  1. Tested my firewall today on this site http://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?rh1dkyd2 all my Ports were stealthed but Port 113 it's closed after reading the info on this port It's like a 50/50 shot to stealth it or just leave it closed. So I just created a firewall rule to let me know if the port is ever used and what program is requesting it. Anyone have any better ideas would appreciate the info also failed the Ping test. I have looked around in my firewall setting I cant find anything related to the Ping settings. I'm using Norton 2003 Firewall. I have been attacked a few times over the years but all blocked as far as I know I have never been compromised in any way.

  2. Agreed. I only kept it for about a week after it changed to Defender, but used to use MS anti-spyware regularly <_<

Most of the post I have read in other forums say it doesnt find many of the new adware/spyware traces. Several posters related that AdAware SE found many traces in a side by side scan when Defender said the PC was clean. I personally have tried the new release took over 2 Hrs. to run a full system scan where Super AntiSpyware only took 20 Min. I deleted it this morning not of any use to me at all.

  3. In fact this was kind of false warning. Program works only when the BF 2142 is on, and even then only gathers information of already existing in-game ads, like from what angle you view them, how often, and such. There is more information:

The point is there shouldnt be any adWare or SpyWare in the game to begin with! It's hard enought now day just to keep the unknown junk off your system. It will get to the point where you cant even touch your mouse without somebody knowing about it.

  4. you what :P

also, i'm starting to hate IE. i just lost my menu bar and my tab bar and i can't seem to get it back. this is sweet!

Try this click on the tools button far right make sure the menu bar has a check beside it then right under that is toolbars select what ever options you want to show hope that works for you.

  5. Well my Symantic is about ready to expire so Im going with some freeware soluton for the moment. Would like any suggestions as to firewalls and AV software and your experience with them. I use pretty safe computing so email is not really a problem the firewall is my main concern dont want to have to do lots of configuring Im not into the technical side of firewalls or complex interfaces. I kinda like the Comodo firewall but just wanted to see what everyone thoughts were on this.

    Thanks

  6. i downloaded it yesterday along with NConvert but i don't know how to use NConvert which is a bit of the problem.

also, i fixed the issue by having a .bat file which launches a .vbs file which launches IrfanView which launches PNGOUT. it's messy but it works.

NConvert is already incorporated into XnView just open up your XnView Browser select convert from the toolbar if it not available go to Tools\ Options\Toolbar\Button Display and selct all the buttons you want to display on the toolbar. Then select Convert add your PNG file\Select your Output folder\the format if you want to convert to a different format\Options button beside the Format drop down list lets you change the way you rewrite the file\Transform tab let you select form any number of things you can do to the file to many to list then click go and its done I turned a 70kb PNG file into 17 kb file with max compression if you want to rename the file or number a bunch of file in sequence go under tools and select sequence convert and do the same functions as above but here you can sequence the files by number.

    Good Luck

  7. Ugh I cant believe that you have to have a whole new toolbar just to use site advisor:

They really should have included a classic mode or something. :(

Well you could do this so it wouldn't feel so lonely all by itself.

  8. More programs? Yes. More time? Not really.

DVDs are slow to rip with all programs, but dvd shrink is awesome at editing the dvds and is probably the easiest one to use as well.

I agree I have used DVD Shrink for years when it stoped being updated I purchased AnyDVD it runs in the background while your ripping you DVD with Shrink and upgrades are free for life. So all I have to do is rip the DVD selct main title and burn. I installed RipIt4Me program tried it out but then you have to have DVD Decrypter and FixIt and DVD Shrink all installed to get the same results. I like the KISS method whenever possible even on occasion I have to pay for a piece of software but its been well worth it. The RipIt4Me programs are great if you dont have another alternative.

  9. You must have something seriously wrong with your DSL if it took 2 hours. The last update took no more than a few mins. I recently did a windows repair which require all updates since SP2 and that took less than an hour.

Yes im on the end of the line way out in the sticks we have 2 types of DSL slow and fast I have the slow version. Also after rereading my own post after just finishing a 7 day 12 hr. a day shift at work I realized I had adding the total time to install XP and do all the updates from scratch. All those update still suck though.

  10. Installed TI 7.0 today when I got in from work was pretty easy to set up by using the wizard created a disk image on my extra HD then I made a Bootable Rescue Media CD check it out it works then I tested my archived file it checked out ok also. Then I set the program to do a backup on Wed. and Sun. at 4 AM I hope I never have to use it but at least I have another alternative to reformatt and install everything again in the event of a crash which I have rarely had. Seems to be a great program will see just how good if its ever needed.

  11. Well were up to about 70 Security updates now on XP. I dont know about anybody else but this is getting to be to much to deal with even with DSL. I know you can set update to auto but who want all the extra junk I think it about time for a new Service Pak. or at least a rollup either one. Its up to about 2 Hrs. or longer now just to do manual updates and Vista no ever going to conside that bloated piece of OS anytime in the near future. I have tried to do some slipstreaming with some of the programs available on the net but none see to really work right ever

  12. Having never used one of these programs what would be the main uses for this? Is it an alternetive to backup software?

It is backup software you first created a Rescue Media CD which is a copy of the programs that you can boot from you CD drive in the event of a system crash. You can also install the Startup Recovery Manager which uses the F11 key. This allows you to access the copy of your Disk Image or backup clone of your main HD that you created in a non visable partition with the program on a seperate HD if you have 2 installed I guess it would also work on a single HD also not sure about that though. You can also use the program to make partition on your HD's or set up a new one all together.

  13. Tried to do a scan from the context menu with AGV Anti-Spyware program It wouldnt run unless the program was open. I uninstalled it and deleted the folder after a reboot reinstalled and updated it still same thing. So I removed it again and deleted the folder upon reboot installed ewido 4.0 old version updated it and it worked fine mabe a bug or something all other scan from context menu type programs work fine before and after so Its something to do with the AGV program on my end at least.

  14. Their main website still has problems but updates, although running a bit slow, seem to be working.

Updates working fine today was able to update both my computers with no problems.

  15. The only time I've had problems with an update not working in the application is when they release a definition file, obviously it's a server issue with too many people updating at the same time. However you can bookmark this link to manually download the def file if the program ever fails:

    http://download.lavasoft.com/updates/defs.zip

Thanks I went to the HP downloaded and droped it in the program file.

  16. They just haven't released an update in awhile is all.

I thought mabe that was it but it just seemed odd it never usually goes that long without an update that I can recently remember.

  17. Has anyone noticed not being able to update Ad-Aware SE several of my friends called me saying there 15 days out of date and I havent been able to update either of my computers at home either. I went to the web site and couldnt even get support to come up there not sure whats up. Anyone havng this problem or have any ideas. Seem like many of the security sites have been having problems lately with the updates or online scans.
