COMPLETELY LOST

Recommended Posts

Dear CCleaner users, I am completely new here - and a new CCleaner user- and as such COMPLETELY LOST. I have already read all the FAQs, but there was no such stupid questions as the following one of mine: WHICH BOXES DO I CHECK, IF I WANT TO STAR CLEANING WITH THE CCleaner? In the WINDOWS sections ; IE, WINDOWS EXPLORER, System, ADvanced? All of them? And what if they get all removed? What do I chack in the Applications section? You see? 'Completely lost' is an underestimation of my problem. Thank you very much for any hints!

Welcome to the forums Atnes :)

A good place to start exploring the possibilities of CCleaner is the Beginner's Guide, which you can find here: http://internetrotsyourbrain.com/ccleanerbeginnersguide/

Take a look at 'CCleaner information', which shows you what will be deleted if you check a certain box, and at 'Issues'. Just make sure you always make keep a backup of the deleted registry items found by the issues scanner.

Dear Sputnik,

Thank you very much for your help - I'll try the site you suggested and see if I can get any smarter ;) I only hope that I didn't already lose some files that I may need

I recommend that you don't tick anything in the Advanced section until you become more familiar with the program.

Btw, welcome to the forum. :)

Stick around, it's the best way to learn.

You are right, Woody, I won't touch the Advanced section before I know more, thanks!

Welcome to the forum. The guys on here know a whopping lot about computers, and will not steer you wrong. CCleaner is a great program, and quite safe but powerful.

For my part, may I suggest that you do not tinker with the registry until you are very sure of yourself. The option that does that is the little blue cube at the top left of the splash screen. Looks like a monochromatic Rubik's cube exploding.

The CCleaner SLIM version is always released a bit after any new version; when it is it will be HERE :-)

Pssssst: ... It isn't really a cloud. Its a bunch of big, giant servers.

Thanks for your suggestion! I activated the CCleaner yedsterday - not all of it, of course - and nit works just great! I think it is an ewxcellent tool, extremely user-friendly, too. And the Beginner's Guide (thanks, Sputnik, to tell me about it) at http://internetrotsyourbrain.com/ccleanerb...g%20started.htm

is superb. Although detailed enough in description, it is still very concise. It is also very clear and systematic, as if especially written/designed for laypeople like me  . Bravo to the author(s) of this guide!

Thanks, I wrote it so everyone could understand it. I do agree it has a lot of information, but is lacking... I originally wrote the guide to just to show how people how to us CCleaner, but people requested that more info be added, so I have been building it up ever since.

There is more info I can add, I have plans of doing it. I have been sick lately and haven't done much besides work, lay on the couch, and watch tv. The only thing I can see is, it seems to me it's falling away from being a Beginner's Guide, to the Complete Guide. :)

Hopefully, I will have it all complete this week, or maybe this weekend.

Thank you very much for your reply. I hope you will be completely well soon - my suggestion in this regard: do not start to work too hard before that, it may be harmful to your health! Just keep warding the couch and watching the telly. And then, once you are OK again, I really am looking forward to the completed guide. And I am sure I am not the only one!! ?

Take care. Atnes

The guide is great. If you write a gazillion words, you'll never be able to answer all the questions there may be, but bless you for trying. Stay on the couch amigo. Chicken soup and orange juice. Get well.

Once again a reason for the beginners guide to be linked to (or included) within CCleaner.

Yes, agreed. This is long over due.

Get well soon TM.

I suggested it in the suggestions thread a few months back. Really does need adding though, we're getting several threads a week that are answered with 'Have a read of the beginners guide'
