tomcatonnet99
Win Cleaner memory OPtimiser by business logic corporation <wincleaner.com> try this fantastic mem optimiser, even works with 248MB or lower ram with remarkable results, without slowing you down as it runs on very frugal resources, in the background... would advise you set it up to optimise at program start but not to auto load at system start further, just another tip worth implementing : in regedit (if youre comfy with it) go to run, type regedit and go to... HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\CURRENT CONTROL SET\SESSION MANAGER\MEMOMRY MANAGEMENT\PREFETCH PARAMETERS\ENABLE PREFETCHER ( double click this and click on decimal and then enter 5 , thats it press enter and get out of regedit all together ... Moderators Andavari Posted December 27, 2007 Moderators Share Posted December 27, 2007 No offense but memory optimizing software and prefetch hacks don't do much. They can actually cause slowdowns.
CeeCee
...memory optimizing software and prefetch hacks don't do much. I agree, especially those prefetch registry "tweaks". They don't do a s*it. I have tried those tweaks back in the day, but ended up to disabling prefetching completely. Benefit of prefetching is really minimal (IMO). Same applies to connection optimizers also. I tried some "optimizer" with my previous 98SE machine and connection came terrible slow. This is also just my opinion, basing to my own experiences. JDPower
further, just another tip worth implementing : in regedit (if youre comfy with it) go to run, type regedit and go to... That tweak just disables prefetch - Windows only recognises a value between 0-3 (0 = Disabled, 1 = Application Launch Prefetch, 2 = Boot Prefetch, 3 = Prefetch All)
CeeCee
That tweak just disables prefetch - Windows only recognises a value between 0-3 (0 = Disabled, 1 = Application Launch Prefetch, 2 = Boot Prefetch, 3 = Prefetch All) I was about to say the same thing in my earlier message. If you think a little, setting the value to 5 makes no sense, since there's only values 0-3 to play with. I don't think, that Windows really recognize values above that. Strange, I'm using the portable version and only uses about 25Mb. More than Foxit but not exactly a resource hog, besides I would expect that as it has more functions. I've been using it for a few days now and no problems yet. Might be worth a second look
