I just installed 2.00 beta and everything listed under cookies to delete under option is not being deleted at all. Went back to 1.41.544 where it is working correctly.
Jerry
This is what happens to me:
Cookies are deleted (verified looking into the Cookies folder)
but they remain still listed in CCleaner Options > Cookies,
also after deletion.
-
Tried several installs/uninstalls, over previous and also in a new separate folder.
All worked pretty fine
It seems all features are working fine here, just like in 1.41.
My index.dat file still not detected-deleted (just like in 1.41 )

Short question:
I saw a nice feature in the app: foxit pdf reader. So if the user wants a translation, he can pick his language from a scrolldown menu & then the langfile will be downloaded & parsed.
Maybe this could save traffic ... sure, not much, but it's just an idea
greetz SCORPiON
I know how Foxit Reader works (i've translated it as well ).
IMO the current CCleaner system is perfect. It automatically installs default english + current
Windows language. In my opinion this can satisfy 99% of users. Anyway, can be a nice
nice idea make all languages available for download from the Piriform website

Look exactly to the screenshot This is not proper translated
greets
Yes, i know. That was a... work in progress

Before using CCleaner last opened files in Word and Excel appeared in the File drop down box. After installation have to go back to My Documents to open recent files. How do I overcome this problem?
John5
This is not a bug, is a feature
If you don't want Office applications to be cleaned,
then simply untick "Office" in Cleaner > Applications panel.
-
I ask just for be sure.
I suppose will be reccomended to install it from
scratch, not over previous versions. Right ?
-
Hmmmm i think, i'm, too fast
Translated 1.03.100 in german language:
http://www.defcon5.biz/recuva.zip
greetings
Yeah !
Italian version:
[DELETED]
But this can't be an "official" way to translate it, i suppose...
-
Guys, not to rain on your parade, but i don't think Recuva will be translatable very soon
Since currently the english language is builded-in into the executable, and not .dll based
like in CCleaner.

Claudio is a Spanish name, too.
Hola
My Windows 2000 is the English version. The problem is that I started using a custom location for the cache, I think. CCleaner picked the new location automatically, but forgot to give index.dat the special treatment it deserves.C.
Same here. My habit is to keep all temporary internet files in a separate partition of my HD.
CCleaner have always found the new location with no problems, detecting and deleting all crap
as usual. Now (i mean starting from 2 o 3 versions ago) the only file completely missing is index.dat.
I must use another software just for delete the index.dat file, too bad
No idea about this 'special treatment' it deserves
Thanks

I just downloaded CCleaner today and so far it seems very user friendly. However, I think the sluggishness of my computer is due in large part to startup junk. I see how I can use this program to delete it. But i'm not knowledgable enough to know if any of the programs that run with my startup are critical. The files shown are ".exe" files, and Ive heard you shouldn't mess with them unless you really know what you're doing.....WHICH I DON'T. Most of the "keys" for the files are: "HKLM:Run". There are also some that say "HKCU:Run", some are "Startup Common" keys, and one "HKLM:RunOnce" My question is: does CCleaner only list startup files that can safely be removed? Or do I need to know which ones are, and are not, critical to Windows booting up, or other critical files. I'd appreciate any guidance on this.
Thanks
As Twisted Metal said, CCleaner list everything is starting at Windows start. And yes, you must
know exactly which applications can be safely removed before proceed. If unsure, don't do nothing there,
since every change made by CCleaner will be unrecoverable!
As workaround, you can use Windows msconfig dialog box (Start > Run > type 'msconfig' > OK ),
that allow to deactivate (uncheck) each entry, without delete it.
-
[cut]
J:\cache\msie\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\index.dat
but nothing happens after running CCleaner. I understand it's trying to delete the file immediately and obviously it can't and there's no way in this CUSTOM window to tell CCleaner to schedule a deletion at reboot. All deletions are immediate and may fail silently.
Now the question is why CCleaner understood the new IE cache location without manual intervention mine but forgot to apply the proper technique to index.dat; indeed it looks like another bug to me.
C.
Since "Claudio" sounds like an italian name, may i ask where are you from?
I have the same issue with index.dat file since long time, as still reported on this forum.
Wonder if this may be related to Windows versions localized in not-english languages
-
thanks for your reply. This could have wiped out my valued chat history. I wonder if there are other files that should be warned about that could be diaster for some people??
thanks
brad
Who knows what could be "disaster" for some people?
CCleaner clean all what usually is considered "temp" or "temporary",
like applications history, logs, cache, and so on. Of course this doesn't
mean you can't keep your chat history for years, if you like, simply
uncheck all the applications you want CCleaner leave untouched.
Be aware of this: You can run "Analyze" and check what will be deleted.
If unsure about some applications, uncheck them and run "Analyze" again.
Running "Analyze" there is no danger at all, since the deletion is performed
only pressing "Run Cleaner" button.
-
Not if you think about it. A tickbox with "delete files in windows temp folders older than 48 hours" implies that if you don't tick it then files older than 48 hours aren't deleted and that's wrong.
You'r perfectly right, sorry
-
It's still not changed.
How can I change this language error for myself?
You can't. Unless you are able to edit a .dll file.
I don't understand a word of german, but IMO in english
the sentence make sense also without "only"
-
Thanks to everyone over at DL.TV for recommending CCleaner to their viewers. The link below will take you directly to Episode 186, which covers CCleaner and many other new tech topics.
Nice
I'm pretty... obsessed from CCleaner not cleaning anymore my index.dat files.
Am i wrong, or also in that movie Index.dat "marked for deletion" doesn't appears?
I don't remember if that log entry was included in Temp Internet Files, when shown
in not-detailed mode.
TY

Thanks for the advice, I just thought it was possible to empty the recycle bin without opening the full programme
Indeed the recycle bin will be emptied by CCleaner. If the option is activated in CCleaner setup, of course.
(must check 'Empty Recycle Bin' entry in Cleaner dialog box, Tab Windows, Category System)
Then put a file in Recycle Bin, run CCleaner from recycle bin menu, and you will see the effect
, at least that is what is implied on the website, but if you can't see what is happening ie hidden mode then how do you know when it's working / finished?.Trusting in CCleaner
Edit: Seriously, running CCleaner from Recycle Bin menu, users have no way to see what's happening.
For this reason, is reccomended to use this option only when user is enough familiar with the program.
-
Hi I've just downloaded CCleaner and cannot run CCleaner when I right click on the recycle bin. Any suggestions for a new user?
Be aware of this:
Running CCleaner from recycle bin menu, then CCleaner does all the work in... hidden mode.
For bring CCleaner visible must select "Open CCleaner", not Run.

I have AntiVir PE all updated and it's not saying anything.
I can confirm that yesterday, for a while, Antivir was detecting uninst.exe.
Then i have submitted the file to their online scan service and has been confirmed
being a FALSE POSITIVE.
--------------------------
Welcome back, Mr Xxxxx Xxxxx!
A listing of files alongside their results can be found below:
File ID Filename Size (Byte) Result
1113316 uninst.exe 103.41 KB FALSE POSITIVE
The file 'uninst.exe' has been determined to be 'FALSE POSITIVE'. In particular this means that this file is not malicious but a false alarm. Detection is removed from our virus definition file (VDF) with the version: 6.39.0.183.
----------------------------
Currently (just updated Antivir 5 minutes ago) all works
fine. No detections
-
FYI to those who are not aware. BullGuard uses BitDefender as their Anti-virus engine last as I've heard. I am also a BullGuard user & OF COURSE a CCleaner user?
I was getting the same notice. I re-downloaded today & installed with no problems. I also scanned the .exe & the whole CCleaner folder & everything came up clean. Looks like they fixed the false positive. Goody goody.
For everyone information, currently my Avira-Antivir detect uninst.exe
as "infected" by TR/Dldr.Zlob.AAD0.5
I've just submitted the file to their online scan service, and this is the result:
--------------------
The file 'uninst.exe' has been determined to be 'FALSE POSITIVE'. In particular this means that this file is not malicious but a false alarm. Detection will be removed from our virus definition file (VDF) with one of the next updates.
--------------------
This sounds really crazy
Hope they will update their signatures as soon as possible.

Today Avira Antivir PersonalEdition Premium keeps flagging CCleaner\uninst.exe as Trojan Downloader Zlob AADO.5. My question is: why today and not before? I've been using both Avira and CCleaner for some time, never got this warning till now.
Same here (i use Antivir Personal Free Edition)
For your information, it detect as "malaware" also the dialer i'have
in use from ages, for connect my PC to the internet. Just made a report.
Why today and not before? Cause the AV signatures change everytime
Just submitted uninst.exe to Avira.
------------------------------------------
Thank you for your submission. Below you can see the current status of the uploaded files.
A listing of files alongside their results can be found below:
File ID Filename Size (Byte) Result

Please find a detailed report concerning each individual sample below:

Hi there,
Just though I'd let you know that when I tried to download Recuva 1.02.091 Bit Defender would not let me download the file and displayed the message: 'Virus Alert File Infected with Trojan.Downloader.Zlob.AADO'. This happened twice, yesterday and today.
Ideas? Thanks,
MM
Please have a look on this post on CCleaner Forum
Is seems BitDefender have the same identical problem with Recuva (False Positive)
-
It seems to be the same for the source file downloaded on the official site with the name of "ccsetup141.exe"
This is the result of an online scan of uninst.exe i've just done on Virustotal:

To verify it actually exists try opening it in notepad:
Open notepad
Click File / Open
Type G:\Cache\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\index.dat into the filename box see what happens.
It probably wont open anything humanly readable.
In this way i get an "access denied" message trying to browse "Temporary Internet Files".
Thanks
Edit: Sorry, my mistake. Typing the whole path it works, i can open that index.dat file.
Indeed most of the content is unreadable, but i can clearly read many visited website's URLs.
As showed in this screenshot, CCleaner can correctly find and clean all the temp internet crap,
doesn't matter it is located in a not-default position. All, but the index.dat file
