unable to restore .reg files created by CCleaner

I am unable to rstore .reg files crated by CCleaner due to my permissions in windows are set in regedit to Trusted Installer and no other account even admin have write permissions the only account that has full permissin is the trusted installer , I am unable to gain full permission in any account admin or any user account even if logged in as admin???

DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF.

Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark)

ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T.

This is a security feature. Unlike *nix, admins can't do anything they like (sudo rm -rf / anyone ?). Critical system files and Registry keys are protected even from admins. This prevents malware from modifying them if it infected an admin account.

I am unable to retore the reg file even from regedit admin does not have write permission and cannot change permissions for regedit or take ownership of regedit ?? have tryed a few ways on the web to restore security permissions to default settings but it does not complete with errors?? could this be caused by norton internet security?? I lost a drive that has backups on due to CCleaner deleting the refrence to the drive it dissappeared in my computer did a repartition to restore the drive and renamed it to its original drive name but windows backup says the drive is disconnected due to the missing reg setting that were deleted by CC

continuing can access regedit but attempt to import say I do not have permission could this be an windows 7 update if so I could remove the update to regain permissins I was able to restore reg files created by CC about a month ago but now unable to do so??

I suggest that when you cleaned the registry,

some (or all) of it allowed read access, hence reg backups were created

(assuming of course that the backups are not zero length).

NB many different registry cleaners will "delete" a registry key,

but fail to notice and report an error (no-access or write protected).

 

Now that you are trying to restore, you do not have access so it fails.

Perhaps Windows 7 update is the cause - or maybe Norton is protecting its corner of the registry.

 

If the registry keys are protected from deletion by a virus,

they should certainly be protected against deletion by CCleaner.

Else, you can try using Windows Recovery Environment (aka WinRE).

Reboot, and before the Windows logo and "Starting Windows..." text, hit the F8 key on your keyboard (the time span in which F8 is detected is very short so you'll need to hit it a lot).

This will launch the Advanced Boot Options.

Select "Repair your computer" and hit Enter. Then select "Startup Repair". It might not work, but it's worth a try.

have tried all of the above and still cannot get or change permisions have set full permission for me as admin but the cc.reg files still return errors have looked at the files and they are not 0 byte the drive info is there I am about to the point of giving up

Why do you want to merge the backup ? If it is related to only one program, the associated keys could, maybe, be merged without problems.

but the problem is regedit will not allow import from CC or any other way TrustedInstaller is the only (user) that has full perissions for write and permissins changed or my admin user will not change permissions in the c: windows dir
