Blank Screen On Boot

LEEnoble

Recommended Posts

I changed the settings in msconfig to minimal boot. Now when I boot up the PC I get the Windows XP booting screen then it just goes blank - nothing on the screen. How do I fix this so I can see the screen again?

I'm on a different PC writing this. Thanks. :(

Is explorer.exe running? If not try starting it by going in the process manager and going to file>Run(new task)

Or try pressing F5 untill you get to the safe mode screen. See if you can boot to regular safe mode and change the setting.

i dont understand how explorer.exe would be running since he doesnt get to the Windows Login screen(winlogin.exe calls explorer.exe)

@LEEnoble: try booting into safe mode and change the boot settings back to the way they were.

btw:have you used BootSkin or StyleXP to change your boot screen?

I have no clue whats wrong with your pc. Ill see what I can find.

Edit:

At least with a boot disc you could start system restore through dos.

It don't let me get into Safe Mode now or before this problem. Thats how this happened, me trying to find a way into safe mode.

I've not changed the boot skin with any type of program.

iirc, you press f1 a lot of times and a menu appears that lets you chose how to boot. you have to do this before the Windows booting screen shows up.

it's diffrent on some computers. i just guessed it was f1 cause i pressed all the f keys while i was trying to get in safe mode to replace the uxtheme.dll file(didn't work but its fixed).

If you are trying to help someone with a problem on their computer, it's not really a good idea just to guess the solution.

A good idea would be to admit that it was just a guess.

F1 and Tab generally go into the BIOS setup.
