  1. Using the Comodo firewall here and it is as good as if not better than most paid firewalls.

    Discussion on Comodo firewall

Haven't tried the av as yet.Seems to have promise though but will wait a coupla months until they get a few more siggys into their data base.

As far as the firewall goes I like it also. Have you tested it on any sites for it stealth and closed ports and such and what kind of results did you get mainly were the any closed ports at all.

  2. Found another free Anitvirus Program this morning lookng around since AGV and Avast have been acting up a bit lately not sure how good it may be but it seem to have lots of features the other programs do not and with alot of custom settings. Has a matching firewall thats free to download also to go with it. Have both running on a test machine now took about 10 min. get the free lifetime code and another 10 to install and update have tested firewall on about 5 different sites and all ports are stealth took about 35 minutes to run a full scan but that system has 3 HD's with a full backup on 1 of them so that wasen't bad for a full system scan.

  3. Yes, you can determine which antivirus software is the best.

There are coming new threats all the time. Of course no antivirus always detects everything. But by running a bunch of antivirus software against 147184 viruses you can see which one detects the most of them, hence is the best.

You can also test a bunch of antivirus software against thousand of viruses "not in the wild", to determine which antivirus software has the best heuristics.

I just tried to download the new database for Kaspersky online scanner and I keep getting the blacklist is broken error message anyone else getting this message. I have uninstalled the older version I had on my system so I know thats not the problem.

  4. My main scanner is eTrust EZ Antivirus, and for obvious reasons I don't get any nasties with it installed.

My desktop Icon disappeared also after the update to the newer version so I just uninstalled it cleaned everything out and downloaded the new version from scratch and it seem to be working fine. Im glad to see Avast was better than Norton 2006 I desided to not reup my subscription and just use Avast as my main full functional scanner and the ashQuick.exe in Avast as my download manager scanner and AGV as my secondary scanner with the mail scanner disabled in AGV for now. Seem to be working fine so far but I try to practice as much safe computing as possible.

  5. Is the Avast Home free only capable of doing boot scans and on demand scan. I was looking for a way to set up a full system scan at a certain time of day but can seem to find an answer. I know the AGV free program has this just courious.

OK found what I need to know on the home page. Thanks anyways please delete this post

  7. New Egg has the WD Raptor 150GB HD - both retail and OEM versions. The OEM version is $90 cheaper ($30 of that through a mail-in rebate). The OEM price seems hard to beat - so are the any advantages to getting the retail version? Is the warranty the same? What comes with the retail version besides the bare drive?

All the OEM drives I have bought from NE are just the drive wraped in bubble wrap no book, papers of any kind or cables. Also click on the pic that is with each drive it showe's in some cases all that comes with the drive. Here is your retail box photo.

  8. Reconfigured some of the ports that were suspect ran the online scans again and now Im stelth on all my ports so much so that my net in and out meter want even register any activity. All my programs and services seem to be working normally.

  9. Well I was working on a friends computer that some sopposed Tech. screwed up wasent any sound and crashed all the time for the past few months. Well all thats fixed now so I was looking for free Firewall and Antivirus programs to put on it. Right now I have the computer to test and set up some programs on for a couple of week's Im using Avast free and the new Ashampoo 1.10 firewall I had no problems installing setting up or getting the free code for it. I tested the firewall on several sites for port scans and packet downloads and it pass them all with flying colors only had one closed port and that was on the email and messenger. Anyways the Firewall seem to be doing great no repeats of programs asking for permission and it seem to pick up everything I install so Im going to give it a whirl for a while.

  10. It doesnt matter if you think my theme is ugly I like it so thats all that really matters. I'm not the type of person that really cares what anyone else thinks about anything concerning myself. I live my life choose what I like want and need based on my own desires not the openions of others. To be honest Eldmannen your statements dont really bother me at all, since you can only be offended by what you allow yourself to be offended by. Looking forward to more exchanges in the forums. Have a nice day :D

  11. hmm... I don't have IE7 on my computer right now. I did scan it with dr.web mozilla extension and it came up clean.

    https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/938/

It should be ok. Here is the site that I got the newsletter from.

    http://www.techsupportalert.com/best_46_free_utilities.htm

Its a pretty widely trusted site. :)

It probably is fine I know IE7 is just a RC 1 release may be a bug I sent the info to MS through the browser so if it's a leget site that they support it shouldn't come up with a warning like it does.

  12. Thanks Mike I tried the content menu option but they didnt work I download an extention that does what i want but it not exactly what i like but it works for now.

  13.

When I'm on a web site like Tiger Direct and I select a product then select photo gallery the photo file that pops up is the same size as my browser but only about 1/3 the width of the browser and you can only view about 1/3 of the photo. Any Ideas on what settings if any I may not have set correctly. Just as a side note in IE7 they want show up at all where it says click for larger view.

  14. Mike here is a great article on How CD's work will tell you more than you need to know about that and any other computer related topic you can imagine.

    http://computer.howstuffworks.com/cd.htm

MY personal DVD backup tools are Any DVD along with DVD Shrink. I have tried the other program but it seem kinda slow to me and didnt have the features that Shrink has. As far a HD backup goes I use a second installed HD and use http://www.karenware.com/powertools/ptreplicator.asp set to copy My Doc. folder to the other HD about every 2 days.

  15. Yeah that's it! And I think the USA should go along with it, but I guess those road beasts gas guzzlers called SUV's are just more important than clean air.

This might have a little something to do with why the USA doesnt sign that piece of crap UN junk.

This is a challenge that requires a 100% effort; ours, and the rest of the world's. The world's second-largest emitter of greenhouse gases is China. Yet, China was entirely exempted from the requirements of the Kyoto Protocol. India and Germany are among the top emitters. Yet, India was also exempt from Kyoto ? America's unwillingness to embrace a flawed treaty should not be read by our friends and allies as any abdication of responsibility. And just as a side note Russia's precentage of greenhouse gases it has to reduce is 0% sound like a real deal for the US.

  16. Norton Internet Security 2006 have run Norton for 5 years now. Computer runs fine never been hacked or had a virus on my system. I set up my scan engine to run at night when im working. Plus always cheaper to buy your software on ebay if you use the pay for type of programs at a third of the cost or less. Been pleased with Norton never had a problem with it.

  17. ...do you even know what you're saying? there's no way to change which HD is the slave and which is the master in the BIOS. you can only change which HD(or CD of Floppy) boots up first. the only way to change which drive is the slave/master is to change the placement of the cables.

as for how to change them from master to slave and vice versa, just take a look at the long cable which is connected to the HDs and switch around the HDs that it goes into. that's what i did and it worked like a charm.

Don't forget to change the jumper positions on the back of the HD's also. That is if your drives doest support the cable select feature.

  18. I use OpenOffice, but I like AbiWord too...

Have all my kids using OpenOffice now for school work and Installing it on every computer I can come across it's amazing how many people still dont know about OpenOffice and that It's just as good as MS Office and free to boot. Would be nice if I could get the local school system to start using it and get off the MS Office hook.

  19. I read somewhere today the final release was suppose to be out by the end of the year. It was a reliable source but I have read about so much today I dont remember who or where I read that. Using RC1 now nice changes working great.
