  1. Nice!

FYI, I unzipped the beta 3 and scanned it, Avast remained silent, MBAM triggered on 2 files:

    Files Infected:

    c:\documents and settings\...\NirSoft\astlog.exe (HackTool.Asterisk) -> No action taken.

    c:\documents and settings\...\NirSoft\rdpv.exe (Password.Stealer) -> No action taken.

    Edit: and those ran OK.

Regarding this matter please read here (The official blog of nirsoft.net):

  2. Although still in beta, NirLauncher is a package of more than 100 portable freeware utilities for Windows, all of them developed for the NirSoft Web site during the last few years.

    http://launcher.nirsoft.net/

It's surprising just what is included when you have a look at the Utility list via the website tab.

NOTE... you may have to exempt the Launcher from scans to keep it intact, some virus programs don't like some of Nirsoft's programs.

Quite a very useful finding Hazelnut. Thank you very much !! ;)

BTW it is amazing that all these launcher portables = 6.8MB in disk space !!!!!

  3. Depending upon the browser you're using Firefox, etc., you need to allow these to be enabled (Firefox example located in Firefox's 'Tools->Add-ons->Plugins'):

    * Microsoft DRM

    * Windows Media Player Plug-in Dynamic Link Library

Also your Internet Explorer settings are a place to look since WMP uses its security settings. Look in the IE Security (tab), and Advanced (tab) for any restrictions, or access the security settings via WMP.

Also don't forget to see if your anti-malware SpywareBlaster, HOSTS File, etc., are blocking the site.

Thank you for your reply Andavari.

    * Microsoft DRM and Windows Media Player Plug-in Dynamic Link Library allowed in FF, security settings in IE ok with no restrictions, still same same and it is not with only one site , it is with any site that needs WMP. We have to assume that the player does not work if requested from sites.

  4. Hi

I`m having an issue with WMP for quite a while and that means that sites that require this player for streaming videos

just wont work even if I configure other player to play WMP files. I`ve tried almost everything but formating and reinstalling Windows.....My question is if you have any idea to bypass the issue ,meaning that the solution will not deal with WMP itself but will bring a bypass solution, for instance a sort of player that that "smells" the same but will somehow do the trick.

    Thanks

Note: 22 hours to download, from the time of this message.

  6. Eli, I just downloaded and installed ver 1.06, ver 1.06 Spanish, and ver 1.06 portable. Scanned the installers and the program files w/ MBAM, and w/ Avast. Negative results.

That is interesting `login123` I`ve just rechecked and no positives now, I guess they fixed it during the day.....

That means it was a false positive ,atherwise it would alarm again.

  7. Best thing to do would be a post on MBAM forums, including info on where you downloaded it from etc. They are usually quick with replies.

    http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?act=idx

Let us know what they say.

I have to register for this and I`m already registered in too many forums.....they should make it easy on anyone who wants to report a fale positive and not make it difficult in any way, after all they benefit from it.

This file exists in my system about four months with no updates, with no previous alarms .

  8. Just delete it Fluff and make a new one. And don't forget to verify. :) I'm repeating myself, but it's so important, as is making sure the "Linux" Rescue CD works.

You have made the Rescue CD I hope, as you'll be snookered without it. Although it's called a Linux CD, it does boot a Windows computer.

Hi Dennis, how can you verify that you ineed booted from the recue disk and not from the HD? I know that even though you`ll set the BIOS to boot from a CD/DVD it will try to run from it, but if it fails it will automaticly run the OS from the HD (if operational) without any message or log. Any ideas?

    Thanks

  9. The winapp2.ini file is just fine to have. We have been in discussion for some time now about winapp2.ini. The large file of the winapp2.ini was slowing down the performance of CCleaner. So, I removed the actual file. It's probably best to just make a new winapp2.ini and put in the entries that you only need.

    Thanks Twisted Metal.

  10. Hi

I do not understand from this attached message if I should remove the existing ini file I have got from a few months ago or it is related to a new Winnapp2.ini mistakenly put by Twisted Metal.

    Any help? thanks.

  11. Using Macrium? No - though you cannot backup onto a partition which is itself part of the backup. So (free space permitting) you can back up C onto D, or D onto C. But not D onto D or C&D onto D.

You should be able to split the backup across multiple CD/DVDs ... did you limit the file size with the Advanced Settings ... or did it not get far enough to give you the chance to do that?

Thanks for your reply marmite .I didn`t limit the size w/ the advanced settings but I did get to the point where the program requested new fresh media and I did not think it would work if is splitted. On other thing, the PE didn`t make the rescue disk anouncing there is an error and it can not find the source (Windows installation elements) and this is after the program already found the windows disk and made the log text and the back up itself but as I mentioned before, was not able to produce the resque disk. At this point ,it looks easier and less time consuming to format and install a new OS.......

  12. Hi Fluff.

You can make a back up "Image" file with Macrium Reflect, which as like a photograph of your system drive. If you have problems you can't fix, you boot your PC with the Macrium "Rescue CD" and restore the Image.

    http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.asp

A few people on here use it, and I've actually restored a back up Image 3 times at least with no problems at all.

The important thing is to not take any shortcuts time-wise. VERIFY the Image after making it, and VERIFY it before restoring it if you're able.

Have a look at it, and then post here anything you're not sure of.

EDIT: What is an "Image" file.

Do I have to make an image on an external drive? I`ve tried to make one on a 4.5Gb DVD/CDmedia with not enough space,( so declared by the softwear, even though it was set to high compression).

  13. Full version of this suite available until 31st of December.

    Download is from here

    http://loadandhelp.com/home-en.html

This is from a reliable software producer and it installs and works well. (Given it a download and try myself)

It's a great offer for free, it includes

TextMaker 2008, the friendly, full-featured word processor

PlanMaker 2008, the reliable, full-featured spreadsheet

SoftMaker Presentations 2008, an alternative to Microsoft PowerPoint

BasicMaker 2008 (Windows only), a BASIC scripting language

It doesn't work with Microsoft docx but does with everything else, however discounted upgrades to 2010 version are

    available if wanted.

Thank you for your link Hazelnut ,the program worked very good in my system Win XP SP3 untill next reboot

somehow it couldn`t open files, uninstalled and installed again with same outcome, finally uninstalled.

  14. Specifically trying to add or remove items from the registry key HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

My account is an Administrator account but I am unable to add or remove entries from this registry key. If I login to Safe Mode then there is no problem, I can amend the entries in this key, but it's a problem if I'm installing a program that I want to run at startup. I have to login to safe Mode just to add the startup entry to that registry key. Looking around the internet it seems the problem may be one of "permissions" and me not having sufficient permissions to amend this key. I notice that the owner of the Run and Run Once keys show as "SYSTEM" rather than my user account name (unlike many of the other registry keys around Run and Run Once, with many of those my account name seems to be the owner). However, SYSTEM has the same rights as my user account and the Administrators group so I don't know what the problem is.

Does anyone know it there's something I need to tweak in order to be able to add or delete entries in those two registry keys? Not being able to do so unless I boot into safe Mode is more an annoyance than a problem but it's something I've never encountered before. Even using Autoruns I am unable to delete entries in the Run key.

My laptop is running Windows 7 if that makes a difference but the setup / ownership / permissions of those keys looks just the same as it does on my Vista PC and I can add to or remove entries from the Run key on my Vista PC without any problems.

I`ll say you have some firewall other than Windows that prevents changes to the registry. If yes, try to disable the firewall and try to make the changes you want. If it is not the firewall,it may be some other sort of security software that partly works/behaves like a firewall Iwould suggest you disable it as well, but not before you disconnect from the internet...

    Good luck
