chutalotr
Hi I was notified that there was a new version of ccleaner and invited to download the new version. Up until recently there was a choice of download sites - but now you hvae to use filehippo. The problem with this is that you have to download a download manager. Despite unchecking all the boxes I landed up with some other software on my machine - a change to my default seach engine - a toolbar I didn't want on my browser and my home page being changed. Can the option to download from piriform be re-instated? Ray
Alan_B
The only choice I see is Piriform. I have checked both https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download and https://www.piriform.com/download What are you using which is redirecting you to FileHippo ? login123
Something wrong here. Are you are using some sort of update checker to keep your software up to date?If so, maybe (must be??) that app controlled your update. If that is the problem, see if you can disable it ...unless you just don't want to. I tried a bunch or ways to duplicate the problem, couldn't make it happen here on Win xp. I just downloaded the latest CCleaner free from both Piriform and Filehippo. All the links at the Piriform CCleaner page go to a Piriform site. All the links within The CCleaner app go to a Piriform site.No download manager was required by Filehippo. Unchecked the google boxes when necessary, no google installed. Downloaded & installed ver 4.06 free. Check for updates within version ver 4.06 goes to a Piriform page.Updated normally, all OK. Checked for new versions using CCleaner Pro. Updated normally, all OK. Not sure what server it used, but all OK. The CCleaner SLIM version is always released a bit after any new version; when it is it will be HERE :-) Pssssst: ... It isn't really a cloud. Its a bunch of big, giant servers. Moderators Andavari Posted December 4, 2013 Moderators Share Posted December 4, 2013 Probably is possibly similar to another topic from the other day?
login123
Good catch, that's probably it. In the upper right corner of that Filehippo page is an offer to "Download our FREE Update Checkerand scan your PC for the latest software updates!". I didn't install it. Like Alan I wonder what notified the OP about a new update. I never set anything to automatically check for updates so would not know if there is such an option. Anyway chutalodr chudalodr shootaloader the OP can maybe take advantage of the advice given in your link. chutalotr
Hi When I loaded ccleaner - it told me that a new version is available.Clicked on the link which took me to the piriform website. Just tried it again and it gave me a choice of three - when I posted the query it only showed filehippo. Problem solved.
login123
Good that it is solved. Did you get rid of that junk you didn't want? If not, there are some junkware removers in post number 7 by eL_PuSHeR here: http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=39936 I've never used them, maybe other members have more knowledge.
