Cannot restore registry backup

Recommended Posts

Hi..

Did you reformat and re-install Win 7 in between saving the backup and trying to restore the backup ?

If you create a copy of the backup *.reg file, and rename it as *.txt, you can attach *.txt to your reply,

and that would give a clue upon what part of the registry has the problem.

No reg files are created after all was reinstalled..

It could be issue with "win 7 admin rights" but I am admin.. logged in as XXXXX/admin

I did not try in safe mode or by "taking ownership"...

I have 4 of them and none can be restored

IS not the same thing as run a Admin

You need to use UAC and accept running with admin privilages

try to run

regedit.exe and do file import

ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION

DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF.

Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark)

ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T.

Well UAC is killed as soon as I installed Win 7

I can restore in Safe Mode..

I am running with admin privileges..

Import in regedit gives same error..

Only way to avoid is to "take ownership"
