  1. Thanks a lot. I went ahead and followed your advice. Actually, version 1.2 is now installed and no problem. The other simply disappeared. Thanks again; sure wish I was that computer wise. That is why this board is such a good thing.
  2. Hello, all. Yesterday I installed Better Privacy as an add-on in Firefox. Today I checked on my add-ons and see the above named program also in the add on area. I do not remember adding this on. Anyway, when I click on it, it says: not compatible with Firefox 3.5.6. So I figure I could just uninstall it but the uninstall area is grayed out. Can't find this anywhere else on the computer. I guess I am asking 1) where did it come from? 2) Is it OK to just leave it alone and not worry about it. Hope this is clear. Appreciate any comments/suggestions you might have. Have a great Holiday Season. Ed
  3. Agree with viennas. I never read it before, but do now. Very nice.
  4. Thanks. I did go into Firefox and check the ask me each time box. Don't know show the other one got checked.... A senior moment?? Anyway, probably better to ask me each time I download something... LOL Thanks again.
  5. OK. STOP THE MUSIC. I finally had enough brains to go into My Documents and noticed a folder that said Downloads. Opened it and voila, there were 5 downloads (since I tried 5 times) of the new CC. Ran one of them and everything is OK. This never happened before, as I said, always showed up on the desk top. I use Firefox Mozilla, as I said earlier. At any rate, I will know from now on where to go. Thanks for your time and trouble. I appreciate it.
  6. BTW, using Search I cannot seem to find anything exe or hippofile.... So, can't run anything. I am stumped as I have been using Firefox for a while and have updated CC during that time with no problems.... Normally just appears on the desk top setup ccsexe.....
  7. Hi. I am using Firefox - the latest version.
  8. No luck. Followed your inx; clicked on the download; it asked if I wanted to Save the File, I said yes - then it downloaded somewhere?? Never asked where I wanted to save....
  9. OK, what am I doing wrong? I have been using CCleaner for a couple of years, love it. Faithfully update it when I get the e-mails, etc. Well, this latest update, I go ahead and download it to Save, as usual, but nothing appears on the desktop and I cannot fine the Saved file anywhere, so I cannot update this. Should I remove CCleaner completely and then re-install it, using the new 2.20.520 (which seems to be 2.22.968 by now)? Or am I making some simple mistake here..... Just when I think I get a little computer savvy, sigh.....
  10. Thank you. I had wondered about doing that. So far I have just ignored the update message. LOL Is it really that simple? Just uninstall the present Windows Messenger and then install the new one? I get a little nervous around computers, so.... If it is as simple as that, though, I think I can do it.
  11. Thank you; I will give it a try.
  12. Thank you very much. I was suspicious of this software, especially because it is not talked about on neither this forum, PC World or Kim Kamando. I will steer clear of it.
  13. Hello. Is anyone else having trouble installing this? I get it 89% installed and then it starts 'rolling back'; after it is all rolled back I get a note that the installation was aborted error code 0x80004004. Goggling this I get a notice that the Registry may be out of whack. Ran CCleaner, Malwarebytes, Windows Defender, Avast - no change. There is one site that says I should download Regcure, but I cannot see that it will do any more than CCleaner does and I am reluctant to download it. Any ideas? Thanks a lot. (I do not necessarily need this, but the notice pops up everytime I open up the computer and it gets annoying, so I thought I would shut up the notice by installing it... LOL)

I am ashamed to say that I took the easy way out and un-installed McAfee and installed Avast Home Edition 4.8. Tried to uninstall SP3, couldn't and thought I better not play around too much. LOL Hopefully I am in for a pleasant use now. Thank you all for your advice/help.

    IE 8

Forgot to ask - of course - since Firefox 3 Mozilla is my default browser now, will I experience any problems with this uninstall of IE8? I am wondering if IE7 will automatically become the default?? If you know, would appreciate an answer. Thanks.

Thanks, Larry. I am going to take a deep breath and try to accomplish this. I am still a little afraid of computers - seem a deep, dark secret... LOL

    IE 8

Well, found out I could not uninstall IE8 and they (Microsoft) don't even want to put it back to 7 or 6. So... I downloaded Firefox 3 Mozilla as my default browser and the McAfee Security Sige bar appeared immediately. The icon on the desktop and tool bar still only give me a blank page but I will wait a couple of days to see if the miraculously return (like they miraculously disappeared). In the meantime I am check out anti-virus to replace this darn McAfee....

Well, you sure have that right!! Prices are sky high compared to the States, that is what makes shopping such an easy thing to do... Over the internet or actually in the States. I will be going back to the Midwest next May for the first time in 7 years and I was amazed at the rigamarole due to the 9/11 disaster. Anyway, Kenny, I have decided that I will stick with IE8 and uninstall all the McAfee stuff - seems like they are just always behind in updating their programs to be compatible with others... Thanks for the suggestions and I will check out the sites.

    IE 8

Well, back again. My McAfee Security Site Advisor suddenly stopped working and, although the virus, etc. are apparently operating according to the Security Center, when I click the icon on the desktop (or the one on the toolbar at the bottom) only a blank screen shows up. Just got off chat with McAfee Customer Service and they told me to uninstall IE8 and IE7 would automatically come back and McAfee would work fine. Well, two things - first, I can't seem to find what to do to uninstall IE8 - doesn't seem to show on add/remove programs in my computer. Any help here would be appreciated. And, secondly, since this McAfee seems to have found with Malwarebytes and now with IE8, maybe I would be better off just uninstalling McAfee and getting a different virus program. And suggestions on a good one? Thanks for any help?opinions. Seems like I just think everything is going smoothly and then, bang. LOL

Well, come on back one of these springtimes. Been a lot of changes in those 16 years, but still a tremendous amount of cherry trees...

Never mind. I figured it out from my Absolute Beginner's Guide to Computer Basics. Sorry. Guess everything changed when I did the Restart Internet Explorer.

    IE 8

Has anyone had any problems after installing this? I did; every time I went to My Favorites, IE decided it had to close down. I solved that (I think) by going through the Reset Internet Explorer procedure. Now I notice that the print on the sites seems smaller or thinner than before. Is there any way to change that?? Thanks.
  23. Saw on the Malabytes site that McAfee was no longer interfering with the download of Anti-Malware, so I gave it a whirl. And it went through smooth as silk. So I have the trial version on my computer now; plan to purchase the full version in a few days... Glad this worked out.
  24. Hey, thanks for the site. I signed up to view daily. Terrific site.
  25. I was shocked to see that there are two people in the US with my name....
