You are right.
The key to detect Spybot S&D is no longer:
HKCU\Software\PepiMK Software\SpybotSnD
It's changed as follow:
HKCU\Software\Safer Networking Limited\SpybotSnD

I've been use CCleaner for the past 2 years but I've never seen any check marks on Startup items on any version. It just shows the list, you select one and hit the Delete Entry button. Or is this something I can't see on Win98SE?
It's a new feature of the very latest version 2.0.8.588:
Before was possible only perform a deletion of any startup entry, and this action can't be undone.
Now they can also be disabled (and then, if needed, re-enabled) simply unchecking/checking their checkboxes.
-
I upgraded to the latest Crap Cleaner. I tried to use the add remove from startup feature. Firstly it wouldn't prompt me
if I want to remove it.
Options > Advanced. If checked, untick the option 'Hide warning messages'.
Secondly there is a problem with the check marks. Instead of removing the ones I selected, it removed all of the items from startup. I went back to the previous version with no problems.I'm using Windows XP Home SP3.AFAIK it does remove the selected entry only.
Pressing the 'Delete Entry' button having no entries selected then nothing happens, at least here
To be clear, for 'selected' i mean highlighted, doesn't matter if the checkboxes are checked or unchecked.

- Added Startup tool enable/disable checkbox.
This is a great improvement, thanks!
IMO is worth to explain how it does work.
To deactivate a Startup entry without delete it, then simply untick
its checkbox and exit CCleaner. No needs to press any other button.

Hi,
don't know Avant Browser, however notice that, as in most "IE based" browsers,
all the... crap to clean is shared with IE. Temporary Internet Files, Cookies, Index.dat file, etc...
So just check the Internet Explorer section of CCleaner to delete all this stuff.

Let's take, as sample, Windows Movie Maker.
This is its entry in winapp.ini
[Windows Movie Maker]
LangSecRef=3023
Detect=HKCU\Software\Microsoft\MovieMaker
Default=True
FileKey1=%localappdata%\Microsoft\Movie Maker|MEDIATAB0.DAT
(Note: I need to replace 'MovieMaker' with 'MM20' to get it detected by CCleaner,
at least on my system. And this is impossible since winapp.ini have been encoded in CCleaner.exe.
However, is still possible bypass this issue adding the entry to winapp2.ini)
Now my question is:
How CCleaner could clean the MEDIATAB0.dat file, if the %localappdata% path is unknown?
(in my case it's: C:\Documents and Settings\MyName\Impostazioni locali\Dati applicazioni\Microsoft\Movie Maker\MEDIATAB0.DAT)
-
It fails the same for me in XP Pro.
Go to Start then type cmd and in the Window type set to see what environment variable are set.
Thanks for your reply
On my s.o. i create the new variable as follow:
Right click My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Environment Variables > New
Name: CommonAppData
Path: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Dati applicazioni
(this is 'Application Data' for me)
Just wondering if many CCleaner malfunctions are due to this issue.
On my system some application were not cleaned at all before this tweak
(eg. Avira Antivir Free 8).
%LocalAppData% was missing as well, here
(however this one seems not so often used by CCleaner)
-
Is it possible that this environment variable used by CCleaner is missing in some systems?
On mine (WinXp Pro SP2 italian localized) it was missing indeed...
To check it out, just use Start > Run, type '%commonappdata%' (without quotes) > OK
If this does open a system folder all is fine, if returns a 'not found' error must create it.
Please anyone can confirm?
Bump!

Seems i'm not the only one having this issue:

There have been a few reports about this matter, I'm guessing they may have changed the registry path. I will look into the matter.
Hi TwistedMetal,
Most likely the Pro version is registered as "Avira" (not sure)
and the Personal Classic as "H+BEDV" (sure, it's installed on my machine)
-
Ciao
Today I have installed the new version and noticed a little bug:
when I run more times "Run Cleaner" , in up of program appears ALWAYS "2.23MB removed" even if in "IE Temporary Internet Files" folder, the files are correctly deleted.
Ciao.
Sorry can't confirm. The second scan find 0 byte to remove here
Just a though, try to make a complete cache cleaning using the IE Tool.
Strumenti > Opzioni Internet > Generale > Elimina > Elimina tutto
(e spunta anche 'Elimina file e Impostazioni memorizzati da componenti aggiuntivi)
Then run CCleaner again
Hope this helps
Note: Win XP Pro SP2 fully patched + IE 7 here

Sorry, perhaps there is something wrong or outdated on my machine, but to get
CCleaner detecting Avira Antivir Personal Edition i must give this path to winapp.ini
Detect=HKLM\SOFTWARE\H+BEDV\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic V 7
not
Detect=HKLM\SOFTWARE\Avira\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic

Short and simple: Leave all disabled by default.
Just my two cents

Thanks !
Very fast indeed, and works flawlessy

Ok, I did what you said, so now I know the 'recover' buttton can be made active afterall. But I still ahven't dound any of the pics. Beside the
'scan' button is a box with an arrow. When I click on the arrow, there're two choices or two naes that are shown: Loca Disk ?; and
Presario_RP (D:). I was hoping that 'Pictures' wpuld be one of the options. And when I click on either choice and then click on scan, it finds a few things. I don't even know what they are. I don't need those things. I end up deleting them. Can someone pls help me?? I just want my pictures back, but I don't know how to go about in serching for them.
You cannot do a "looking for pictures only" scan.
- Select the drive where your pictures were saved (C: or D:)
- Perform a scan
- Then every type of deleted file will be shown in the list.
- In order to search pictures files only, you need to filter by extension
that file list, writing in the box jpg, or gif, or png, or bmp, or whatever
type of image file are you trying to recover.
Please have a look to the beginner guide, pinned at the top of this page

I just downloaded Recuva, but I think there's something wrong. I'm trying to recover deleted pictures. When I click on the Recuva icon on my desktop, a box comes up. In the box, I can only click on 'scan' and 'options.' The 'recover' button does not work.
Hi,
obviously the 'Recover' button will be active after a scan only, and
selecting some object in the list, since before there is nothing to recover.

So guys!!!!!! ....what miracle must happen to resolve this problem .....????
Sorry, no idea.
To be clear, anything happening to your computer (wrong CCleaner actions, viruses, fire, and so on) can't affect in
any way your webmails, that are stored on the remote server of your provider (let's say it's just like an other computer)
So, for what is in my (poor) skills...
1) Some issue of Yahoo Mail (very rare)
2) You have deleted your mails by mistake (in this case they should be recoverable from the remote recycle bin)
3) Someone have stolen (or hacked) your passwords, and have deleted everything.
Another "what setting" question, please
in CCleaner

Untick 'Autocomplete Form History' in the Windows tab, under Internet Explorer options.
