  1. Is there a special reason for you to uninstall them all before installing the latest?

You don't need any special reasons for that. It's very basics things to do uninstall current version on your system, before installing new version.

uninstall them all before installing the latest?

What you mean with "uninstall them all"? I always got only one version at the time, that i uninstall before installing new version.

  2. I remember playing with some "connection optimizer" program , when i got 98SE and the result was slower connection. Haven't used them since. Like rridgely said, only way to make your connection faster, is to get faster bandwidth.

  3. I decided not download the Spyware Blaster

SpywareBlaster is must have, if you use IE. It's not so necessary, if you use Opera or Firefox. I use Opera, but i still use SpywareBlaster and also regularly check for updates.

  4. There's also portable Opera: http://www.kejut.com/operaportable

-No registry entries are created or modified

-No effect to existing installed browsers, either IE, Firefox or Opera

-No trace left after exiting - files are overwritten, not just deleted

-Doesn't make your USB drive tired - all code and data are stored in a temporary place on host computer

-Create multiple profiles for different places

-Easy to distribute and use, not limited to USB sticks or CDs

If you wanna test/try Opera, this is great way to do it.

  5. Is Spyware Blaster both a Scanner & Remover, or is it just real-time protection?

SpywareBlaster prevents spyware from installing. It uses Windows registry for that, so it does not run all the time in the background (which is great). It's not a scanner.

  6. theres no need to install sep software over one crappy file type.

Referring to me previous message; most people already got MPC and FFDShow on their system, so it's easy way to play FLV files with that compination.

Here's a little tip for Opera users: Go to Tools > Preferences > Advanced > Downloads and click "Add". Type "video/flv" (without quotation marks) to 'MIME-type' section and "flv" to 'File extensions' section. Make sure that "Show download dialog" is checked. Then hit OK and OK.

That way you don't have to change file extension to .flv all the time, when you use i.e. KeepVid or some other video download site to download YouTube videos.

  7. How often do you folks check hard drive(s) S.M.A.R.T. info, to see if it's ok? It's kinda a little obsession to me and i check (almost) every day.

Offtopic question: Is there any obsessions with computer, that you have to do/check every single day?

  8. You can play FLV files, if you got Media Player Classic and FFDShow. Just go to MPC Options - Formats and check 'Flash Video File'. Then go to FFDShow video decoder configuration options 'codecs' area and set 'FLV1' to "libavcodec".

  9. I got a question for those who got many antispyware programs and also scan with them often. Well, basicly this is just a thought...

It's understable to scan often, if you use (not so safe) IE and also download/install suspicious programs. Then it's most likely, that crap gets on to your system. On the otherhand, if you really don't care about "real-time" safety, then you most likely don't care about scanning either...

If you use safe browser like Opera and Firefox, and use common sense with downloading/installing programs, there's no real danger about crapware. So, like i have said earlier; first make your system (and actions) safe, then you really don't have to worry about crapware (so much). Of course you should scan every now and then, just to be sure. I'm now talking about crapware (spyware, adware, toolbars...) and not about viruses.

Of course you should always have a decent firewall and antivirus.

  10. I don't have any dead pixels, but I do have to clean my screen

Didn't found any dead pixels on my 3 years old Dell TFT either, but i also have to clean the screen. I think that a dampened, clean, soft cloth will do just fine.

  11. HazelNut, let me know if when you figure out the Zone issue. I'm curious how that turns out.

I solved it by using proxy server for wtv-zone.com. Now i can nicely see your linked pictures that you put here.

Nice thing with Opera is, that i can use proxy server for specific sites, without using it globally.

  12. 'horses: Go to IE Tools - Internet options - Advanced. Then check option "Allow installation of files, even signature is not valid". < I don't know the exact English description of the option, because i don't got English OS.

  13. Yes, it was before it made it to the desktop, it happened right after it finished downloading it. I had clicked 'Run' instead of 'Save'. Maybe I should try saving it?

It's your decision, if you want to install it or not. It's not an error of any kind, it's just a security warning. You can just ignore it.

  14. Not really very funny runaway, but I am afraid i cannot see your image

You have to use proxy for that wtv-zone Web site. I have to do it also. Don't know why that site doesn't work without proxy for us.

I you want, i can tell you how to enable proxy only for that site and NOT use proxy globally.

    ---

runawayhorses: It's just a security warning, because the publisher of the file is unknown. If you think that the file is trusted, you can just hit OK to download and install it.

Btw, you can resize/resample pictures with IrfanView also.

  15. Anyone else looking forward to the new batman movie?

They have just released a teaser for it

Batman Begins I thought was surprisingly good(because it was dark like the comics)

Yes, i'm waiting for it. Well, that teaser didn't said anything, it was just all talk. Yes, dark is what Batman movies should be. Hoping that this new movie would be better than Batman Begins. Begins was good, but imo, not that good.

  16. I've been using JKDefrag for a while now and found it to be very good. Don't find any reason to use any other defragger than it.

    Andavari, don't you like JKDefrag?

  17. Just found a nice little program called Xpadder. With that you can i.e. use gamepad as a "remote control" for your video/music player or play old DOS games using gamepad. There's a Zip version available, so - No installation needed.

Xpadder simulates keypresses and mouse movements using a gamepad

  18. LOL, maybe you should get high-speed instead of dial-up!.

    I got 8MB ADSL, so it's quite fast. B)

Well most of the time your avatar loads just fine. Couple of times have noticed it to load slower. Don't know why.
