  1. I think Mr G or who ever runs this forum should make it mandatory for mods to be up to date when it comes OS's or computers in general. Imagine going to the Mozilla forums and the mods there were still using Firefox 1. It makes no sense. If some one wants to keep using obsolete software than thats their right but when you are a mod or in some other official capacity on a tech forum it makes no sense to be resistant to progress. It's a massive conflict of interest. Computers are all about progress. They are all about the future. They are the biggest thing in human progress in history. They are in every aspect of life now. You progress or die off.

You mean you adapt or die off. :P

I'm using Windows XP and Windows 7 on two different computers, and really, I'm fine with using either. If Microsoft kills XP, then I'll just move on to Windows 7. As long as I have a computer that does what I need to get done, I'll be happy.

  2. You can believe us when we say we've been working on this promotion for over 6 months. It's finally here and confirmed: we're giving you AVG AntiVirus 9 [1-PC, 1-Year], worth ?26.99, completely free, for ONE day only. This promo is exclusive to the Incisive Media V3.co.uk Software Store. The promotion will be live between midday CET (central European time) Tuesday 31st of August and midday CET 1st of September 2010.

Note, that although we have many thousands of AVG AntiVirus 9 [1-PC, 1-Year] codes to giveaway for free, and everyone can get a code, if the codes expire early, the giveaway promotion will also end early.

This offer is from the V3 Software Store, so if you want this offer, you should check their website during the specified times. I'm not sure if anyone uses AVG here, but I thought I'd post this, just in case.

  3. "Cameyo is a free, open-architecture application virtualization product. It combines best-of-breed application virtualization technology with simplicity."

From what I've read in a review of this program, and the information about it on its website, this seems like a very useful program. The best part about it is that it is free! :D I will definitely try my best to find a time to test this program out.

Also, I think I will post information about different programs in this format from now on. I think it looks neat and organized. :)

  4. If you get infected that much to need 7 sheilds then id be worried. Iv never even bothered with a AV on my laptop

It's just protection. Just because you have more shields on doesn't mean you get infected more often. I have all of my avast shields on, along with MBAM and Spyware Blaster, and I rarely get infected.

  5. I don't like domestic cats, or dogs. However, I'm a big fanatic of big cats like lions, tigers, leopards, jaguars, etc. The reason I don't like domestic cats and dogs is because I've been bitten quite a lot of times by both, and they both seem to hate me lol.

  6. Annoyed that they look for any excuse to stagnate. I know many people still using XP. In fact still using IE 6. Money is not their problem. Having to use their brain is the problem. Can't be bothered to learn anything. Sit in front of the computer hours at a time blankly staring at the monitor playing moron games. Some of them have been using computers for a decade or more and don't know any more now than they knew 10 years ago. When they have a problem they come crying to me. When I try to show them how to fix what are very basic issues they can't be bothered to watch and learn. They just want you to fix it so they can go back to be total jerk offs and play their idiotic games. I'm sure everybody here knows some one like that. Well MS needs to cut this dead weight loose. I have started to. It's time these people realize computers are a major part of life and society now. I would say not being able to use a computer is almost as bad as being illiterate today and it will become even more important as time goes on.

I play games that are a few years old. Are you saying that I'm an idiot just because I play a game that's old? Please! I don't need any more nonsense. I'm also not a jerk just because I play an older game every once in a while for nostalgia. For your last comment about illiteracy, would you say that people in third world countries that may know how to read and write but don't know how to use a computer are illiterate?

I certainly won't stay in XP forever, and I can always install Windows 7 on my newer computer, but your comments about the stupidity of people that stay on XP just don't add up.

  7. I was referring to Login 123's post in which he said he would keep using XP for 15 years until it was unworkable but I won't argue.Lets say it's four years. The price of computers especially used ones is so cheap if you stick with XP it's because you choose to not because of money. In four years anybody not living in a third world country can save up to buy a computer so the not having money thing is BS. People aren't switching because their lazy. That includes IT departments that don't want the hassle of switching so don't because MS keeps XP around. This hurts all of us in the long run. How? Because MS has to allocate resources to maintaining XP. Resources that could be used to develop better software. Instead it's wasted on keeping XP alive. The end result is the people not willing to change drag every body down with them. MS just needs to get a spine and cut the XP crowd loose. What are the XP users going to do in protest stop using computers? Not likely. Change OS's and go to Linux or Mac? That's a joke. These people can't be bothered to learn Windows 7 there is no way they will put the effort into learning a whole new platform. No the likely out come is if MS kills XP these heel daggers on XP will upgrade and that's that. Then MS can concentrate on moving forward instead of accommodating fossils.

To the part highlighted in bold: That's true.

But then, you say that they are lazy. <_< Some people aren't switching because they don't want to. It's their decision of what they want to do with their computer. There's no need to say that people are lazy just because they aren't willing to switch. Computers aren't the life of everyone, and for most people, their money isn't focused on getting the latest operating systems or the most high end computers. It's focused on things going on in their life. :)

Anyway, you seem kind of mad at the people that are sticking with XP.

  8. I have had my share of infections and Anti viruses.

Basically I have found a couple of free AV that are worth checking out. McAfee and Norton are not really that good for me since they are too resource hogs. Kaspersky is good but they give my the chills when the banshee shouts like hell. Avast and Nod 32 are ok. AVG, they used to be very very good but now they are not picking up that many viruses.

Right now I am running two, Panda's Cloud Antivirus ( Its fast, I do not need to update it and I'm always online )and Malwarebytes ( I use this for realtime protection ( Installs in Minutes and only uses a tiny bit of your resource )

I was impressed with Malwarebytes on how fast it handles things. The only thing that Malwarebytes is not good at are rootkits, that is where I use Cloud AV for.

And if your in really really deep I would suggest you download and use the following to clean up your system.

DrWeb Cure It ( Its slower but it really cleans and ensures your safe )

SuperAntiSpyware ( Sounds like a rouge AV but its not. Its not even an AV, it only removes spyware. Its better that Adaware and Spybot Search and destroy )

For Advance users using XP, I would advise ComboFix.

    Cheers.

Whoa, never, ever, use ComboFix without expert supervision. If something goes wrong with ComboFix, you're screwed unless you have an expert that is telling you what to do. Panda cloud is a great AV though; I just don't like it's weird interface.
