Question about secure deletion

This is probably a dumb question, but if you use the secure deletion everytime you use CCleaner, will it in anyway add useless clutter to your hard drive? Or does it overwrite files with data that's already on the hard drive? Any negatove consequences to secure file deletion??? Thanks

I'll answer this one. The only negative side-effect would be if you accidently deleted something important. Once the file is shredded there's slim to any chances you'd be able to recover it.

For the secure deletion of sensitive files use at least more tham 3 passes.

 

Secure deletion doesn?t actually overwrite the slack-space of those remaining clusters that were once designated to the file you just have ersased.

Other than the one Andavari mentioned, the only drawback of using CCleaner's secure delete is that the deletion process takes substantially longer to finish. If running CCleaner normally takes 4 seconds, with secure delete enabled, it may take 12 seconds.

 

However, secure delete won't hurt anything, so speed is the main drawback.
