  1. Ditto!!! Plus that plugin hasn't been approved by Mozilla yet, so it might as well be deemed experimental.

This add on was previously called AFOM and it is around at least a year, some reviewers were satisfied, some not

what I wonder is why is this add on not being approved yet.

  2. Yeah, me either. I was talking about Windows chkdsk. I've only gotten it to run in "read-only" mode.

Did you try to chkdsk with auslogics or defraggler to see if it works next boot? if did not work either ways maybe you have got some security application avoiding that operation.

  3. What settings are you using so that it doesn't run in read-only mode? I've tried running "chkdsk /f" and then hitting "Y", but it never seems to run at the next boot.

Never used Auslogics to chkdsk I always use WINDOWS chkdsk

  4. Do you occasionally run Check Disk ("chkdsk") in Windows though? Some say "never use it," but if you're defragging often it can't hurt to use it once per week, as there has to be a very good reason even Windows Disk Defragmenter won't run if ChkDsk is scheduled on the next boot.

I occasionally do run chdsk once in a while and it wasn`t scheduled when it happened.

  5. I have the "move system files to the beginning of the disk" option checked under Algorithms and run the "defrag & optimize" option once a week. I've never had a problem.

I have the same settings as yours + skip files larger than 50 MB, and this is the first time it happened after a year of use.

  6. Hi Eli.

I use Auslogics, mostly to compare the displayed results of Defraggler, and sometimes the other way around.

I've never had an issue, although I've only just noticed there's a newer version to mine, and I have never used the "Defrag and Optimize" setting. In fact I never use the "Optimize" setting with any defragger.

Not much more I can say really. It's always been OK for me (XP) with a basic defrag, and I can't find much regarding issues with a google search either.

Thank you Dennis I guess it was a sort of coincidence.I`m waiting for Auslogic`s support team regarding this matter.

  7. Hi

Yesterday I defragged + optimized the system with Auslogics disk defrag , after reboot ,system turned to a cold stone ,although able to reboot, nothing was operable, fortunately had the system restore on .

Question: Did any of you encounter such an incident ?

    Thanks

  8. I know I should post this in my cleanmem forum, But I need the feedback :-P

I am revamping how cleanmem handles the settings for v1.7.0. And in turn I am making a gui for the settings.

I have attached some screen shots of the first run of it.

How does it look so far?

    Shane

    It looks very good Shane.

  9. Thats what is hard to tell. Last night was playing Battlefield 2 Vietnam with some friends.

I gave them all a test exe that would run cleanmem when they hit the "T" key on their keyboard. As we where all in game I had them all run cleanmem during a firefight and none of them felt any hicups or anything. (They all now love cleanmem lol)

I have dual monitors, I had the mini monitor on the 2nd screen. While playing I ran cleanmem and 400 mb of memory where freed from the game and it didn't skip a beat. the game would slowly climb back up, but I have cleanmem running every 15 min on my system. (I also have 8gb of ram and my page file disabled)

They did not have their page file disabled, and we all have pretty high end gaming rigs. (So not sure how good of a test this would be vs older systems, but this is while playing a game after all)

CPU has never seem to be a problem as cleanmem needs VERY little.

Cleanmem opens, loads the txt files, loops through the process list and runs the api call on each or by how ever the user has their settings, records any logs if set, and closes itself. happens all very fast.

Perhaps it would be better to just have cleanmem set to run in a low cpu priority instead? Thoughts?

    Shane

I`d put is as an option, not by default, but then again you are going to get a lot of users questions....:-)

  10. I could do something like that.

May I ask why you want that feature? To be honest I am on a quad core 3.4ghz per core system, so CPU isn't really a problem. Do you notice a hit to the system when you have your cpu maxed? say on a single or dual core?

If so then this would be a good option.

Only problem would be that cleanmem runs from the task scheduler. In order for me to do advanced options like that I can let the user choose between using cleanmem by the task scheduler or using the mini monitor. Then I can build the cleanmem functions into the min monitor, and since it will be running all the time (If a user wants) then I can add advanced monitoring like CPU and more.

    Shane

I`m on 64x2 AMD dual core processor 3800+ and I personally don`t notice any change that I can tell about, after all it takes only about 1 second to complete the task. I`ll roll it back to you, the question is if you think that cleanmem hits the CPU on that scheduled operation so that it will justify the effort.

  11. I am working on a new version of the min monitor to include a key hook function, so you can set what key to hit on your keyboard and have cleanmem run. I use this for when I am in games.

Also adding a few other things.

Any changes you think I should make while I am at it?

    Shane

    HI Shane

A suggested change:Set a level of CPU activity to delay cleanmem cheduled task when CPU is very busy.

Thank you for your exellent product.

  12. Recently I installed Cleanmem (CM) version 1.65. Versions 1.6 have an additional gimmick: a small monitor that shows how much memory is claimed/is used by the different applications and Windows. This monitor clearly indicated that CM reduced/can reduce the amount of used/claimed memory significantly. This monitor makes the program - IMO - (much) better.

Isn`t the small monitor you are relating to, the clenmem log? If yes, are you saying that in version 1.65 this function is absent ?

  14. I happen to have both Filehippo Update Checker and Cnet TechTracker on my computer because i can't decide which is better, they both have their up and downs, like Cnet has more programs on this site thus they check for more software which i have notices, Filehippo has more of the popular ones and some of my it doesn't pick up. But i think as Filehippos cleaner and less buggy, and i don't have to be logged into Cnet which is very annoying right now.

Sow hat do you guys think? I have looked over the Internet for simulator topics and it goes both ways both having Pros and Cons, although i think more people like Filehippo, but is is older and more stable compared to the newer and less stable Cnet Techtracker.

What do you guys think, who do you use?Maybe even SUMo?

    Thanks

I use Sumo and I find it to be a very good program. A small reservation though:Should you decide to download SUMo, please ensure that you download the lite version (find it on the download page, it is the link with the letters "RK" crossed out ). The full version comes with a program called Relevant Knowledge, which is detected by most security software as spyware.other than that, no probs.Download here

  15. I asked this question about the security updates and guess what ? I finally made the update and my machine went into a deep freeze.... lucky me I made a system restore point + Erunt backup prior to updating...

It is beginning to look like these updates bring more trouble to my machine than the remote possibility of a security breach, considering the fact that I`m always running sandboxed.

  16. I had a power cut yesterday halfway through the downloading, so I've had to do it manually today, and I had what appeared to be an issue for the first time ever.

Immediately after the updates were installed, a new to me process, in fact two versions of it, appeared in Task Manager and one of them maxed out my CPU. I let it go for a half minute or so, and with no sign of stopping, and not knowing what it was, I killed it with task manger.

As it turns out, it's an MS process explained at this link ...

    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/davidnotario/archive/2005/04/27/412838.aspx

... and it's been around for a while apparently, but that's the first time I've been aware of it. And although I killed it, I'm still here, so no harm done.

    Thanks for the info Dennis.
