Win Cleaner memory OPtimiser by business logic corporation <wincleaner.com> try this fantastic mem optimiser, even works with 248MB or lower ram with remarkable results, without slowing you down as it runs on very frugal resources, in the background... would advise you set it up to optimise at program start but not to auto load at system start

further, just another tip worth implementing : in regedit (if youre comfy with it) go to run, type regedit and go to...

HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\CURRENT CONTROL SET\SESSION MANAGER\MEMOMRY MANAGEMENT\PREFETCH PARAMETERS\ENABLE PREFETCHER ( double click this and click on decimal and then enter 5 , thats it press enter and get out of regedit all together ...

...memory optimizing software and prefetch hacks don't do much.

I agree, especially those prefetch registry "tweaks". They don't do a s*it. I have tried those tweaks back in the day, but ended up to disabling prefetching completely. Benefit of prefetching is really minimal (IMO).

Same applies to connection optimizers also. I tried some "optimizer" with my previous 98SE machine and connection came terrible slow. This is also just my opinion, basing to my own experiences.

That tweak just disables prefetch - Windows only recognises a value between 0-3 (0 = Disabled, 1 = Application Launch Prefetch, 2 = Boot Prefetch, 3 = Prefetch All)

I was about to say the same thing in my earlier message. If you think a little, setting the value to 5 makes no sense, since there's only values 0-3 to play with. I don't think, that Windows really recognize values above that.

Wizmo: http://www.grc.com/wizmo/wizmo.htm

Wizmo is a multipurpose miscellaneous Windows utility that provides an array of single-click functions that are missing from Windows. Triggered by a single mouse click, it can do things like power down your system's displays, activate your screen saver, change or mute the audio volume, restart, reboot, or shutdown your system, and much more.

whats a good freeware Photo calender software, with maximum amount of features and yet not too much of a memory cruncher..... and most importantly it shouldn't be a .NET framework dependant ( one that just does its job in winxp environment )

You could try Photo Print Calender, it's listed in this post.

The system requirements for it have no mentioning of needing .NET Framework.

Free PDF viewer with some basic editing abilities (already found it useful for filling in forms), has a portable version too:

* Mark-up pages with text and objects

* Type directly on any PDF page, not just Adobe enabled forms documents - in Typewriter mode.

* Export PDF pages or entire files to any one of the supported Image formats including BMP, JPEG, TIFF, PNG and many more ...

* Extract text from a PDF page/File

* Make your navigation of large or complex PDF files both simple and enjoyable with the extended functionality of our 'Loupe' and the 'Pan' Window tools

* Fill and Save Adobe Forms to disk, email or 'post' !

* Full Javascript Engine included

* Updated JPEG2000 Compression support - improving speed.

* Plug-Ins for both MS IE or Firefox Browser's included

* Integrate seamlessly with your favourite translation software to translate text on the 'fly' - including : ABBYY Lingvo 12, Translate It!, Lingoes.

* Includes comprehensive Help file and PDF Manual - no extra downloads required to add features etc.

And many more features such as Rotate and 'Save', Email files etc ...

I tried that about a month ago. Wasn't happy with a PDF app that used 150 MB of RAM. It was a major resource hog. Nice features though.

Strange, I'm using the portable version and only uses about 25Mb. More than Foxit but not exactly a resource hog, besides I would expect that as it has more functions. I've been using it for a few days now and no problems yet.

Might be worth a second look ;)
