  1. Wow, amazing. Corrections in spelling!  :o

Proper spelling in a program is essential, it eliminates confusion, and is serious since people will generally always report improper usage of their language within an application.

Also since the CCleaner installer is the only way I know of to have the language file updated it's an important update, and if you don't think it is then run CCleaner, click Options->Version History and you'll see that updates to translations are included in the list of changes.

  2. The reason I turn mine off when I'm not using it is simple, and it isn't to save nature, or mother earth since that'll be here long after humans have been extinct for millions of years. I turn mine off because of power outages and power spikes -- I don't want to mess up the OS with a bad shutdown due to an electricity loss, or have the power supply zapped. Both problems I've dealt with before.

  3. So it is completly free for one year then after tha i can buy it and have it for another year or would i just renew lisnese?

It is free for the one year. When it is expiring the built in License and Registration tool will allow you to buy a new license for one or more years, it's up to you how long the renewal period will be according to how much you want to spend.

Also does ez antivirus do any email scanning if it does not i don't mind just wondering?

Email scanning is built in for email software. If you're using a webmail account via a web browser such as Hotmail, GMail, Yahoo! Mail, etc., the resident shield will protect you.

  4. Another way to find out how security software stacks up against its competition is via ICSA Labs at https://www.icsalabs.com. They have lists of certified antivirus, firewall, etc., software.

    ---

    Edit

More importantly when you view how your antivirus stacks up it's important that it be listed in both of the following catagories (for home PC users):

    * Products certified under Anti-Virus Cleaning Criteria

    * Products certified under Desktop/Server Anti-Virus Detection

    Note:

Currently the fully featured (with resident shield) freeware antivirus solutions aren't even listed in the cleaning criteria, only commercial software has been certified for cleaning. Therefore if you want to detect viruses, and "possibly clean" infected files, then a paid commercial antivirus product is most probably needed.

The true lightweight antivirus software that is certified in both catagories is eTrust EZ Antivirus. Lightweight meaning: Smallest download size, smallest installed size, not a resource hog, and quick full system scanning.

  5. Well I just discovered two reasons why MSAS may cause system shutdown/restart problems, since the real-time protection is sometimes very slow to notice a change in system security settings:

    1. Inputting restricted sites into MSIE.

    2. Inputting restricted sites into the HOSTS file.

It however seems like more of a problem when inputting sites into the HOSTS file to block. I've waited a number of minutes (up to thirty) before MSAS even notifies that an addition/change was made in the HOSTS file, and if attempting to system shutdown/restart before the notification is displayed it may or will cause an issue during shutdown/restart.

  6. Hi,

    * I saw that you need to scan the register a few times to remove all the unneccesairy links/extensions/... Could this be fixed?

You'll find this in many registry cleaners!

The reason is when removing one invalid entry that is, or may be linked to another entry (entries) will also make that other entry (entries) invalid.

  7. Thanks for the info Sniper.

PeoplePC doesn't sound all that great.

I'm currently trying the Netscape dial-up trial, the $9.95 one that is.

The connection is alright (for dial-up) however the god aweful Netscape ToolBar is a bit annoying and big however it can atleast be minimized, what's also annoying is automatic browser loading during logon.

Now I'm starting to think $19.95 isn't that bad considering I haven't used any annoying in my face ISP software since the middle of 2000 when I gladly cancelled AOL.

  8. One of those Advanced cleaner settings removes the Quick Launch bar without the ability to have it stay re-enabled after cleaning. I don't know which one it is though since I quickly restored the registry to get the Quick Launch bar back.

  9. i used to have real player and it messed up cant remove it completely because uninstaller file is missing

Reinstall whatever version you were using followed by a system restart, then try to uninstall it again. Note: Make sure you exit any Real Player components that may automatically start when your system does to better aid in it's removal.

If you're using a version no longer supplied by Real you may be able to find it at http://www.oldversion.com/.

After you remove it you may realise that you do need the ability to play Real Player files audio/video, the solution is to download Real Alternative.

  10. Just found out today some interesting facts; don't use real scanning for Microsoft antispyware, can cause installation problems with some programs, and apperantly don't use a Reg Cleaner of any sought, including that of CCleaner (came from a proffesional).

Sound's like some "professional" has been telling you some b.s.

The only install "problem" would be the detection of adware/spyware infested programs that should have been scanned in the first place. Of course MSAS or any other good antispyware program with real-time protection is going to halt something when it's detected, it isn't called real-time protection for nothing.

    Install problems?  False.

No harm in registry cleaning as long as you're careful and make backups.

    Agreed!

  11. So if the police find counterfeit documents they get the serial number tell it to the manufacturer who knows who they sold it to i.e. amazon who know who the sold the printer to and bobs your uncle life in prison

Now that you bring that up it does make perfect sense.

I'm almost thinking that law enforcement would be the only people who would have any real usage for such tracking capabilities, it would surely help them in finding counterfeit rings if they could back trace conterfeit paper money to a particular printer and person.

  12. When my PC  gets fixed I'm doing a complete work-through on my PC for what should or shouldn't be there, I might get rid of it considering it is only a Beta program. What do you think?

I will personally continue to use MSAS as long as it remains freeware.

The reason I'll continue using it is because on my previous XP install I ignored what I thought were two constant false positives: An MSIE restricted website registry key, and a VISE uninstaller .exe file. I'm now thinking MSAS was correct in finding two infections.

Now after the fresh XP install MSAS didn't detect anything even though I'm using the same software, drivers, etc., except for the OEM installed crapware like AOL, Music Match Jukebox, etc. Although it hasn't found anything as of yet on this fresh install, I won't so blindly ignore something it finds in the future just because other programs such as Ad-Aware, Ewido, and Spybot S&D don't.

  13. I have always been partial to a few beers.

    Now I don't drink anymore...............

...............I don't drink any less either though. :)

    ROFL

I'm completely allergic to beer, after drinking just one (can, bottle) I've always felt like I had the flu. I'm not allergic to harder liquor like scotch, etc., however I choose not to drink and haven't had any alchohol beverage in eight years.

  14. I haven't ever seen the error message that your getting though andavari.

It's like an old relic from the Win9x days (or an OS flashback), that would commonly have various programs that wouldn't allow a system to shutdown without forcing the program to exit.

I've only seen it twice within the last month, and it's no problem to click the End Now button to force it to exit, but like I said it's only occurred twice.

  15. Well I attempted to attach a picture, but this board apparently will only let pictures be attached that are stored in the root of a site. It claims the following is an invalid "extension"

You can use your forum account for attaching images, etc., however I think there's a 500kb limit.

There's also two sites which many forum users use for hosting images (they even include the code already made for you for posting images):
