  1. Just when I thought I couldn't POSSIBLY be any dumber. I proved myself wrong again. I have to assume the @vcmails I put in was just a sample address. I deleted it & added myname@cpu-net.net & Walla. it works. Now I can tell the old ISP how I really feel. Thanks again to all. I think I,m down to one more stupid question. I will post a new topic. If You ain't All tired of Me yet. Cowboy

I think the word "dud" comes into mind when I think of my own past computer experiences. It's just a learning process.

  2. I only used firefox ( I assume kinda like opera )for a short time & had to open My favorites from IE to add them to firefox. theres probably an easier way but I just opened the links one by one & added them to firefox favorites. Anyway I guess You allready figured that out. lol . Cowboy

To add your Bookmarks/History/Options etc. to Firefox go under FILE then IMPORT a pop up box will ask you to import all these from Internet Explorer or Opera. If you just want to import your bookmarks of favorites which ever you like to call it. Click on Bookmarks then Organize Bookmarks then under FILE select either import to bring them in from another location such as a saved folder or you can export them to a folder later of you choice after you have compiled them to use as backup in case of a system crash if you have allot of bookmarks. I created folder on my 2nd HD where I store a copy of my bookmarks and my address book there. You can download an extension for Firefox called FEBE and CLEO that will backup your entire profile and package it into one neat XPI file you can find that here if you have a need for that. http://customsoftwareconsult.com/extensions/febe/febe.html

As far as adding favorites from one browser to another none that I know of automatically sync. your favorites or bookmarks. Thats why I created a separate folder and just import and export from it.

  3. WOT

A replacement for SiteAdvisor or can run along side it. http://www.mywot.com/en/wot/home/

WOT is a free service that provides web site reputation information for users. You can download it as a simple add-on for your browser that determines the trustworthiness of websites based on direct testimonies from the users themselves. The testimonies are compiled into a general indicator of a websites trustworthiness, which you can easily view through a reputation icon on your browser window.

  4. You misunderstood. The music files that I'm trying to burn to CD are in wav format.

Gonna try using a CDR instead tomorrow, I'll let you know if it works.

WAV is a data file format for computer use that can't be understood by CD players directly. you need to change it to either MP3 or WMA or some other format.

  5. Tarq

Yeah it might have just been false positives.(more then likely)

If your worried I suggest you do is reinstall the host file with the batch file again. It will just replace it with the same thing if nothing is wrong.

Regardless if you reinstall it or not I suggest you find the host file at C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC then right click your host file and set it to read only. This way nothing should be able to edit your host file and you know everything it is ok thats in it.

    -----

TeeJay its ok to have both but they are more then likely blocking the same stuff.(I'm guessing that the MVPS one probably blocks more then the other.)

I have been using this program called hoster it no install and you can download your MVPS host files or hphost files which ever you prefer it allow you to backup your original files download and replace the old host files and then set them as read only. The hphost files block about 3 times more web sites including My Space completely. http://www.funkytoad.com/content/view/13/31/

  6. Alright I know I'm going to get some flack for this but oh well. :D

If you cant get anything else to work then try this.

JD you have WMP 10 or 11 right? Open it up and then right click around the top of the player and choose to show classic menus. Then go to tools>options>Format> and make sure you choose Windows Media Audio Lossless.

Then close that menu, put in your cd and click the rip tab. Then put in your cd and choose to rip it. After its done ripping go to the burn tab and well you know. :D (just drag your music into it then put in a blank cd and press burn. :D)

I know its not the most cool way to do it but its how I taught my computer illiterate cousin to burn cds that don't sound like they were converted back and forth 4 times between mp3 and wma. The sound quality is great and it works.

No flack here works every time especially in older CD players. I have used that or dBpoweramp along with Win. Media Audio 9 codecs to change the sample sizes for small MP3 players only because it has allot more options. But if your going to do a straight forward rip and burn you can't beat the simplicity.

To each and every one of you who is a member and visits this forum. During this Holiday Season while we are spending time with our families and enjoying the freedoms that each one of us hold dear to our hearts let us not forget all our brothers and sister who are in far away lands serving this country and standing guard over this land away from there families. May God's protection be open them and they come home soon.

  8. If you have another power supply that you can try you might want to swap it out had a PC a few weeks ago had some of the same problems the internal switching was not working right inside the power supply. It would power the board but not allow the PC to boot swapped it out and that fixed the problem on my end may be worth a try. I wouldnt go right out and buy an new one at this moment see if you can fine a used one in another scraped PC. No sense spending that money on something if its not the real problem.

  9. Alright it's completely better than the default WinXP defrag util and stating it's faster isn't even fair because if I were to give a speed comparison it would go like this:

WinXP defrag speed = A bicycle going through one foot of sticky mud

Auslogics Disk Defrag = The Starship Enterprise at warp speed

I totally agree with Andavari program is like night and day I will use is as my default at this point till something better at equal size and speed and free comes along.

  10. I noticed the screen shots on Wilders shows 2007 Ver. 6.20 I have had Ver. 5 and now use 6 Screen shot attached which has more features than the 2007. Non the less its a great program I cant even remember the last time I had to deal with a coaster using this program I burn all my CD/DVD's Movie files/Music files and use it to write my ISO's. I did a pre release purchase of the Burn Studio 6 Ver. I have. It only cost me $15 bucks at the time couldn't be more happy with it.

  11. mmm, 3rd party links

    *giggles*

Mabe so but there MS updates along with many other program updates for various other software vendors and you can build your own update CD so you don't have to even bother with Microsoft to update windows plus you don't have to download 50 different languages of the same file just to get the one you need. Its a good one stop site for updating all your main programs.

  12. try reinstalling and then uninstalling the .NET Framework version(s) whcih you are trying to get rid of. after that, try applying the Updates. if that doesn't work, then manually search for "KB922770 and KB917283" and install them manually.

btw, one of those security updates is only needed if you use ASP.NET

You can find those stand alone patches on this page along with many other software update for MS.

I dunno what the deal is.....my PC is still refusing any new security update downloads from microsoft! and,,, anytime i unistall the .NET frameworks - i get this "Fatal error" crap, then my system wont let me reinstall it (doesn't matter if i reboot)..

I'm at a complete loss and I'm getting so fed up with this!! gaah.gifthrow-1.gif i never had this problem before... does it sound like i need an new computer?

Couple of questions why does your computer refuse to install the new security updates are you receiving any error messages or are they not just installing after they download. What version of Net are you trying to uninstall. Also just curious are you installing the updates from Internet Explorer and have you tried to reinstall Net Framework over your previous instillation.

  14. Trust me once you make the switch your computer will be twice as fast. :D

I have no drought about that at all I know Norton is quiet a resource hog especially on slower processor and machines with just barely enough ram to run XP. However on my machine I have overkill on ram and very few running processes and I never shutdown unless a storm is close by or I'm going to be out of town for more than a few days. I have my system scans set up to run at night while I'm sleeping or at work. With all that said I still plan on dumping Norton when it expires. Thanks for all the insight and help. :)
  15. Well with etrust the updates are free so its worth it to upgrade. :D

With norton you have to pay to change from 2005 to 2006 even if your subscription is still valid right?(haven't used norton long enough to find out. :P) With etrust you get the newest version as long as its still under license.

Yes that is correct. It's just a matter of how much you want to spend to upgrade I never buy the subscription online I have always purchased my upgrade off ebay or discount software sites for usually around $20 or less but I'm probably going to go with the eTrust when 2006 runs out next year.

  16. Thanks for the replies I hardy ever upgrade my AV from one Ver. to the next via subscribing its allot cheaper just to buy a new Ver. off ebay or from an online discounter and just upgrade from the CD. And yes it was unopened still wrapped in the sealed plastic.

  17. Well I was at a yard sale the other day and I picked up a new in the box eTrust Security Suite Ver. r2 for $10. Was wondering if anyone had ever used this Ver. and if there were any major Pros or Cons on this software. I plan on replacing my Norton 2006 when it runs out with this. Thanks

  18. Nice piece of software to emulate and record CDs and DVDs. You can run your ISO CDs or DVDs at about 200X. Great for when you have a game or program that requires a disc to run from your computer, simply mount the image file. I copied all my major programs onto my 2nd. HD as ISOs so I don't have to pull out all my disc to reinstall everything. Being some of my programs are multi disc my install times are less that half the usual times it takes going through the regular CD or DVD drive.

  19. From where?

There are folders inside the shell folder of the Royal Noir Vista containing cursors/sounds etc. I used my old icon packager program to replace the cursors with and copied the Vista sounds to C/windows/media folder then used the sound panel in Control Panel to replace the startup and shutdown sounds. Those 2 sounds along with logon an logoff were the only thing I could find different then the XP sounds I already had. Sorry I didn't post that info just got off a 14 hr. shift on the way back to do another one in a few hours.

UPDATE: You can download the Self-Extracting file http://www.filelodge.com/files/room48/1382...oir%20Vista.rar run it and it will add the Vista cursors and sounds along with the Black and Blue theme. The wallpaper sucks but O well cant have everything.
