that I should go back to 6.17? I have all the older versions SLIM files.

21H2 offered in Win Updates and installed here last night.
Quick and painless.
(The update was hiding under 'View Optional Updates')
Same for me on my 2 systems. Offered & installed quickly. No problems.

Or it could be worse than Win10.
Win10 was supposedly one of their good OSes, however remember their overall OS history:
Good, Bad, Good, Bad..... ...etc.I'll be staying with Win10 (for now) for exactly that reason. I've never liked being on the bleeding edge of technology.

That's the kind of issue I was wondering about. I think I'll leave it unchecked for now until I better understand what gets cleaned.

The "Important Update" is only available for versions from 5.50-5.73. 5.74 and above use the "Automatic Updates" process. But both have settings for people who want to do their updates manually via the website and/or not receive notifications. I'll open this up for investigation to check if this is a 5.75 bug re the notifications or a client configuration issue of some sort.
Thanks Dave.

That's why I didn't use hostman years ago. How do I disable that "feature?"
Also, the hostman version on the MVPS website is: HostsMan_4.7.105.zip
I found that I had an old saved copy from 2019 that is a later version: HostsMan_4.8.106_installer.zip
I'm not sure which to use.

Staying at v5.73 for the time being.

Strange. I tried to update using HostsXpert like usual and I get an error that says it cannot connect to the website. I'll have to try again later.

Correct. I guess it's a good time for people with bookmarks that are saved to spend a few minutes tidying them up, for instance make sure they use the secure "https://" and that the sites actually still work after changing them, some sites still use the insecure "http://".
Yup. I wondered what happened to the "old" forum and Google led me here. Updated the bookmark.

FWIW Mozilla just told us it will use Rust directly within Firefox rather than in a separate Servo project: "Going forward, we will be writing many new browser components in Rust directly in Firefox rather than in a separate project."

Got it. Thanks for keeping me up to date @hazelnut
HostsXpert still working on Windows 10 1909. I haven't updated to 2004 yet, so...
-
Keeping my fingers crossed that HostsXpert continues to work.

Thanks for the reminder @hazelnut Got it downloaded & installed.

I'm holding off after reading this zdnet article:

After reading this zdnet article, I will NOT be installing Windows 10 2004 even though it's sitting on my PCs ready to be downloaded and installed.
Windows 10 January update fails on KB5034441 with error 0x80070643

It installed on one of my Win10 PCs, but failed on the other one. Once I read what the cause of the problem was, I used AOMEI Partition Assistant which I had bought years ago to resize the partitions and increased the recovery partition enough so that the update would install.
But I agree that this would be an impossible work around for a non-techie user to figure out. Messing around with partitions is very risky if you don't know what you are doing. About as dangerous as editing the Registry.
