  1. The normal behavior is that index.dat files appears as "marked for deletion" in CCleaner logs.

Ths doesn't happens in my case :(

This really will drive us crazy (i mean both, me and CCleaner :D)

    Using Windows Clean Disk feature

(right click Drive > Properties > Clean Disk > Temporary Internet Files > View files) i can

see an index.dat file (size 944Kb) saved in this path: G:\Cache\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5.

Using Windows File Search it doesn't find this file at all

It find only another index.dat file (size 32Kb) saved in the Cookies folder.

Of course "hide system and hidden files" feature is disabled.

    :o

  2. OK I feel like an idiot here. Ignore my reported issue.

The index.bat file is cleaned/removed upon next reboot as noted in another thread elsewhere in this forum.

I guess somewhere along the line I missed that fact.

The normal behavior is that index.dat files appears as "marked for deletion" in CCleaner logs.

Ths doesn't happens in my case :(

  3. Starting from 1.39.502 version, CCleaner still doesn't detect/delete

my index.dat files, as i've reported in some previous posts :(

Maybe this is due to some "not default" config of my Win XP

(i like to keep all my Temporary Internet Files in a separate partition

of my HD), but can't realize why some other cleaning applications i've tried

can still detect, read and delete my index.dat files with no problems.

    Thanks :)

    Edit:

Win XP Pro SP2 fully patched

    IE Version: 7.0.5730.11

  4. Hello, my system registery was cleaned out by accident. I was using the uninstaller and did not back it up and now when i go to my add and remove program list all of them are gone. Is there anyway to repair this? By the way I have windows xp. Also I have the same issues that Raghu had but my version is registered.

Sorry, AFAIK there is no way to repair this. :(

However, for your information, CCleaner delete the uninstallers only, not the Updates.

In other words, you loose the ability to uninstall some WindowsUpdates, not the Updates

themselves, that are still installed and working on your system. But of course they don't

    appears anymore in Add/Remove list.

  5. Mr. G. I love you're product. It would be nice to have a feature on CCleaner that shows how much space was saved kind of like a counter of some sort and as the product is updated every month or so on it shows how effective you're product has made the computer run etc :rolleyes: .

Sorry, but IMO this does't make any sense.

Recovering eg. 10 Mb today and 10 Mb tomorrow,

CCleaner have saved 10 Mb two times, not 20 Mb

    :)

  6. Hi,

You can mirror the Standard installer, but not the Basic or Slim versions.

    Regards

    MrG

    Hi MrG,

since we are in this topis, i'm the italian translator of CCleaner, and i've translated as well some

CCleaner webpages (Quick Tour, FAQs, Features... ). The download is directly linked to the official

english Piriform website, i don't host any executable.

What i've made is visible here

    My Personal Website

    (click CCleaner Quick Tour)

I've asked on the forum sometime ago about this, getting no answers :(

Please let me know if this is fine for you (i don't want break any rule, copyrights, etc...)

If not, of course i'll immediately delete all this stuff.

Also, if you like, i can send you the whole translated package.

    Thanks :)

  7. Where can I find CCleaner log?

I mean in the blank space just above the "Analyze" and "Run Cleaner... "

buttons, where CCleaner shows all the crap candidate for deletion.

Today I found a useful program (Mil Shield) that removed data from index.dat without ask me to log off or log in as a particular user (my default user has administrator rights). So I realized that is possible to clean (not delete) index.dat with Windows XP running.

Yes, i've read about some tricks to do this :)

  8. These files used to be visable in explorer on my PC. I thought they vanished after updating to IE7. However, I dont think this is the case, it appears to be connected with cleaning the index.dat files with CCleaner.

    Must confirm also this :(

My index.dat file currently is not detected/cleaned, starting from previous

version of CCleaner, as i've reported in some other threads.

  9. Try:

    Go to the directory:

    C:\Documents and Settings\UserNameHere\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\

And type Content.IE5 into the address bar.

The directory may be super hidden on like in the old Win98 days.

Even with "Show Hidden files" checked and "Hid Protected Operating System Files" unchecked .

So it may still be there....

I can confirm this behaviour. Right clicking > Properties on my Temporary Internet Files folder

it contains 5 subfolders (Content.IE5 + 4 random named subfolders, as usual). But these folders

are always hidden for Windows Explorer, even unhiding all system files by default. They can be

visualized only thru Windows Disk Cleaner > Clean Disk > Show Files, or (and this is pretty strange)

    browsing the directory using Winrar.

  10. In the advanced settings, options menu, the first option is: Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours. Is there any reason why I should NOT delete these files? I ran CCleaner with this box unchecked after running it with it checked, to see what files it would find, but since I'm new to this I wasn't sure and thought I should ask first. If anyone could help me out I'd appreciate it, thanks!

    Hi,

some application installers save their files in a Temp folder, and those files are needed at restart.

Deleting them immediately may cause corrupted and/or incomplete installs. 48 hours is considered

a reasonable delay for delete them without cause any problem.

    :)

  11. yes but firewall can be translated as muro di fuoco but in this case it can be left like firewall or mouse. Also I left font but would allow also to add us of the parentheses who say (Characters).

tomorrow you will have new the rows translate in Italian (re-translated again). In fact I of usual when I translate one what before them stamp and then translate from English the Italian.

Please see this screenshot, taken from my ITALIAN localized WinXP version.

    fontswl0.th.jpg

My programs are stored in the "Programmi" folder (not "Program Files"),

my Fonts are stored in a folder called "Fonts" (not "Caratteri").

    Hope this helps.

    /end thread for me

  12. unfortunately also your job is perfect in fact has left why the translation mine was completely equal to yours. That one of the word font was an example: font he means series of characters but I have put especially Characters (Font). I know that I have copied but the only problem was equal to the translation that I have made. In fact the word translator is much easy one why it must have style but unfortunately it must follow tightens to them exactly in English.

Sorry, i disagree. Sometimes there is no need to translate exactly the original text, "word by word".

"Font" is an example. Eg. "firewall". Everyone using a PC in the world know what is a "firewall".

I know the italian translation is "muro di fuoco", but (fortunately :P) never seen it translated.

Except from french people, but that is an... unique exception. "Windows" itself is an english

word, but who will ever translate it?

Like check that you have said it you try you are not right why check comes defined to control, many translations but not are try. My English is itself very well, but the only second thing me the translation is one what that evolve that it can be improved, the only way is that one to create a group that you succeed to work entirety in order to improve the translation of the software in a generalized manner.

OMG! I hope Piriform will never make such a group! A third translator

will translate in a different third way, and so on... A real Babel !!! :D

Ok, i'm afraid this discussion is pretty boring for other users, so i stop here.

I've tried to explain why my translation is made in this way. Any further suggestion

is welcome, i don't pretend my work is 100% perfect (nothing is, in this world ;) )

    Bye :)

  13. If we clean Internet Cache and History with common methods, we don't clean them, but only make them not readable by browsers. Try using "Index.Dat Viewer" (http://www.scanraid.com/indexdat.htm) and see.

I'd like a CCleaner version which could really wash history, inside index.dat.

    Bye!

    Hi,

i suppose you know that index.dat files are deleted only after a computer reboot.

May i ask if you view index.dat file as "Marked for deletion" in CCleaner log?

  14. yes many years i have translated a module of php of website.

translated in english => italian and italian=>english.

Ah, so you are AN italian translator.

    Nice to meet you... ;)

  15. font = carattere (ho serie di caratteri) (font)

cerca gli aggiornamenti adesso = controlla gli aggiornamenti online adesso

    Clicca xxxx = clicca qui

(3 changes because don't know the word for example: salva file testo = salve in un file di testo.

because the english has a phrases.

I have only improved the translation.

No sorry, you have simply stolen my work, adding to it some bad things i completely disagree :)

Let me say, translate software is not exactly like translate... a book.

The first rule is to shorter every sentence as possible. Keeping the right sense, of course.

"Font" is international computer language, just like "hard disk" or "mouse" or "scanner" or "webcam".

There is no need to translate such a word. What's the point translating "font" in "carattere (font)"?

"Font" is perfectly understandable for italian people, and is shorter. Also, when you try to make translations,

take a look how every sentence fit in the application field. Eg. you have translated "Fix selected issues... "

    > "Ripara i problemi selezionati...". This is perfectly correct italian language, but in that way the caption

doesn't fit in the button. Very bad result, the worst that can happen in translations, IMNSHO.

My translation is "Ripara selezionati..." (eng. "Fix selected..."). The sense is perfectly understandable

(since we are in the Issues section of CCleaner) and the caption fits nice in the button (one row only). :)

Also, you have added "here" to "Click HERE to check for updates". What's the point?

Of course user will click _HERE_, since this sentence is located in a mouseover tooltip.

"Click to check for updates" is totally understandable, but shorter (and more... stylish too). :)

Let me kindly ask a last thing.

Never go in a forum saying "i'm THE italian translator". Maybe you're AN italian translator.

Hope your english is good enough for understand what's the difference :)

Note: I've put smiles everywhere, since Piriform website says

most people in here is friendly :P , but i'm very disappointed. :(

  16. sorry new update

    Hi,

I'm the italian translator of CCleaner since a couple of years.

Just downloaded your .dll but can't find nothing different or new.

May you please specify which words are missing and/or which phrases are incorrect?

    Thanks :)

  17. What kind of Startup entry is it, and how did you delete it?

Reinstalling the software in question would be one way.

However, IMO a builded-in backup and/or a "deactivate (without delete)"

feature in CCleaner, for startup entries, would be very appreciate.

    :)

  18. This is a pretty minor issue... but in IE7 in my Favorites list some sites have "icons" (not sure if there is a different name for them - these are the little graphics besides the Favorties name). I actually like these icons as it makes finding certain Favorites easier. When I run CCleaner these icons are wiped.

Anyone know if there is a setting that can be changed to leave these "icons"?

    Thanks.

Those icons are known as "favicons", and AFAIK there is no way for CCleaner to leave them

undeleted, since by default are saved as Temporary Internet Files. The only way i know for

keep the icons is manually copy each icon in some other folder, then give manually the

path for each favorite to the new location (Right click Favorite > Properties > Change icon)

  19. I am using WinXP and IE 7, all with the latest updates and patches.

I have downloaded the latest version of CCleaner, hoping that the previous issue I had with it would be fixed. Well, it looks like again the issue has been ignored by CCleaner.

First of all, the program does not detect or clean Index.DAT files. Even after re-booting my computer after running CCleaner, those files are still there.

I have reported same problem here.

    Forum Link

Since you say "doesn't detect" i assume your index.dat files doesn't appear as "marked for deletion"

in Analyze and/or Run logs. If so, same here :(

  20. A quick search of all files on my system (XP Home) finds 8 index.dat files, none above 76Kb

    My Content.IE5 folder is at:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

And the index.dat there is 32Kb

Wonder that is a "systemprofile" not in use, since i can delete the index.dat file in that path without reboot.

I know my Internet Cache is not keeped in the default location (it is moved in G:\Temporary Internet Files\),

but is my choice and is like this from ages, and has never been a problem for CCleaner. It find and clean all the

other files type in that location (temporary internet, cookies, history, and so on...) but not index.dat ones.

Neither after the latest update to 1.40.520.

  21. Same to me.

    Win 2000 Pro

Analyse process found one index.dat file only - but can't remove it. After rebooting the file is the same (size and the content).

    Can't find the others index.dat'files.

With another app. like MV AntiSpy and Index.dat Suite all the index.dat files are found and deleted. The source'problem can't to be about OS and/or language OS.

Well, making a file search (unhiding all file types, of course) i can find 6 or 7 index.dat

files, in Application Data, Local Settings and System paths. They are all 16 or 32 KB, are

unlocked by the system, and are deletable simply using right click > delete.

The... "good one" is in G:/Temporary Internet Files/Content.IE5 folder,

and currently is about 500Kb or so.

CCleaner Analyze doesn't detect any index.dat file at all, here.
