Shutdown After Defrag (Windows 8)

Hello,

I'm having an issue in Windows 8.1 64-Bit with the Shutdown After Defrag Feature.

It doesn't matter if I choose Quick Defrag, or Standard, but once the Defragging is Complete, I get the Warning Message:

"There are other users logged in.

While shutting down, those users will lose their unsaved data.

Shutdown anyway | Cancel"

I am the only user signed in, and created on this computer, so this warning message is completely unnecessary, and negates the point of having a Shutdown After Defrag feature, when I have to choose to Shutdown anyway afterwards.

I have also noticed this issue on Windows 8 64-Bit, and am not sure if this is just a Windows 8(.1) bug, or if other Windows OS's are having this issue as well.

I have attached a screenshot with the above information for further assistance/reference.

I enjoy Defraggler much more than the other competition (namely Auslogics Defrag Free and MyDefrag), but I may have to switch, as I have tested them, and both have working Shutdown After Defrag features, even on Windows 8(.1).

Thank you for the excellent software, and hopeful fix, Piriform.

although you may not have more than one user, do you have any network resources that are shared out?

in other words, is your PC on a network with printers, attached storage devices, wireless tablets/smart phones etc ?

Backup now & backup often.

I tried this on my machine last night and got the same result. I am the sole user on this machine and have no shared devices. Windows 8 OEM 64 bit v 6.2.9200 - Defraggler v 2.16.809.

I'm part of a HomeGroup in my home, but I don't see why that would affect the ability to shutdown, as this issue never presented itself until I installed Windows 8, and now currently 8.1. Even while I was still connected to the HomeGroup on Windows 7, Defraggler would still Shutdown After Defrag without a hitch.

I should also add I am using Defraggler v 2.16.809 (64-bit) as well, just as Derek891.

Windows 8 introduces a host of issues,

including the fact that you MUST have UAC enabled for applications to work properly,

e.g. Windows Explorer can still select Macrium Reflect backup files, but the right click context menu can no longer allow you to mount/explore.

I guess the same applies to 8.1

Hi Idioblast, I am facing the same problem as you. Just wondering if you have a solution to the problem already?

Hey there Art, unfortunately, no, I haven't found a solution, (short of unfortunately reinstalling Auslogic's Free Defrag - just so I can shutdown after defrag temporarily) but hazelnut's post is very exciting if it's true, and I will switch back in a heartbeat, as Defraggler just offers so much more than the competition, especially for free, and doesn't try to push more unneeded software on you like Auslogic does.

Thank you again everyone.
