  1. Thanks Andavari as usual you been a great help. I searched "prevx" on the forums here and found rridgely asked the same question as me. rridgely's post He read reviews on download.com but said "most of them sounded kind of dumb." Talk about an understatement! Pros: Does a 'GOOD' job...maybe 'TOO' good. It can be 'VERY' annoying. Too 'MANY' pop up windows displaying 'ACCEPT' or 'NOT'. Thanks but 'NO THANKS'... Cons: Too 'MANY' to 'MENTION'... ?and I ?thought? I (used) ?too? [much] punctuation ?in? my <posts>. I hope they fix that doing ?TOO? good a job bug in the next release. Pros: Just looks fine... Cons: God! Who created that G.U.I. ? Doen't make any sences for me... I got confuse the first time. And lost the second time. Is just to PREVent... doesn't cure/heal or remove anything. OK I?m no computer genius but doesn?t GUI mean ?graphical user interface? ie: the way the program looks? This makes no sences to me. The third time I got unconscious. Pros: there are no pros Cons: don't use this!!! it will *****-up your system. I really don't understand why you can download this here real crapware!!! WTH swear word has five letters? I?ve used every four letter word I can imagine on my computer and if there?s a five letter word I need to add it to the arsenal. Pros: ermmm ...if ya ask me just the skin & Fastness of the product Cons: I agree with a good majority of other people who have downloaded Prevx Home ..I was so confused..I am a blonde so I thought it was just me...but I played a game with the new product I had downloaded . Sure enuf it was to good to be true . Once again I found this product to be False . It doesnt do a ***** thing to block a ***** thing . Whew Another Blonde Saved . :-) This just defies explanation. This one posting has set anti-blonde-joke-activists back about a thousand years. ermmm, there?s that 5 letter swear word again. Pros: It's Free? It has an Un-installation routine. Cons: Un-installation routine crashes. No comment? Pros: i think this software may be not very famous that why can really protect my pc from getting virus attact. Unlike those very famous anti-virus which very costly but can say useless when the machine is really infected by viruses. I also hate those snooty famous software programs, they just sit around all day doing nothing while all the other programs work their ***** off hoping for their big break. Pros: A decent program that can block Cons: Didnt block everything Maybe it?s only sort-of famous. I think this may be a good program. To be fair, it takes some getting used to. During installation all the other antispy programs have to be turned off. Uninstalling seems very frustrating to people but they don't realise you have to stop the services it uses before it will uninstall.
  2. Hello I'm trying PrevX Home and would appreciate any comments good or bad you folks have. In particular I am wondering if it uses a lot of resources, should I run it with MS Antispy, SpyBot Tea Timer, ewido, etc.? Thanks!
  3. LOL I guess the same reason a sign where I worked had braille on the sign for the fire alarm control room... Our industrial trash compactor had a sign that said "Do Not Occupy" I knew someone who lived in a trash compactor, he always had the feeling the walls were closing in on him.
  4. I think most malware comes straight from hell anyway.
  5. Would anyone be interested in forming an organization whose mission is to seek out and destroy the evil creators of CoolWWWSearch and their low life brethren who aid and abet them? From reading countless HJT logs and web pages devoted to trying to undo the damage and aggravation they cause there may be thousands willing to take up the cause! We could call ourselves something really cool like the "Malwareriors (Malwarriors?)" or the "CruelWWWSearchers!" Oops, I see it's way past time for me to take my medicine (again). never mind...
  6. I had the same problem. It was because I adblocked ibsys. Apparently on some sites the same people who supply ads also provide all the other images on the site.
  7. Thanks englishmen I had the same problem and your advice did work.
  8. Hello- NO, IE and MSAS aren't that bad, I think I just get frustrated because IE isn't as intuituve as FireFox IMHO. I recently read a forum (elsewhere) regarding the beta relaease of Vista, and the MS bashing was pretty unbelievable. I agreed with some opinions, laughed at some remarks, but I have to agree with those that said if it wasn't for Microsoft I probably wouldn't be typing this right now. Personally, I used to have a lot of trouble with XP, but SP2 fixed all that. I also really admire Bill gate's many sizable charitable contributions. My gripe with MSAS is it sometimes allows changes without giving me the option to reject them but it seems consistently rated as one of the best antispywares available especially for free (so far!). Thanks to those who were amused, it's fun to be able to vent sometimes... PS SpyBot S&D 1.4 is available (new version, not an upgrade) and it seems really good and has a better notificaton for registry changes than it did before.
  9. Internet Explorer is relaxing in MicroVille as Firefox runs around getting everything done, doing a great job as usual, with lots of admirers all around. IE thinks to itself: "Hmmm, I wonder why nobody comes to visit me anymore, and that stupid little fox has friends all over the place." IE begins to doze off, again, when suddenly there's a knock on the door. "Woohoo I still have friends after all!" Opening the door IE finds a sumo wrestler with a gun, hatchet, numchucks, brass knuckles, a flamethrower, fireworks, DDT, broken glass, and a Caterpiller D9 idling up against the house. Hmm... he looks kinda suspicious, maybe he's looking for that snooty fox... "Hi! Can I help you kinda scary looking dude?" The visitor raps him on the head with the brass knuckles once or twice or five times and yells: "Yeah, you can let me in you moron!" IE to itself: "Well that's not very nice but hey a friend in need is a friend indeed." But slowly IE gets the feeling it's seen this guy somewhere before like maybe in a police lineup or a wanted poster. "Well come on in buddy!!!" IE begins to get a little suspicious though, but only a little... "Hey, wait a minute. What are you planning to do with a gun, hatchet, numchucks, brass knuckles, a flamethrower, fireworks, DDT, broken glass, and a Caterpiller D9 idling up against the house?" "Well, I'm certainly not going to destroy your Desktop, or break any Windows, or burn your computer or empty your filing cabinet, anything like that!" Scary Guy says with a wink. IE notices a nametag nailed to Scary Guy's chest... "Is your name really Mr. Evil B. Malware?!?" "No no, that's just my nickname." Suddenly a feeble voice calls down from an upstairs bathroom "IE honey, who's at the door?" IE yells back "Well it's not Mr. Evil B. Malware if that's what you're thinking!" Evil B. looks a little nervous. "Who's that?! I thought it was going to be just me against you, oops I mean just me and you, little buddy." "Oh, that's just my frail aunt MS AuntiSpry. You know, she doesn't want just anyone coming in our house. They could have something really dangerous like a GIF file attached to an e-mail. Of course a gun, hatchet, numchucks, brass knuckles, a flamethrower, fireworks, DDT, broken glass, and a Caterpiller D9 idling up against the house are all OK." Then MS AuntiSpry calls down "By all means let him in! Give him whatever he needs and whatever you do DON'T GET IN HIS WAY! That would be rude." As IE steps out of the way he notices Foxfire and his many friends rolling on the ground in the distance. He ponders "What are they laughing at now? Dang, I hate that snotty little fox." Hope this isn't considered bashing. I have to go now and spend more time trying to get rid of malware courtesy of MS...
  10. Thanks guys. Appreciate the help. Can't be too careful these days!
  11. I noticed at the bottom of the page there is a note: Your Windows XP may need a tuneup Difficulty level: Easy (Just 1 step to tune up) Time required 2 minutes And a start button Any ideas on what this might be? Tarun said my HijackThis file was clean execpt for unneeded toolbars. I did just have a major crash due to a loose PCI card (which apparently caused driver file troubles) but I was able to recover and everything seems OK. The little smart voice in my head which I usually ignore is saying run away from that start button and never look back! Any thoughts? The site isn't Mozilla as far as I know.
  12. Interesting The comments aren't lacking for passion, are they?
  13. Curses My Dad was a high school teacher and grammar and spelling were within his domain. I was determined never to make a mistake under your watchful eye. Arrogantly , I right-clicked inanimate and "define" only to see Alert! No definitions were found for "inanimate". In-animate was defined but said both in and in- were OK. Trying a second time inanimate defines as well. I guess that means it's debatable; hence you win. My Dad's peeve was the misuse of apostraphes, as in two pizza's for the price of one... I did catch grammer while proof reading... Kelsey would be proud!
  14. You may enjoy this one then... BBC News Both these incedents happened here in Colorado (my home state) Coincedence ? Probably not... Closer to home (pun) imagine my surprise to find that while trying to find a solution to "visited links not changing color in Firefox" for my benefit and momnpopdays (see "firefox" in the Software Forum) I type ["visited links" +firefox] into Google and one of my idiotic, unhelpfull posts in reply turns up in the results 4 RESULTS DOWN OUT OF 3,340 WITH CCleaner Forums ->Firefox AS THE TITLE. Luckily, I found a solution on the Web in the meantime and edited the post to reflect it. If you look at my posts, you will see I often post and then reply to myself with some kind of rambling, moronic, and wrong solution. Fortunately, DjLizard must be very understanding or maybe just didn't notice. BTW, If I ever implied my computer was inanimate it would most likely burst into flames, fall on me, or at least crash (into my car). Inanimate objects will never be happy until we are* *inanamite, that is
  15. SUCCESS!! Thanks to an excellent Firefox user's guide and tips for tweaking (including CSS) by Karoush Ghazi here: tweakguides.com I found the simple solution. After creating a userContent.css folder per his instructions, paste or type in the following: a:visited { color: red ! important; } This has worked for all sites so far except AltaVista (including CCleaner.com).
  16. I was thinking along the lines of this... There but for the grace of God go I
  17. Would anyone be interested in reading or contributing to a thread about humorous, frustrating, unbelievable, etc. computer stories, problems, web sites, and such?
  18. Hello- I hope it's OK to start a new thread similar to "firefox" as my previous lengthy posts went nowhere (my fault). Re: "visited links not changing color" I have used an extension called EditCSS that allows temporarily modifying a stylesheet which corrects the link issue. However, it only works as long as the EditCSS window is kept open, which takes up about 20% of the screen. This is the change that works: a:link { color: #000099; text-decoration: underline} a:visited { color: #000099; text-decoration: underline} a:hover { color: #000099; text-decoration: none} TO: a:link { color: #000099; text-decoration: underline} a:visited { color: #FF4900; text-decoration: underline} a:hover { color: #000099; text-decoration: none} Is there a way to make this change permanent without using EditCSS or if not to hide the EditCSS window (it's in the sidebar)? If I uncheck EditCSS in the View, Sidebar menu the changes are lost. Thanks in advance.
  19. Changing Options to accept cookies as I described earlier only worked for a short time. The only thing that works consistently is the "Always use my: Colors" technique. After reading a lot of posts in forums and knowledge bases these are the explanations of why this happens: 1) Some web sites control whether links change color or not. 2) It's a Java issue. 3) It is related to CSS code. No one seems to know why this affects only certain users. Changing History, Cookie, and Privacy settings seem to work for a short time, if at all. Some people have posted code they say fixes this but that's beyond my understanding or ability. If anyone finds an easy fix please post... Thanks
  20. Thanks corjello for your help and quick reply! I really appreciate it...
  21. Hello- When I run an issue scan the results shows uneeded file extensions such as .exe, .com, .pif, etc. (Screen print attached) Are these safe to delete? Thanks!
