Moderators hazelnut Posted October 13, 2020 Moderators Share Posted October 13, 2020 File permissions can get mixed up sometimes. We'll never know how it happened. It is not uncommon. noend7
Excuse please if I'm a bit dense, but... Permissions for what file(s)? Where are these permissions accessed? What and who needs to be permitted there? TIA Edited October 13, 2020 by noend7
Moderators hazelnut Posted October 13, 2020 Moderators Share Posted October 13, 2020 File permissions are what says who can do what with a file. What access rights they have with files, and the permissions they have with them. That piece of software (Windows Repair) puts the file permissions that your user account has screwed up back into order. You can just select to do only that using the tool as shown in that video I linked to. Any moresuggestions? TIA It's tricky when the machine is not in front of you Because CC works when you run it from a new user it's obviously something to do with the user account that you have now. One way would be to copy your user profile documents to your new user. EDIT.. Did you use a new download of CC to test it with? noend7
Thanks. And where pray tell do I find my "...user profile documents..."? TIA
Moderators hazelnut Posted October 14, 2020 Moderators Share Posted October 14, 2020 This video tells you. Note to only move things over to the new account that you need. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LsnAQvMKSE I would hope that you have some kind of system image in place before doing this, and checked that the new user account you made is working okay. noend7
Thanks for the pointer. Might I ask how the permissions for all of the files on my computer are relevant to running a single program? I would think that only the permissions for the files installed by CC would be relevant. And if my working user profile is corrupted then wouldn't copying it simply transfer the corruption to the "new" user? TIA
Moderators hazelnut Posted October 14, 2020 Moderators Share Posted October 14, 2020 I don't know what happened to your machine, all I know is what you tell me, that is CC will work with a new profile and not the one you have now. You are copying your files and user docs over not yourself (if you know what I mean) I understand if you feel it is too big of a jump for you to want to take. noend7
Hazelnut... I've been working with compuers since I was in graduate school, in 1959, so please don't patronize me. And you did not answer any of the Qs I asked you. "You are copying your files and user docs over not yourself (if you know what I mean)" No I don't know what you mean!, as the sentence makes no sense. Now, if you can tell me what in my profile, other than the (now presumably repaired) permissions, might be messing up CC I'd really appreciate it. Otherwise, the program simply isn't worth any aditional effort, Since Glary Utilities provies a reasonable replacement. TIA

TIA I can assure you that I have in no way patronised you, I have done everything I could to try and help you. When you asked the questions you did above I assumed that it was because your knowledge of computers was not as good as you say it is. The video I linked to did explain things quite well. I will leave it to you now.
